Learn more about this land: Rustic bunkie located on 2 acres, is nestled among the trees beside a small, crystal clear lake. With 700 ft of untouched shoreline, privacy is second to none. From this lake, you can access 3 other lakes by provided canoe/kayak without portage. PLEASE NOTE: The bunkie is for 3 guests only. However, there is room to pitch a tent outside of the bunkie (please select additional guests if you are planning on using both accommodations). The site is 35 min. from Algonquin Park and 11 km from MKC, the world-famous white water paddling centre. 10x10 main floor with sleeping loft. Solar power provides lighting & a propane furnace for cool nights. Solar lights outside provide ambient lighting-may be turned off if preferred. The call of the loons & the barred owl will be your lullaby as you drift off to sleep after a day of hiking, paddling, or swimming. There is no running water, you will have to bring your own drinking water. You will need to bring everything you require for cooking, eating and washing dishes. There is no sink, stove, or BBQ on site. As the site is off-grid, there are no appliances. There is a split log bench beside the self-contained fire pit. Please bring your own firewood, matches/lighter, and/or firestarter materials. Small fires only please, as this is a well-treed location. Fires must be extinguished prior to going to bed — there is a bucket by the firepit. If you are wondering if something is there, I suggest you reach out to check with me before arrival. There is a new private outhouse on site. The outhouse is past the bunkie along the path. Solar lights work with the flick of a switch — one switch by the door, one by the bed. You have access to 2 kayaks and 1 canoe, 2 adult lifejackets. These are located on the waterfront between the bunkie and the house @260 Matcheski Road. Please return these as you found them after each use. They are shared with the guests at the house. It is a natural shoreline at the bunkie, with a sandy bottom — pretty good swimming, actually! Absolutely no harsh chemicals/detergents in the water! Please leave the site tidy and as you found it. Take your garbage and recycling. This is a small lakeside community — no loud music, please. Respect the solitude! Please respect the natural setting — leave it as you found it, do not cut live growth.

This 30ac property was once the site of a Carding Mill used for the processing of sheep’s wool. Before wool can be spun into thread or yarn, it must be combed, also referred to as carded, to straighten the wool fiber and remove impurities. Water-powered carding machines like the one that was at this site made it much easier and faster to prepare the wool for spinning. It was said that it would take a family months to prepare as much wool by hand as a carding machine could card in a day. The carding mill on this site would have stood along the creek which is leading from the pond to the Grants Settlement road. Earth berms which you can still see today near the opening of the creek, held back water to power the mill. The pond would have been about 10ft deeper than it currently is now. Over the years the beavers have taken up the charge of damming the creek and making a natural aquatic habitat. The Old Mill Cabin was constructed in 2020 using salvaged beams from the old fallen down barn that you pass on your way in. It was a family affair with all getting involved in the process.

There are 3 double bunk beds in each cabin and a queen sized bed on the porch. There is running potable cold and hot water in cabin. Although there are NO in-cabin washrooms, we do provide a cabin-dedicated portion of a separate shower and washroom building in very close proximity. The sandy beach is ideal for children and adults alike to swim and there is a dock for sunning, diving or fishing. We have a raft out in the lake for more experienced swimmers. Along the water’s edge we have plenty of loungers and seating as well as campfire pits with free firewood. You can soak up the sun by the beach, picnic in the shade of our willow trees or try your hand at a game of horse shoes or for the avid fishermen Ferguson Lake has pike, largemouth bass and walleye. We are a 25-45 minute drive away from Logo’s Land, Calabogie Motorsports Park, 5 golf courses (Dragonfly, Renfrew, Calabogie Highlands, Oaks of Cobden and Whitetail), hiking destinations, ATV trails and numerous other lakes and rivers.

Check out the picturesque waterfall at High Falls Park, and stop by the picnic tables for a midday snack before jumping in for a swim.

Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park

Although Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park is smaller and lesser-known than the iconic Algonquin Provincial Park, it features the same lush deciduous forests and refreshing lakes. There’s no visitor center here, and the area is not as well-serviced (offering tent camping only and no RV parks or car campsites), but that’s a plus for those looking to avoid crowds.

Bonnechere Provincial Park

Settle into the sandy beach of Round Lake to enjoy the best of what Bonnechere Provincial Park has to offer. Set in Renfrew County, Ontario, this recreational gem offers over 100 campsites along with a shower station and playground. Both kayak and paddleboard rentals are available for exploring the expansive waters (just remember a lifejacket).

Petawawa

History lovers and military buffs will especially appreciate a pit stop in Petawawa. When to go

Head to Pembroke in the fall for stunning colors and a cycling tour—the best way to maximize your views of the changing leaves.
