The campsite is situated on the beach, sheltered by the sheoaks in the back dunes. At the rear of the campsite lies a freshwater lagoon, locally known as the keyholes. Currently, there are four sites available to be booked. There is a camp kitchen with a two gas burner, all pots and pans, plates and cutlery with table and chairs to sit at. There is also a big esky there to use for either your food or drinks. Fresh water is provided in twenty litre drums. The bush shower works on the keg being heated up just like a kettle. Once it is hot then a nice warm shower is to be had to wash off all the salt from the ocean. There is also two compost toilets for your convenience. A unique feature includes the opportunity for surfing, fishing, and swimming in your private lagoon. A short drive will take you to Point Lookout. 10 minutes and you are at the pub mixing with the locals. Access is via the beach only and tides are a consideration. Please check "Point Lookout tides" on Willy Weather. I don't normally travel on the beach if the tide is over 1.5 metres. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is required. Camper trailers can be brought in as they are light. Caravans are not permitted due to the tight turning circles.

We loved our stay at Tappys camping! John was a wonderful host and we had everything we needed. We loved the camp kitchen and hot shower after a big day swimming! We hope to be back again :)

Great area for camping, beach is close to the camp site. Facilities are great. Access to the campsite is very easy. Will definitely return again!

What a great spot, private and plenty of space! Helpful to have toilets and the shower too!! The kitchen was good especially for washing up. An absolute bonus to have a solar set with battery so we could charge our devices!! John was super helpful with heaps of local knowledge. We are looking forward to going back again!!

Had the best time at Tappy’s… such a wonderful campsite.. everything you need and nothing you don’t.. so great to drive down the beach and enjoy a total getaway. We met John and his son Steve who own the place - two of the absolute best humans. So happy to have found this awesome gem. We’ll be back!

I was very disappointed with this camp. Directions where not correct to get there, we were lost and unable to get a hold of the host. When finally finding the camp we were it was not what we expected, we actually didn’t feel safe to stay there and left. It was untidy, no clear camp area and the so called camp kitchen and bathroom was filthy. It felt like a homeless camp to be honest.

The site was not as private as expected / what it looked like in pictures. A number of other sites in close proximity and weren’t allocated. Instructions on Hipcamp need updating, the tracks from beach to site are washed away so need to take keyholes track. Lots of march flies when we went (Dec). Good and easy access to beach and shower facilities are great. John was very friendly and accommodating.

Great spot for a few quiet nights away. We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves. The place has everything you would need, camp kitchen with sink connected to water, gas burner and a table under a roof. Hot showers and toilets (composting). Short walk down to the beach. Perfect time of the year also, watching whales, dolphins and catching fish daily. Easy enough to get to as the entrance was washed away. John sent through directions and a map. Would camp here again!!!

We had an overall great experience. We did have difficulty finding the entrance, due to the storm changing the entrance to the camp. It is a lovely walk to the beach from the camp. The camp it self is well stocked with all necessities, even toilet paper. The only downside was the piles of rubbish nearby.

John's land is a peaceful place between a freshwater lake and the surf filled with birdsong. Great amenities. We would love to come back.

We loved camping at Tappys. 2 couples and a couple of dogs enjoyed the friendly and rustic site. All advertised amenities were better than expected and the evening's and nights under stars with the surf music was blissful. Beach access is fine and sea swimming at calmer times quite possible (just watching for the 4x4 beach traffic). The ponds are an easy walk and provide delightful, secluded fresh water swimming. Thanks to John and Steve for sharing their land and experience with us

Lovely spot on a lovely island. Was quite difficult to get to with the high tide. A neighbour put us up on his site for the night on John’s word. John was super helpful and made lots of effort to assure we were ok and made it in. Once in the site is gorgeous! My children lost their minds at how cool it all was and I will be recommending and be back. Thanks John.

Great campsite hidden from the wind . Great little outdoor shower and loo. Good entertaining area to cook up and fillet fish . Beach fishing was average due to wind but pick the right time would be great little spot . Clean and tidy camp

We found the campsite to be a little unkempt - the toilets were full and were off putting, the kitchen sink water didn’t work so difficult to wash up there. It was a lovely to have a hot shower which only occurs after a hot day heats the water. It was a lovely walk though to the beach and the sound of the waves at night.

This place is a great spot on North Stradbroke Island. Although tide dependant, close to Point Lookout, close to the Causeway 4WD access. Great facilities for a bush camp, with camp kitchen, shower and composting toilets. Camper trailer friendly, dog friendly. I have stayed/camped everywhere possible on this island, this is my pick. Highly recommend.

I like this camping spot, I brought a camping trailer in easy enough. Seemed to be out of the wind behind the sand dunes too. Had an undercover seating and kitchen area which would be handy if it rains. The bush toilets and shower were fine for us too. The only thing is you can't really get in or out if the tides over 1.5m just keep an eye on it and it'll be fine. John was a good host, I'd come back.

The spot is perfect, it's a little piece of heaven with swimming hole and beach just a walk away, it's very natural with plenty to do for a family and everything is close by. Loved access to the shower and ammenities. Unfortunately, when we booked the site, we expected to get a specific spot but no site was allocated to us upon arrival, also there were supposed to be only two sites when we booked but there were more sites occupied. We were allowed to choose were to set up a camp but also felt like that spot was an afterthought and not ready yet. Be warned that the ground is very uneven for a bigger tent, so would not go back there with our two room tent. The environment was unkept - a lot of building materials around the place and some work was done during our stay which didn't feel private or natural at all and rather was disruptive, definitely not something I would expect for the money we paid. On the other hand the owners were pleasant and nice to have a chat with. They explained that camping area is growing and they are preparing more sites, to which I can see the vision, yet it seems we arrived at the wrong time and were part of the process rather than the finished beautiful place to stay.

We had a great time camping in this spot. It was a secluded area so had no one bothering us and came with a camp kitchen, shower and toilets. Perfect for me and my partner, would recommend!

Quiet, secluded location off the beach and away from others. Toilets and showers were a great addition. Fire pit with pre-stocked firewood was great after a long day out in the sand. Thanks John!

My daughter and I had a great spontaneous couple of nights camping at Tappy’s. We were very fortunate to have the site to ourselves (even being school holidays). The 4WD lesson getting in was very much appreciated in the soft sand as were the hot showers. The camp is well setup with quite a bit of equipment so we didn’t need to take nearly as much as we did. John was very friendly and helpful at all times. A bit of a cleanup around camp would make it a near perfect experience.
