This beautiful, historic property was one of the first to be settled in the early 1800s. The credited first settler in Charleston, Vermont; Abner Allyn and his family owned this farm for 100 years! Our family began restoring the farmhouse as well as beginning a small regenerative farming operation in 2022. Currently we have a small flock of broilers and layers, turkeys, ducks and guineas. Our birds are fed an organic feed local to Vermont and are pasture raised. Freya an Luna are the Great Pyrenees' about the farm. They protect the flocks from predators. They are working dogs and have access to the entire property. For this-and other reasons, we discourage bringing pets to the farm. A sweet brook meanders through the property which all sites have access to as well as stunning views of bald mountain. Lovely farm views throughout the seasons. Multiple trails for exploring can be found on and off farm. Trail heads to multiple mountains are within a few minutes of campsites. Lake Willoughby is a short 4 miles away, 7 miles to Island Pond, as well as endless hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing and more.

Great tent camping experience. Quiet, great walking trails, amazing views, Surrounded by gardens, apple trees, grazing cows and you will be among several old historic buildings and farming implements from 1800's. I real bargain for the price! I went on a Monday into Tuesday when the museum and buildings were closed, this made for a private quiet experience. If you go during open times or peak summer/ fall times you may see more tourists passing through. Look forward to going again!

It's a lovely little farm, dog friendly and the volunteer host is so kind and thoughtful! She picked fresh leaves that have a calming property and gave me a tour of the farm - I saw the chicken coup "she lovingly calls the ladies" and the garden in front is incredible! Amazing river front but I did not have the time to take a dip. Chris is very responsive and allowed me to extend my stay last minute! It's a slice of heaven that is close to everything. Lennoxville lovely village is walking distance!

I set up my tent right next to the creek, and it was pure magic. The gentle sound of the flowing water was incredibly soothing — like nature’s lullaby through the night. The spot is basic and completely wild, but that’s exactly what makes it special. No crowds — just peace. 🌿 The ground is flat enough for a tent, with space for one or two campers. It’s only accessible by foot, which makes it feel truly remote. In the morning, I woke up to birdsong and soft sunlight filtering through the trees — such a calm and grounding way to start the day. 🌳 There are a few lovely little trails nearby, perfect for a peaceful walk through the woods. One of the highlights was the cozy riverside area with chairs and a hammock — such a perfect place to relax, read, or simply listen to the water. 🌟 A big thank-you to Paule and Benoît, who were incredibly kind and welcoming. Their generosity and good energy added a really special touch to the experience. Excellent site pour faire du camping! De plus la terre possède de nombreux sentiers aménagés très joli. À savoir que le site est à découvert du soleil donc ça fait très chaud quand le soleil tape le matin! Stéphan est un host amical qui avais des conseils utiles à partager! Ce fut un plaisir.

4 nights at Back to Nature Eco-Lodging

I have too many nice things to say about this beautiful campground. Paula and Benoit were amazing and accommodating even before I arrived. It is clear they value the comfort of all their guests, and everything is well laid out and explained in the lovely little welcome pack I recieved on arrival, with a map of the grounds and a lock for the wooden cache on site. I was especially grateful for the courtesy lantern I was able to borrow for my stay (take it! I brought two flashlights, a lantern and a headlamp and still found a lot of uses for it!) My stay in the hammock tent was amazingly comfortable. The tent is clean and well maintained. Despite heavy rains for most of my stay, I stayed cozy and dry. And a small river by the campsite made for a really nice soundtrack to fall asleep to. The hammock tent runs cooler than most tents due to being suspended. Nights hit 11 degrees and I noticed even with my inflatable matte and camp blanket, i needed to layer up to stay warm. Insulation is an absolute must. Highlight of the trip was the giant polyphemus moth that joined the other moths in trying to get at my lights through the mesh of the tent. It was huge and beautiful! It was a great trip, with kind hosts and a quiet, peaceful place to stay. I will absolutely book again.

Amazing scenery at an historical farm/homestead. Enjoyed Amish horses and buggies going by and neighbor cows. Next time a longer visit/tour.

Where to go

Parc National du Mont-Orford

Nestled among the towering peaks of Mont Orford and Mont Chauve, Mont-Orford National Park lets hikers take in majestic views from Bear Peak via Cretes Trail and Pekan Trail. Canoeing, cycling, rock climbing, swimming, and paddle surfing keep campers active in summer waters as well, while snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are available in wintertime. Camp within the park at its rustic campsites or in more amenity-filled campgrounds with full restrooms and supply shops.

Lake Memphremagog

Explore the 21 islands of Lake Memphremagog while sailing or canoeing through its waters. The lake is especially popular for fishing—it teems with sunfish, yellow perch, rock bass, largemouth bass, and bullhead catfish. Campers can stay in nearby cabin rentals and campsites close to bait and tackle shops, supply stores, and restaurants.

Bleu Lavande

Renowned for its lush lavender fields and gardens, Bleu Lavande farm offers lavender soap-making workshops and other farm events to interested visitors. Bleu Lavande is open year-round and features an onsite boutique as well as nearby cabin rentals, campsites, and RV parks.

Coaticook

Visit Coaticook on the Coaticook River to traverse the longest suspended footbridge in North America. Campers will also enjoy exploring the town’s historic features, such as the Château Arthur-Osmore-Norton, which was built at the turn of the 20th century and now houses the Musée Beaulne. Coaticook is also renowned for its dairy industry, so take a moment to sample its famous cheeses and ice cream during a daytrip.
