We offer everything from viewing wildlife without cages to 5km bushwalking tracks to a rainforest, waterfall, and mountaintop. Our studio cabins are self-contained, separate, and private. We also offer tent sites, and campervan sites, complete with composting toilets, along with private tipis. Perfect for a stand-alone visit, or as part of a road trip, we have everything you need for a memorable stay. Be aware, the road up to the retreat is gravel and steep in sections so may not be suitable for some cars.

This was a lovely spot on the hill with reasonable privacy from other campers. Check in was easy with directions to your site easily collected at the reception building. Road up is steep and narrow. Normally there would be hot showers and option for bath (paid extra) but they had lost all their water supply the day before we arrived. Was a shame for us.

Beware Dangerous Driveway In

Dangerous driveway Beware and not true photos of sites. The steep rd and and extremely steep driveway in was a very traumatic experience. It doesn’t say in the About (blurb) description thats written up, but is mentioned once you book to drive up In 1st gear and use 4wd if you have it and also don’t stop. I hate to think what happens if you meet someone driving out. I arrived very stressed out and traumatised from the drive up to the property. I had booked site 2 car accessible (the one opposite the kitchen, apparently) which by the way looks absolutely nothing like the photos). When I got to my campsite it was very small and lumpy, not level and it was also exposed to the camp kitchen (not private) I knew we would not be in any way comfortable so I went back to the office in tears and said to Michael I didn’t think we were the right fit for the place, as the drive in and out was too stressful and the site was uneven and lumpy and I wouldn’t be able to sleep. He offered me a refund. (In hind sight I think he offered this just get rid of me as the refund never arrived back in my bank account! ) I also messaged Michael to see if he had given the refund and he never replied to my message.

This is the best site, so close to ammenities but far enough away for complete privacy. On a side note be prepared for furry visitors and keep food and cooking stuff packed away. Pademelons were friendly but the possums a little aggressive. If you pack everything away they soon move on. Highly recommend Old Growth Forest Walk, beautiful.

Lovely private camp-site and grounds. Lots to do there and around the area. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back (lots of friendly animals too which is always a bonus)

This was my second time staying at Huon Bush Retreats. It's still one of the most magical campgrounds I've stayed at. Very quiet, great facilities, plenty of privacy. I will definitely be back again.

We had a lovely stay at Huon Bush Retreat. The bush setting is peaceful. The sites are positioned to give complete privacy. The walks and facilities were well maintained.

I had a fabulous stay at Huon Bush Retreats for my quarterly personal retreat. It was amazingly quiet & peaceful - just what I was looking for ! The outdoor kitchen & lounge area was really useful for me as I was in a tent. I just chilled on the couch by the fire most of the day. The easy access to the bush walks was amazing.

Felt very welcome. Pamela and Michael were very friendly and helpful. Site felt very private nestled in the bush. Birds and other wildlife in abundance. Great walks. Great place “to charge one’s batteries”.

We absolutely loved our time at Huon bush retreat. Both Pamela and Michael are gracious hosts, thank you for sharing your beautiful spot. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Tasmania. The outdoor bath was the cherry on top as were the numerous bush walks. Highly recommend. Having wallabies with joeys and pademelons also with joeys sharing our space was an experience in its self. Seeing a masked owl flying through was also amazing.

Self-Contained Studio Cabin
The check in process was easy with just picking up a paper map and no key exchange. We found our cabin on the beautiful property after the steep drive in. And we stayed in the big tree cabin. It is such a cosy cabin and the view across the landscape and trees is really relaxing especially if you are relaxing in the bathtub. The place is made super special with all the apparent wildlife surrounding you and also the soothing sound of the waterfall/creek and the walks that start from the property. It feels like you are a world away from hobart city which is actually only 30 minutes away. Theres also a woolworths not far and cooking facilities at the cabin, so stop by and come prepared so you dont have to leave.

The property was beautiful. There are a range of walks of varying distances available at your doorstep, and wildlife that comes to visit at night. We stayed at a campervan site which was nice and level, surrounded on three sides by bush and was and convenient to the toilets. Pamela and Michael were lovely to deal with, and we really enjoyed the gourmet platter they put together for us. We would stay again and have already recommended it to a friend!

First, I'd like to say that the space and location is beautiful. It's a truly spectacular part of the Huon Valley and the work you have done on the trails and campground is top notch. The amenities are also excellent (best composting toilet system I have seen to date). That said, I believe the Hipcamp booking system is a bit misleading. Below is the image that is used to advertise the camp sites. I have also attached an image of the campsite location that I chose through the booking system. Hipcamp lists this as 'campsite 1'. The "across from the kitchen spot" is not listed anywhere (this is where we stayed). I was told on leaving that this spot is considered 'overflow'. I feel this spot is disappointing at best; every other spot is secluded in the bush with natural views that don't include that camp kitchen. Privacy is advertised and this spot does not offer it. It's also a challenging spot because between the swing and the kitchen, we are only able to rest around the hours that others will let us. We're up with the first banging of pans and can sleep when all the diners have cleaned up. Yes, I made a mistake with booking for one guest, but I sorted it out when addressed. Ultimately, it feels like best practice to advise someone when you are allocating them a less-than-advertised overflow camp site. This also may just be a limitation with the Hipcamp booking system. Again, aside from the individual spot we were given, the Huon Bush Retreat is a wonderful space.

This is a beautiful place to camp. Hosts Michael and Pamela where great. Our site was very private, with loads of visiting pademelons, little birds and possums. We absolutely loved the the thought and sincere recognition to our First Nations Peoples. The walk to Mt Misery, was well maintained and well worth the effort. We also enjoyed an outdoor hot bath. As an added bonus Michael’s interest in Aura Australis.

A wonderful location and exceptional hosts. We lived our tent licstii, nestled in a stunning location, without another camper in sight. Pamela and Michael were wonderful hosts. Kitchen and bathroom facilities were excellent. We can't wait to return.

Excellent location. Clean and tidy amenities. Quiet and peaceful sites with lots of privacy. Didn't use the kitchen much but was very well set up. Everything within walking distance. The walks were an added bonus. Beautiful Bush Bath.

Awesome place. Its like being in your own personal forest setting with a variety of walks right on your doorstep. Good clean facilities, including showers that were hot all times of the day. Peace and quiet to the max. Loads of wildlife to see. Perfect. Highly recommend.

We stayed in a campervan site in our rooftop tent, the area was private, great place to have a fire, plenty of space & the area was very clean.
