Tucked away on a quiet 25-acre block, our private campground is the perfect base to explore the Top End. We’re friendly dog friendly—and family friendly too (no extra charge for kids!). Take a stroll around the block, visit the veggie patch, feed the chickens, wander through native bushland to spot magnetic termite mounds and local flora and fauna, or just kick back under the stars. With land-based fishing and crabbing spots a short walk across the road or boat ramp 2 mins away, try your hand at some fishing! Within 10 minutes, you’ll find everything you need: local IGA, hardware store, cafe, tavern, post office, pharmacy, and a medical centre. Cool off with a swim or picnic at Berry Springs (5 mins), spot wildlife at the Territory Wildlife Park (5 mins), day trip to Litchfield (30 mins) or Kakadu (90 mins). The weather is warm and the site behind our pool is a nice space to be!
It is lovely to be in a space where you are the only camper! The tropical gardens provide privacy and abundant bird life. The property is safe and secluded in the rural suburb of Virginia.
We are situated in the Darwin Rural area on 5 acres of bush land with tropical gardens and a saltwater swimming pool.
There is a variety of bird life, lizards, frogs, and possums. You can feed our friendly butcher birds and King Fishers on the fly from our verandah or pool area. Sit with the fish pond and chat with the turtle who is very shy!
We have dogs that live at the property so pets on application only. (we do have a dog cage available if required and can pet sit for a day if required )
We have caravan sites for fully self-contained caravans and unpowered sites in the horse yard. There is a single shower / toilet block available at the top of the driveway.
We do have power to some sites, and we would appreciate it if you do not leave air conditioners running while you are off site.
If you are travelling in a group, we can accommodate you in a large open area if your group would like to stay together. Each caravan site has its own fireplace for your use.
Only 5 minutes from Palmerston or Coolalinga, 25 minutes from Darwin CBD.
If you are looking for a local fishing tour, we can hook you up with the locals.
We have many fishing and crabbing locations close by on the Elizabeth River, Middle Arm or around Darwin Harbour.

This was a great stay..it was by chance we found it advertising for a space to fix our car.. Jennifer could not have done enough for us arranging our stay..we ran into some trouble needing a lift to get parts and Lochy was a great help driving us around to where we needed to go… things you need to know - it is peaceful and away from traffic noise.. there are chooks that say hello each day… the pool was loverly and refreshing and the bathroom was clean and good.. it is a bush setting and although I get eaten by midges and mossies.. I lite the coils early and never had an issue… please clean up after yourselves after you use the bathroom… it is not the hosts job to clean up after every use … thank you Jennifer and Lochy we loved staying at Strangys 🌻

Overview
About
Escaping the sweltering city heat is easy at Berry Springs Nature Park, just a 40-minute drive south of Darwin. Pack your binoculars (this is a bird-watching hotspot), your camera (the woodland trails dazzle with seasonal wildflowers), and your swimsuit (you can swim at the natural pools and creeks) and set out to explore the monsoon forests and wetlands. Berry Springs is the ideal spot for bushwalking and picnicking, but there’s no camping in the park itself. However, campers will find a selection of caravan parks, holiday parks, farm stays, and Hipcamps dotted around nearby Berry Springs and Tumbling Waters.
When to go
Time your visit to Berry Springs for the end of the wet season (March through April), when vibrant wildflowers bloom throughout the woodlands. The park is open daily year-round, but the dry season months of May through September are the best time for swimming—weather conditions often mean that it’s too dangerous to swim during the wet season.
Know before you go
- Berry Springs Nature Park is set 50 kilometres south of Darwin or about a 40-minute drive along the Stuart Highway.
- There’s no admission fee to visit the park.
- Berry Spring facilities include restrooms, showers, picnic and barbecue areas, a free car park, and a kiosk (open from April to November only).
- There are accessible restrooms and picnic areas at Berry Springs Nature Park.
