The best pets off leash camping near Kamloops

·

A First Nations word for “meeting place,” Kamloops eflects its cultural roots in ranching while also embracing newer bounties of hops and ginseng farming. The region is crisscrossed with kilometres of backcountry roads and trails that take campers deep into a wilderness that few international tourists ever see. Much of the land is high, forested plateau while valley bottoms are arid and desert-like. Kamloops is popular among RVers, owing to the somewhat flatter topography and excellent highway system. Campers staying near here have a bounty of campsite options within a two-hour drive, including no less than seven provincial parks.

Over 200 well-stocked fishing lakes dot the forested Shuswap Highlands surrounding Kamloops. There’s even a particular species known as the Kamloops trout that’s prominent in these waters. Area campgrounds are ideal for RVing, some with full hookups and dump stations or even boat launches.

This park is ideal for waterfall lovers, with more than a few dozen accessible via park hiking trails. There’s also a nice variety of campgrounds, from lakeside spots perfect for canoeing to backcountry tent sites and group campsites.

Affordable camping can be found at MacGillivray Lake and Heffley Lake close to Sun Peaks Resort, British Columbia’s second-largest four-season resort.

Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort

77km from Kamloops · 5 sites · Lodging · Darfield, BC
A very remote, tranquil log cabin fishing camp hand-built in the 1960's. Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort is only accessible by ATV (snowmobile in winter) or by foot (a 9-minute walk from the parking lot). There is no public access to the lake so it is wonderfully private & peaceful. We offer 5 cabins in total with some areas suitable for tents. There is a day-lodge with a kitchen and eating area for guest's use, kayaks, row boats, and a paddle board free for use as well as a wood-fired sauna! The lake is excellent for swimming. It is feet-friendly, shallow, and has no sudden drop-offs. And if you like to hike, fish or BOTH then this is the place for you. There are many nearby lakes that are a short drive/ride and hike away! Akehurst Lake does not have cell service or wifi. Lights are made possible by a gas generator in the evening. There is only cold running water in the day-lodge sink which is seasonal and depends on if the creek is running. Guests should be comfortable being in the woods and aware that if no one else is there, they will need to light the stove and fridge and operate the generator if needed. **Packing List** - Bedding (sheets & blankets or sleeping bag. Pillow covers) - Extra pillows (we provide 2 per cabin. Ask if more are available before arrival) - Towel/face cloth - Dish cloth & Dish towels - Paper towel/napkins - Toilet rolls - Lighter for fires (if applicable). Ours tend to all go missing or stop working - Flashlight - Drinking water - Cooler & ice You are welcome to create your own outdoor kitchen at your cabin, but we do ask you to be mindful of removing items from the day lodge that those using the kitchen might be counting on. ***We cannot stress this enough**: This is very remote. It is truly another world up there and we cannot be there at all times so it is a good idea to have some knowledge and experience in off-grid/backcountry living!

Welcome to 3 Ravens Ranch (Formerly 7 Sparks Ranch) We are closed until next spring while we are doing some land improvements and infrastructure for our ranch. We will be re-branding under 3 Ravens Ranch. We look forward to re-opening next year! Enjoy a relaxing getaway with 3 Ravens Ranch. Consider extending your stay to fully unwind and explore everything the area has to offer. A beautiful creek flows right by the campsite, dip your feet in. You can go for walks or nap under the Aspens! Spring note - snow has been melting and the ground is unthawing - please feel free to send me a message if you have any question about the gravel road. It can be muddy and bumpy while the road awaits its winter repairs. We are one hour outside of Kamloops on a maintained public gravel road, however AWD or 4WD recommended during late fall to late spring. We have no minimum stay but highly recommend two nights. Do not use google maps to find our place - it can be very confusing. Google maps may show coming to our property from Savona but the easiest drive is from Kamloops. Please use the directions that get emailed to you just before your stay. To get here head to the Kamloops airport then follow Tranquille Criss Creek Road. We do not recommend traveling this road in the dark if you are not familiar with it! Wonderfully private! Come give our land some love as it recovers from the 2021 Sparks Lake forest fire. Acres and acres to hike, mountain bike and snowshoe. Surrounded by crown land there is no lack of space to explore and easy access to forest service roads to quad and bike. Many lakes near by for fishing and kayaking. Wildlife galore! There are wild flowers and plants so come forage and explore. Disconnect from the busyness of city life! Coming soon - guided hikes, foraging and information about local medicinal plants and a soon to be Apothecary on site! Detailed directions available after booking!
