We are a Poll Merino sheep stud and a wheat/barley cropping farm at Emu Downs in the Mid North of SA. We have resurrected this character old workers quarters which we've turned into a rustic, peaceful abode for you to enjoy. Sleeps four (double bed, single bed and old miners couch,). Bring your own bedding. There is a flushing external toilet and a bush shower (ie: a shower bag, provided). The room with the open fire can be utilised as a kitchen/living area. We've provided crockery, cutlery, glasses, kettles and a camp oven. There is running cold rainwater into the sink. Cooking can be done on the open fire, or use the small camp gas cookers. There is also a gas BBQ with side burner in the open end room. If you are really brave, try your hand at camp oven cooking in the campfire. There is no power, only lighting provided from a small solar panel/battery. Extra guests welcome in tents, swags or vans adjacent to the cottage. To ensure only one group of campers at a time, THE COTTAGE HAS TO BE BOOKED FIRST, then book the extra campers through the additional campsites listing. Talk to me about your needs. Campfires welcome when not in fireban season. You are welcome to bring your own FIREWOOD, or I can supply for $25 a wheelbarrow load. BOOK THIS AS AN EXTRA. Dogs are permitted, but please understand, we are a sheep stud and need to ensure no disturbance from dogs. Please advise if you intend to bring your dog.

Eckert’s Old Place
My partner and I enjoyed every moment at eckerts old place. Chris was a amazing host ! She came to say hi on arrival and even bought down twin 2 day old lambs later in day for us to feed. The place has such beauty and serenity. The sunset and sunrise where breath taking and the stars at night lit up the sky so bright ! We lit the indoor fire which kept the cottage very cosy all night and through to the morning. We cooked dinner and brekkie on the BBQ and toasted marshmallows on fire. We loved the rustic charm of the place. We felt like we where living the vibe many years ago.. so wonderful ! There was everything we needed there. Full with all kitchen equipment, pans, pots, glasses etc. Kettles, gas burner. Lots of beautiful candles in every room. We had a wonderful walk along part of Heysen trail which you can walk to from the house. We will definitely be back and for longer next time ! Thankyou so much Chris ! 🐑

Eckert’s Old Place
Great space and views over the valley during sunset/sunrise. There was a nice road/track nearby to a look-out over a ridge which we took our bikes on with the kids. Would definitely stay again.

Eckert’s Old Place
Home comforts, tranquil space
If you want to be off grid but still with most of the comforts of home, I couldn’t think of a better place to base yourself in the Mid North of SA! Tranquil, peaceful ideal to unwind. If you’re into reading and local history then there are ample books on the early settler family’s histories to check out! Easy access to The Lavender and Heysen walking trails too. Take in uninterrupted views of the sunrise from the porch, sunsets beyond the range and spectacular night skies! Highly recommended for solo, groups or families
