We’ve opened the first of our twelve scrappy, scruffy little campsites sitting on just under four acres, a hair outside Tucumcari city limits. You’ll find star-splashed skies overhead, and the Route 66 glow of Tucumcari is just a hop and a skip down the road. Small-town convenience is literally a stone’s throw away — we’ve even got a fancy grocery store where they sell those little boxes of cheese from the world-famous Tucumcari Mountain Cheese Factory. Isn’t that right, Tex?

You’ll have access to a bathroom and shower — and if you ask real nice (and we remembered to pay the gas bill), we even have hot water.
If you’re tired of smelling like bug spray, we’ve got a few rooms in the rock house you can rent — assuming some other campers or one of those traveling nurses haven’t already taken them. Isn’t that right, Tex?

We’ve got all the features you’d expect from a primitive campground, plus a few extras — like a place to build your fire (as long as there’s no burn ban in effect). Please check with us before lighting a fire, ’cause when fires happen and they shouldn’t, they can get scary real fast.
And we will throw you under the bus — not that we’d have to, since the firefighters can always tell where it started. The wind pushes the fire away from your campsite, leaving a burn pattern like a big arrow pointing right back at you. If you don’t believe me, just ask Mr. Williams, who had to explain to his wife why he couldn’t come home from his hunting trip just yet.

I was really happy to find this newly established Hipcamp in Tucumcari, New Mexico. "Tex and Edna" are awesome hosts who are very experienced in hospitality. They greeted me upon arrival and during the simple check-in they were enthusiastic; turns out I was their first hip-camper! So, that was cool!
After chatting for a moment, Tex led me and my van to a nice camp with wrought iron chairs and table and a clay fire place. A full indoor restroom and shower with hot water tied the entire experience together, making it an awesome value for an overnight stay.
This location is just off Interstate 40 on the outskirts of Tucumcari. Restaurants and gas, etc., are available nearby, even within walking distance.
Let me finish by offering Tex and Edna my best wishes for success with your new Hipcamp! I'll be back soon!

Art City is a unique, AWESOME experience!!! Pedingo, the site manager/artist, was extremely helpful in helping us get our RV set up. We had an extra special experience as it snowed one night that we were there, the entire site was a magical white wonderland. Since it was a bit chilly outside, sitting in the sauna was a nice treat. If you plan to RV there you might want to bring extra long hoses and electrical cords, but if you don’t have them they might be able to help out with those. I would definitely recommend this site and plan on returning some day

You have to see it to believe it. Art City is such a joy to visit. I kept having to book more nights because I just couldn't leave that hot tub under the stars. The art installations that are spaced out all over the property are lit up so gorgeous at night. Bonus points because some of the art you can actually climb onto!!!! The bathrooms are soooo nice, full flush toilets and you will love the art in the bathrooms. Shower area and kitchen are both beautifully designed and functional. Cannot recommended this place more!!!!

Art City is a fun place to stay and I highly recommend it for anyone who’ll be in the Tucumcari area. We only stayed one night but could have easily stayed a few. The art is crazy fun and is perfect for anyone who likes to explore outdoors. The amenities are top notch for a camp and the hosts are super nice and helpful. This place is absolutely phenomenal. The art is well displayed and illuminated for two hours after dark or till batteries run low. The hot tub and sauna are a must do. Very clean environment but the weeds are pretty high. upon entry it states watch out for snakes but we did not see any. We did see several wild turkeys wandering around in the morning. The hostess very accommodating and showed the ropes of the property well. The art has all been displayed at burning man and is a must see.

This is such a great location. I camped here during a move across country, so I only walked around for a bit in the evening. This would be a great place to linger for a few days, and I plan to be back.
