Two small gravel sites up a small driveway. Could have used some weeding and tending - a bit after peak season. Nicely appointed with some solar lights, chairs, and steel wheel fire pits. No sea view but GREAT star views, and a couple miles from a quiet and fantastic public park sand beach.

Dans hipcamp was a perfect spot to roll into after a long drive from VT. We stayed 3 nights n could easily have stayed longer but for the urge to explore other parts of the coast. It’s near the beach and services in Petpeswick and has trails to explore also. Dan is the best ever communicator I’ve experienced with any Hipcamp or AirBnB reservation! Would definitely stay again.

Such a great place to stay. Jeffery and Tracey really thought of everything. We made the best meals in the outdoor kitchen, took in the full panoramic view from the deck and even got to take a shower! This place is perfect for someone who wants to have time away from the hustle and bustle but also have a few luxuries (The best one being the bathroom haha).
Such a nice family too and you can tell they had fun building everything and are excited to add even more. Thanks for everything!

If there is 5star hotel, there is a 5 star campsite as well and sleep by the sea campsite is one of them. Jeffrey and his whole family is very welcoming and thorough in explaining all the amenities in the campsite.

This is the perfect private camping spot. After a few weeks of exploring Nova Scotia, this was by far our favourite place to stay. The site sits right on the ocean, offering a breathtaking view from sunrise to sunset.
Jeffrey has thoughtfully set up everything you might need: a bathroom with a flush toilet, an outdoor shower with hot water, a cozy fire pit, and even a staircase leading right down to the water (see photos!).
The campground is well-located, close to several beaches. Clam Harbour Beach, just a short drive away, is great for beginner surfers — and if you want a lesson, reach out to Adam from Hurricane Surf Co., the best surfer around. For food and local flavour, Uprooted Café and Market is only about 25 minutes away. They serve excellent coffee and bites, and you can pick up fresh local vegetables, fruits, seafood, and meats.
Jeffrey himself is a wonderful host — welcoming and attentive. We loved the place so much, we dedicated an entire day to simply relaxing: reading, watching the waves, and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. At night, the starry sky is spectacular.
The spot is remote and very quiet, yet still connected — both Wi-Fi and cell service work just fine. It’s the perfect balance of comfort, nature, and tranquillity.

Our idea of perfect! We parked on a grassy area overlooking the water with gorgeous unobstructed views of the islands. The whole family greeted us, even though we arrived late. Jeffrey took time to show us the outdoor living area: sink, stovetop, bench swing, fire pit with benches and a lovely new and clean outhouse with lights, a sink, and a flushing RV toilet!!
We learned that Jeffrey used storm-felled trees for all the wood and planed the wood and built himself.
The moon was reflecting on the water magically and the breeze off the water kept the bugs to a minimum. It was so quiet and relaxing with the waves lapping gently.
There are neighbors but they are tucked away so it feels very private, but comforting thst the family home was just up the hill if we needed anything. We sat on the deck and saw millions of stars at night.
We had our two older dogs with us and they were so calm and happy there. In the morning we decided to book another night to just spend the day lazing about, reading, planning the next leg of our adventures. The longer we stayed the more we dreamed about buying a spot nearby. It's a really special place.
The parking spot is down a grassy slope from the main house and is pretty level on its own, but Jeffrey provided wood planks for us to adjust the wheel height.
The province had a fire ban in place because of the dry conditions, which was fine by us. But Jeffrey did have a great fire pit area set up with loads of chopped wood.

Enjoyed my one night at Dan's place. Due to an error on my part, I went to the opposite side (west) of the river, but fortunately he was quick to respond when I called to ask for directions to the correct spot. Was easy to find once I set the correct GPS coordinates, and after driving up a steep hill there was plenty of room to set up in a fairly level spot. I enjoyed talking for a while with Dan as he greeted me, telling me a bit about the mining history of the area -he was very gracious and easygoing. The spot was quiet at night and I slept well.

We were very lucky to be the first guests at this spot. Jeff and his wife have built something to be proud of. This isn't just a spot to park, they have built a 1 site campground. You have your own private deck, bathroom with flushing toilet, full outdoor kitchen with bbq and 4 burner propane stove and an incredible campfire spot (unfortunately the current NS burn ban meant we couldn't use it). We travel in a small campervan, so having access to a private bathroom and outdoor kitchen was a dream!
Their property is large and well kept, and the spot is at the edge of a cliff looking out at the Wild Islands. The campsite is a good distance from their house and offers great privacy. Safe to expect some wind coming off the water, so bring layers.
There were a couple projects still underway, like steps down to the water, and an outdoor shower that will make this spot even better than it already is.

Brian was an excellent host by being very responsive, helpful and generous! The camp site was private and well equipt for all one needs. I appreciated the power in the outhouse with an outlet so I could charge up my phone!
The evening bird songs were so soothing and my son loved wandering around finding wild berries.
I highly reccomend camping on Brians land if you like quiet, privacy and a host who is attentive 😊

Where to go
The South Shore
Follow the Lighthouse Route south of the city to explore charming stops such as Peggy’s Cove with its red and white lighthouse, making your way past stretches of white-sand beaches, the fishing towns of Lunenburg and Mahone Bay (great stops for ice cream or lobster rolls), making your way to the epic petroglyphs and myriad adventures at Kejimkujik National Park. You’ll find beachfront camping all the way down the shore, as well as inland sites.
Annapolis Valley
Following the shores of the Bay of Fundy, which has the world’s highest tides, this area is studded with wineries and sweet little towns and villages. Explore the historic fort at Annapolis Royal, home to some of Europe’s first North American settlers in 1605. There are amazing beaches and hikes out over cliff tops (the 4- to 5-day Cape Chignecto Coastal Loop, for example). There are tons of campgrounds in the valley, with a couple located in orchards or within walking distance of wineries.
Cape Breton
The jewel in Nova Scotia’s crown, Cape Breton Island is attached to the mainland by a causeway and driving the Cabot Trail—a highway that winds around Cape Breton Highlands National Park—is considered one of the world’s most beautiful road trips. Expect to see moose, eagles, whales (even from shore) and enjoy unforgettable hiking. There’s plenty of camping in the park (tent sites, RV sites, and otentiks) as well as many private campgrounds offering unique amenities such as on-site oyster farms.
When to go
Halifax is a fun city any time of the year, with its student population keeping things upbeat year-round. But many tourism spots don’t open up until late May or early June, so planning a trip beyond the city before that can mean limited options. The weather can be pretty chilly until then anyway, so your best bet is to come in summer or fall—the weather can be glorious through October.
Know before you go
- If you need camping supplies, Mountain Equipment Co-Op on Granville Street will likely have everything you need (and equipment rentals).
- Having your own vehicle is pretty essential if you want to explore outside of Halifax as transit options are pretty much non-existent.
- Cell phone coverage can be patchy in more remote areas, so don’t rely on your phone as your only guide to getting places.
- Nova Scotia can fully experience four seasons in one day, so be sure to take warm clothes even for a summer trip. It can also get pretty windy, especially in coastal regions, so be sure to properly secure your tent when setting up your camp.
