Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
In 1831 formerly Northern's Mill had an old mill house, dwelling house, outbuildings, mill pond and water courses with about 31 acres and was bought for an enormous amount of $10.00! At the working mill the owner's wife baked pies for the workers to enjoy while they waited for their ground grains (most likely corn, soybeans and wheat). The pond is also recognized as Courtney Mill Pond and Kissinger Mill Pond. Fires in the 1980's have claimed the building creating a perfect place for you to enjoy nature outside. Bald Eagles are a common siting. We offer a primitive camping experience in the heart of the Northern Neck.  The road is washed out and fresh water pond mostly drained. You will access from Mundy Point Road. This historical site had a working Mill built in the early 1800's. Please check out my friend's place nearby at Callao Brewery and Rivah Vineyards at the Grove!  Grab some fresh local veggies from one of the Amish stands and don't forget your tackle and bait at RW's. Camp 1 has the most room for car camping and groups close to the road and overlooking the pond. Camp 2 is a short hike to a private knoll overlooking the grassy marsh of Mill Creek, this is tidal water that flows to the Potomac. Gratitude at the Mill Pond
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely campsite and look forward to coming back. The car camp site was spacious with a fire ring, and the walk-in site is past the first site down a path that goes along the creek. Our stay was peaceful and we enjoyed watching and listening to the local wildlife.

Gratitude at the Mill Pond
Cool spot tucked away near wildlife and bay. The damn is down but at high tide could make it out but easy enough to just go down the road a bit and put in.

Had confusion with where and how it all worked. Found our spot. Farther walking than inticipated and had to cut through the second camp to do so. Once back there…nice and secluded. We like that. Tent set up on platform. Other trash and debris left from Im sure other people. Fishing is not what it is promoted to be. But we scheduled this last minute. So that’s on us. There are other areas to do that with, just not like there since the road washed out. If you are going to do a walk in i suggest I’m actually back pack walk in versus a pull in approach. Owner was responsive and kind and everything, but things were just super confusing.

Gratitude at the Mill Pond
Susan has a wonderful plot of land. We stayed in our van but if we brought our tent there is a great spot down the trail. Wish we had a little more time. Would have been nice to get the paddle boards out on the river that runs through camp.

Gratitude at the Mill Pond
Susan was so accommodating of our group and easy to work with/eager to help and provide suggestions for the local area. The views of the pond and creek are beautiful and the campsites have plenty of shade. We heard and saw many egret and herons, and when we took the paddle boards out on the creek and out to the river we saw a bald eagle, beaver, fish, turtle, and other birds. It was incredibly quiet and peaceful other than the wildlife! The campsite is on a back road, but the road was closed to through traffic due to damage from a recent storm. I imagine even with the road open, there wouldn’t be much traffic except for the occasional fisherman. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area! Thanks again Susan for sharing your special spot with us!

Gratitude at the Mill Pond
Had a great time here. Despite being unprepared for some heavy rain couldn’t beat the atmosphere. Perfect place to hang out and unwind. Short walk in to campsite about 40yrds but nothing difficult. Susan was kind, accommodating and easy to reach with questions.

Peaceful and Relaxing Stay
Gratitude at the Mill Pond
I had a wonderful weekend at Gratitude at the Mill Pond! Very private, peaceful and clean. Great views and the tree cover even kept most of our stuff dry when it rained overnight. I recommend staying here!
