SIBA Retreat Centre is a beautiful and friendly Buddhist retreat centre in the Snowy River country of East Gippsland, Victoria. Formerly ONTOS, it was founded by Lama Choedak Rinpoche and formally opened and consecrated by His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche in 2006. During this time His Eminence gave the centre the dharma name 'Tsarchen Choeling'. SIBA has all the conditions for the perfect retreat. Simply being at SIBA calms the senses and heals the mind. SIBA is a welcoming and peaceful refuge and its unique atmosphere is well known to visitors.

SIBA Retreat Centre is a beautiful and friendly Buddhist retreat centre in the Snowy River country of East Gippsland, Victoria. Located on the edge of stringybark forest, your neighbours are the birds and wallabies. SIBA has all the conditions for the perfect retreat. Simply being at SIBA calms the senses and heals the mind. SIBA is a welcoming and peaceful refuge and its unique atmosphere is well known to visitors. A peaceful, tranquil place of refuge for all, located in the beautiful wilderness of the snowy mountains. This site may be ideal for anyone using their vehicle to sleep in, vans, utes etc. 4wd with pop tops have parked here in the past. Not recommended for caravans or larger camper vans or if towing. One can set up a tent here, the ground is flat and the carport will provide shelter.

Located on the edge of stringy bark forest in the beautiful wilderness of the snowy mountains., the SIBA cabins are very peaceful... your neighbours are the birds and wallabies. Cabin 4 has a queen size bed and 1 bunk (2 single beds) . The cabin is open space with bedroom, kitchenette and lounge. A wood burner heats the space up nicely in the winter. Fire wood is provided. Kitchenette is simple yet adequately supplied for all your cooking needs. If there is need for more, access is available to commercial kitchen in the main house where where fridge and freezer are provided. Guests have access to the spaces in the main house, such as the commercial kitchen and the communal lounge / dining areas. As well, the multi faith temple for any body work / meditative practices. The cabins do not have their own bathroom or toilet, these amenities are an easy 2 min walk from the cabin. There is no WiFi or phone range in the cabins. WiFi is only available and limited to the area around the main house in reception, lounge and dining area. It is possible to work remotely from the Dining area, there is a certain degree of privacy and internet is stable. If planning to drive to or though Jindabyne, on Barry's way, please do your own research for whether your car is suitable to dirt road conditions. Please also take note of our cancellation policy.

We had a fantastic stay in the Cabin! Starting from super supportive and welcoming host George, surrounded by wallabies and luaghing kookaburras. Cabin was very tidy and clean, all amenities in good condition, and marvellous views. We would definitely come back!

I loved my stay in Cabin 3 as did my dog It was warm and very welcoming There’s everything you need as well as the option to use the main kitchen It’s such a peaceful oasis of nature with many non humans around George and the other volunteers were gracious and very helpful The quiet nights were balm for the soul and the bed and bedding really comfortable I will definitely return A true find

Cabin 4 was a great experience. My wife and I had a fantastic time in the seclusion and serenity. The cabin itself had all of the necessary inclusions, and the wood stove provided excellent warmth throughout the night.. The toilet block is a close stroll The highlight would have to be seeing the stars from the back porch and waking up to the views of mountains and frost on the pastures. George was fantastic and nothing was too hard. We had a great stay and will definitely be back when we are down there next.

Super peaceful place to stay. George seemed lovely during our brief interaction. We camped down the hill on the open grass patch, the weekend we were there the retreat Centre was having some classes so there was occasional gong ringing at various times but it was pretty distant for us. Beautiful property. Bring everything as the nearest town is 15 minutes drive away.

Jambala Cottage
We had an amazing stay, the cottage was beautiful, spacious and clean. We had wallabies visiting in the morning and evening, and it was fantastic to listen to the birds all around. Very peaceful and we'll definitely be back!

Siba is quite a big complex of buildings, permaculture and gardens as well as animals in a peaceful rural position. We were met by the very friendly and helpful Evan who showed us around. He explained that we were able to use the bathrooms with showers and the well equipped kitchen, and were also welcome to use the yoga studio. We only used the bathrooms in the end and didn't see many other people about so it was nice and private. There were lots of birds and kangaroos around the camping area and it was a pleasant and interesting place to camp. Very pleasant hosts!

Enjoyed my stay at SIBA, makes a great base for exploring the high country and snowy river. Excellent location for a quiet retreat, good kitchen facilities, and the staff were good, thanks in particular to George and Sharon for their consideration and kindness.

I really enjoyed our night at SIBA. George was lovely and there are plenty of facilities, such as a commercial kitchen, showers and toilets. A really nice property to stroll around on with lots of wildlife!

Quiet place and a wonderfully stocked kitchen. However I didn’t see George the whole stay and although I arrived late there was no information before arriving. Then there was water issues and the cold water was switched off when I was mid shower. It is wonderful to see the wildlife however the area designated for camping is full of feces and therefore so many flies which takes away from the relaxing space.

Lovely peaceful grassy area to pitch on. Facilities are really great. We saw lots of cockatoos, rosellas, kookaburras, kangaroos and wallabies.

I so rarely am really disappointed by somewhere but this campsite just wasn’t it. Don’t get me wrong, the toilets and showers were lovely and after a long time without one it felt like heaven. Loved the tiles, reminded me of my grandmas bathroom and well always love have kangaroos around. However, camping land wise nothing was flat and the areas they suggested were just churned up dirt and dust. Ended up parking on the road because it was slightly more flat and used the grass verge to cook. Personally I would find somewhere else :)

Wilderness Cabin 2
Stayed in cabin 2. Cosy with wooden oven. Beautiful views. Plenty of wallabies, kangaroos, all sorts of parrots and kookaburras. George was very helpful and responsive. We arrived after hours and George left a very helpful written message at reception, knowing we couldn't contact him as there was no phone reception for a number of hours on the road (through the national park). Would love to stay again. Thank you George!

This was a lovely place to stay, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for some time away. Caro was lovely and helpful if I needed anything, the space was so relaxing and clean with great access to nature. I was able to really connect with the environment but not sacrifice any comfort! Don't think twice about booking a cabin.

Quiet Relaxing Cabin

I had a very quiet and relaxing time in Cabin 2. It has beautiful views from the balcony. The bed, linen, pillow, and towels were provided. Nice fireplace with plenty of dry firewood. There is a central bathroom/toilet block a couple hundred metres away, with a hot water shower. There is a small kitchen with a sink, a kettle and a gas stove, which is very convenient. For large meal preparation, there is a fully equipped central kitchen. A great place to do some meditation, yoga and walks.

The bed is comfortable, the view is lovely; the cabin has everything you need for basic cooking and then there is access to the kitchen in the main building. George was very helpful with advice about the area and quickly replaced a gas stove that was faulty. Such a peaceful place. Thanks for a great stay.

Magical place
Wilderness Cabin 4
I had the most wonderful stay in Wilderness Cabin 4. George welcomed me and showed me around. The cabin was very clean and the views were just stunning! Having no reception meant I had to switch off and just enjoy the magnificent sunset. My dog Lolly had an absolute ball smelling all the smells, watching the wallabies and chewing sticks. Thank you for having us!

I loved tent camping at SIBA, no one would expect such a place with all necessities available in such far place away from town. Great relaxing weekend retreat. SIBA offers natures scenic relaxing therapy. Great for people who can practise meditation/yoga - as the place is calm and serene. Glelantipy road is big ghat road - needs careful driving for first timers, can take 2wd unless it’s in good condition- as the route to SIBA is hilly and too many highs and lows with atleast 250 m altitude roads and ranges surrounding the roads. SIBA has fully Equipped huge kitchen , very big seating area , hot water access , common toilets , showers , and friendly carers of the site to help us in handy. It’s a bit cold place to stay - but great experience.
