Cabins near Kamloops

·

At the confluence of the North and South Thompson rivers, Kamloops is a popular destination among cabin campers looking for quick access to outdoor recreation—especially paddle boarding, kayaking, and fishing. The Kamloops area is a fantastic choice for those in search of a cabin getaway, and while most of the lodging options right in Kamloops proper tend to be of the hotel variety, you won't need to drive far to find a cabin rental to call home for a spell. You'll find a good selection of cabins and vacation rentals in and around Salmon Arm, just up the Trans-Canada Highway toward Revelstoke, plus quite a few options southwest of Kamloops in the Merritt area. Area cabins range from rustic tiny homes with hot showers to family chalets with wood-burning stoves and hot tubs. Kamloops also makes a good base from which to visit the Thompson Valley wine country or some of the region’s numerous hot springs.

A very remote, tranquil log cabin fishing camp hand-built in the 1960's. Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort is only accessible by ATV (snowmobile in winter) or by foot (a 9-minute walk from the parking lot). There is no public access to the lake so it is wonderfully private & peaceful. We offer 5 cabins in total with some areas suitable for tents. There is a day-lodge with a kitchen and eating area for guest's use, kayaks, row boats, and a paddle board free for use as well as a wood-fired sauna! The lake is excellent for swimming. It is feet-friendly, shallow, and has no sudden drop-offs. And if you like to hike, fish or BOTH then this is the place for you. There are many nearby lakes that are a short drive/ride and hike away! Akehurst Lake does not have cell service or wifi. Lights are made possible by a gas generator in the evening. There is only cold running water in the day-lodge sink which is seasonal and depends on if the creek is running. Guests should be comfortable being in the woods and aware that if no one else is there, they will need to light the stove and fridge and operate the generator if needed. **Packing List** - Bedding (sheets & blankets or sleeping bag. Pillow covers) - Extra pillows (we provide 2 per cabin. Ask if more are available before arrival) - Towel/face cloth - Dish cloth & Dish towels - Paper towel/napkins - Toilet rolls - Lighter for fires (if applicable). Ours tend to all go missing or stop working - Flashlight - Drinking water - Cooler & ice You are welcome to create your own outdoor kitchen at your cabin, but we do ask you to be mindful of removing items from the day lodge that those using the kitchen might be counting on. ***We cannot stress this enough**: This is very remote. It is truly another world up there and we cannot be there at all times so it is a good idea to have some knowledge and experience in off-grid/backcountry living!
