Take a step back in time as you enter the largest stone fort ever built by the British colonists, Fort Frederick. The massive stone fort was built in 1756 to defend Maryland’s frontier during the French and Indian War. Despite its violent history, the Fort Frederick State Park Campground is a peaceful place to relax and explore the area’s local biking, boating, canoeing, fishing, and hiking. Maybe even stage your own historical reenactment if you’re into that sort of thing.

We had a great multi-family camping trip to Fort Frederick this fall. Gorgeous scenery with interesting history thrown in.
