Tranquility on the Bay (Adults)

3 sites · RVs, Tents1 acre · Quyon, QC
There's something that just makes you feel good being here. I looked at many properties before deciding on this one because "it just felt right". This flat terrain is rich in history. Pontiac Bay was fundamental in the logging era and held the local Trading post. The bay is nestled between Luskville Falls and Fort Coulonge Falls. As you drive here you will begin to feel a sense of calm within you as you glance out your right window to see the Gatineau Hills and to your left, you will see that you're winding your way along the Ottawa River. Or, if you decide to use the ferry crossing from Fitzroy Harbour on the Ontario side we're only 8 minutes from there. I have an old, but river-worthy canoe you may borrow but feel free to bring your own canoe, kayak, paddleboat or SUP to explore the land and inlets around the bay. Both sites have access to the boat launch. No toilet facilities at property so bring your own camping toilet or self-contained RV. P.S. You might want to stop in the village for the best french fries in all of the Outaouais region. You'll see the big red chip truck across from Marcotte's, the gas station as you leave the ferry terminal, if you're coming from Fitzroy Harbour. And yes, they make pulled pork poutine, pogos, burgers and zucchini sticks. If you're here on the weekend you may also want to check out the Bristol Farmer's market every Saturday from Noon to 3pm on the public beach in Norway Bay, only 20 minutes away. It's a lovely quaint community mixed with old and new unique cottages so you'll definitely want to take a drive around. And you'll surely want to visit the Vineyard and Vintage Car Museum, a 2-minute drive from here if you enjoy wine and cars (but not at the same time lol...unless the keys AREN'T in the ignition ha!). Google Domaine de Pontiac Village for hours and more information or message me. Visit Parc des Chutes in Fort Coulonge for a view of the waterfalls, zip lining over the gorge and obstacle courses. (The view of the gorge is breathtaking!) Want to try whitewater rafting for an exhilarating rush? Try Esprit or Horizon X, both about 40 minutes north. How about Go Karting? visit lecircuitquyon dot com .

large South facing Beach Campsite

1 site · RV, Tent5 acres · Gracefield, QC
Up to 5 RVs or Tents. Perfect for large groups. This is a large private site on a private sandy beach. I purchased this vast domain in 2001 - it has a sandy lake, beautiful prairies, and forests, I fell in love. I named it Solisterra which is Latin for the Sun and the Earth. Stars here are stunning, forget 4 start hotels, this land has millions of stars. The plants and wildlife are abundant, all summer long there are berries and plants to be picked from wild strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, sweet fern, wintergreen, mushrooms, and much more. Visit my website to see what I have done with the place. Learn more about this land: Located only an hour outside of Ottawa, camp directly on the lake! Pitch your tent on this beautiful field and jump in the lake or have a nice glass of wine in the screened-in gazebo. The double outhouse means there is no waiting to go. There is a lovely campfire in the middle of the field, which means your group can set up in a circle. Fits up to 5 tents or RVs. There is a sand beach directly on the site PLEASE NOTE, if you are bringing more than 1 tent or RV/trailer, PLEASE ADD IT AS AN EXTRA AT THE TIME OF BOOKING. There is an extra fee for each additional tent + RV/trailer (up to 5 tents or RVs/trailers). Bring your bicycles, because this site is directly on the bike path " La Véloroute des Draveurs". We also have our own hiking trails for your enjoyment. Close to grocery stores and gas stations for all your camping needs. Please note we do not supply firewood.

Lakeside camping near Gatineau with campfires guide

Overview

Part of Canada’s National Capital Region, Gatineau is beloved for its museums, beer, and outdoor opportunities. The area’s renowned for its hiking trails, ranging from beginner jaunts to challenging, multi-day treks. Come winter, many of these routes are transformed into groomed snowshoeing and cross-country skiing paths. Just two hours from Montreal, Gatineau and the surrounding region provide conventional camping sites, RV options, canoe camping, four-season tents, yurts, and cabins to suit every adventure level.

When to go

Summer is undeniably the most popular time to explore in and around Gatineau Park, the second-most visited park in Canada. Reservations around Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day (a public holiday in Quebec celebrated June 24) and Canada Day tend to book up quickly. Early autumn excursions provide the best combination of pleasant weather and low traffic but there is one exception—expect dense weekend crowds in mid-October, when fall colours are at their best.

Know before you go

  • If you want to fish in Quebec, you’ll need a license. Fortunately, they’re inexpensive and easy to obtain.
  • You can buy everything from kayaks to backpack-friendly doggy dishes at Atmosphere in Gatineau.
  • If your idea of essential supplies includes craft beer, check out Broue Ha Ha. They stock the largest supply of Quebec craft beer in the region, plus salami, nuts, cheese, pickles, potato chips, and a generous selection of hot sauce.
  • If you’ve ever wanted to combine trekking and afternoon tea, you can make it happen in Gatineau Park at the Mackenzie King Estate. This one-time summer home of a former Canadian Prime Minister offers an elegant afternoon tea complete with cucumber sandwiches.
