Greg and Shelly are extremely kind and have such a beautiful home! Very clean and LOTs of appliances and fun things to do in and on the property. They had dry firewood ready for use and the hottub was hot and well kept. We had hummingbird visitors and were able to go down to the river and see salmon swimming! We used the bbq that was full of propane also. We are returning guests and highly recommend visiting! They were so generous to invite us to stay longer past the check out time as there were no guests after us so we enjoyed being able to sleep in and pack up without rushing. Very happy to be up in such a gorgeous area. Don’t hesitate to book with them!

We had the best experience at strongwater cabins. The cabins are cozy and picturesque, with all the essentials. An electric kettle and mini fridge made our experience so much better, since we were able to store our food and enjoy hot drinks on the chilly autumn nights. The cabin comes with an electric fireplace that kept us perfectly toasty as well. Hot showers and clean bathrooms and area to wash our dishes was so convenient! Cheyenne has put her heart into the property and it shows. The hosts are super accommodating! We even got to use their canoe and paddle out on Waugh Lake, and check out their infrared sauna. The cherry on top is the delightful animals that live on the property. Geese, chickens, mini ponies, guinea fowl, and more. We explored the Skookumchuck trail and checked out the amazing whirlpools. Every inch of this forest is beautiful, made better by our time at the cabin. We will absolutely return! A 10/10 experience.

We LOVED staying at Cheyenne's Treehouse Cabin. We stayed in cabin 2 for 2 nights and it was pure perfection. It truly felt like you were in a treehouse among the trees. The whole property was gorgeous and miraculously upkept. The heater kept the cabin warm at night, towels and loonies for showers were provided. Close to Skookumchuk Narrows and Skookumchuk Bakery and Cafe (the cinnamon buns are a MUST). Would absolutely recommend for a friend.

Staying in Karen & Kito's A-frame cabin was a super unique experience! With a solar-powered battery, a little propane heater a stove and BBQ, I had everything I needed to enjoy a lovely night at the Tiny Secrets Farm :) I was able to have the window wall open late into the night. There were no bugs!! It was fun to explore the property, visit the rabbits and chickens and chat with Dan, the caretaker, who was super friendly and made sure I had a great stay! I really loved how quiet and peaceful it was! The shower is rustic but hot water is really all I needed ;)

Love this little micro cabin! It was well stocked with everything one could need and oh so cozy. The loft is so fun (gets a little warm at times) and the multi directional windows are great for letting a breeze through. The compost toilet isn’t my favourite but I am grateful for a warm shower (it’s a little inconsistent but it’s not cold!) Dan the groundskeeper and Kito and Karen are all lovely and leave you to relax but are readily available should you need anything. Very kind and receptive hosts. Looking forward to returning one day ☺️

For an overnight stop whilst cycle touring this is a good bet. However, the climb up from the main highway is very steep in parts. But the downhill the next morning is a great start to the day. The shower was VERY hot and needed adjusting. There is only one shower and one toilet so plan your ablutions well in advance.

I loved being up in the forest, waking up surrounded by trees. The double doors that open up to the front deck make the whole room feel a part of the outside world which was amazing! Sitting on the deck reading and enjoying a glass of wine was spectacular! Friendly hosts who run a great pizza truck and serve ice cream! Short walk to the harbor and trail to Skookumchuck Narrows. A truly beautiful piece of this magical part of the Sunshine Coast!

Where to go

Shannon Falls Provincial Park

Here, the falls are the star of the show. Walk a 350-metre trail along Shannon Creek, through Douglas firs, western red cedars, and western hemlocks, to a viewing platform overlooking the falls, keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife.

Garibaldi Provincial Park

Encompassing more than 1,800 square kilometres and abutting the east side of Highway 99 between Squamish and Whistler, this massive park is named for the 2,678-metre Mount Garibaldi. You’ll find outdoor pleasures to keep you busy, including hiking along 90 kilometres of trails and swimming at five lakes, plus opportunities for cycling, climbing, canoeing, and kayaking.

Alice Lake Provincial Park

Just north of town, you can pick your pace at Alice Lake. Those looking for a challenge can hike one of 10 trails, including the Four Lakes Trail, which traverses a six-kilometre course around all four park lakes. And if you’re just looking for a nice afternoon in the sun, drop your line to fish for rainbow trout and Dolly Varden, or head to one of two beaches to swim the calm waters of Alice Lake to an anchored platform.

Stawamus Chief Provincial Park

This park is all about the soaring peaks, so come for climbing and hiking. If you opt for the latter, lace up your boots and pack good equipment and plenty of stamina—while routes tend to be relatively short, they’re steep. The trail to First Peak, for example, runs only 1.5 kilometres, but involves a 540-metre gain in elevation.

When to go

Located in a temperate coastal climate, the summer months here are perfect for camping, with highs rarely reaching the mid-20s, and evenings cooling off quickly, perfect for sweaters and campfires. Spring and fall can be chilly, and winter is very wet—the town is doused by about 2,200 millimetres of rain every year, and most of that falls during the winter months. If you’re coming in the summer, make sure to book ahead, and this is a very popular tourist destination.

Know before you go

Fishing requires a license, which can be easily purchased at local hardware stores and other retail outlets.
Highway 99 can become extremely busy during peak season, especially on Fridays (headed out of Vancouver) and Sundays (going back).
Climbers should be aware that closures can be in effect on Stawamus Chief from March to July, to allow for peregrine falcons to nest on its flanks.
