The large lawn area is great for camping, campfires, playing games and relaxing while watching the horse and buggies of the local Amish and Mennonites go ambling by in a manner that speaks to a time gone by. The Perth Harvest Pathway section of the G2G rail trail is quite literally in the backyard. for hiking , bird watching and biking. We have an outdoor shower and large sink in a shed attached to the rear of our garage. It is easy to identify as it has a large white x on the door. We also have a few camping items such as a grill and a few cooking pots and pans in the small shed near the G2G trail

John provides a beautiful property to camp on, and a nice way to wrap a day of bike packing. The area is quiet and serene, with a beautiful sunset and sunrise. Having an outhouse, and stations with snacks and fresh water was very convenient.
I will definitely camp here again if I'm bike packing in the area.

If you are a bikepacker and you are riding the G2G (Guelph to Goderich trail) or you are anywhere close to Millbank... This is your place! The camping spot is basically beside/part of a resting area halfway of the G2G, which is managed by John and his family. Worth to mention: John is part of the board of directors of the G2G also which speaks about his commitment and dedication to his place and everything related with the G2G:
lots of space to choose where to set your tent,
toilet-water-shower-firewood available,
easy to socialize with the (many) trail users,
John is always ready to provide answers/suggestions to your requests...
Moreover, you don't always have the chance to sleep beside a cemetery...

Weekend Trip to Maitland River Campground
I’ve have come to Cardinals Nest twice and both times I have loved it. The cabin is beautiful and spacious, and hosts have all basic amenities you need in it. They also have started adding water jugs to the cabin which was super helpful. There is a nice stream for puppers to play in and a ton of room to roam/ hike. Cabins are spread out so you don’t feel cramped. Very highly suggest !

The farm was beautiful with plenty of space to set up a tent, enjoy the scenery and the animals. Grace and Jeff were very accommodating and welcoming. We had our 3 year old with us and she had a blast with the animals. Definitely coming back if we can!

Good communication, nice spot, clean toilet and shower, a nice bench to breakfast.
Only downside is the occasional car which seems loud because everything is so silent. We woke up on Sunday morning to horses pulling their buggies.
It was a perfect stay for us! Thanks John for hosting us!

I STRONGLY recommend this stunningly beautiful farm, and with Bernice blessing us with sharing all of the land.
There's a beach adjacent to the creek which is refreshing to dip into. And the beach created this past June, which enhances the ALREADY amazing experience you (or anyone for that matter). The entire beach bonfire effect at night with the gorgeous moon 🌙 being so deep red.... ? Stunningly gorgeous!!!!
There is also an amaaaaazing HUGGGGGE water slide 🛝 which proves to make it doubling the entire experiences there!
I'm actually mind blow 🤯 at the MANY attractions, such great people that have become regulars ( some every other wknd).
I personally took a backwoods site ( which they offer such a huge variety of camping experiences). My site being "THE RAVENS NEST ", Bernice names all sites after birds 🐦
I was the only backwoods tent ⛺️ camper, but she allowed me to customize my site, as backwoods tent campers are few, i wish i had my phone or tablet with me, but it seems to defeat the purpose.. Right?
There's a "Blue Jays Nest" which I was tp take, and that site it right at the beach ⛱️ and behind the site immediately the creek is there.
Bernice, I cannot thank you enough for what became JUST what I needed, shut down electric devices, and simply enjoy the land, wildlife. People.
I give a 💯 for this country experience.
Please look inside the door, there is a Terracotta planter on the bakers rack and one down on the beach.

Returning once again to this lovely property, owned by the sweetest couple! The farm was, once again, a great experience for camping. Beautiful area to explore for a weekend getaway! Also 10 mins from Mystery Waterfalls and 15 mins from the beach, can’t get much better than that. Thank you again to the hosts!
