Featuring an amazing rustic cabin, nine riverside campsites, along with paddock and bush sites, all 4WD accessible and two equally stunning 2WD accessible sites. You’ll share our spaces with kangaroos, wallabies, emus, echidnas, deer, platypus and more. Enjoy some optional extras, including Tammie's home made bread, farm fresh, free range eggs, or one of our range of grazing platters, home made jams or hot chocolate kits. Or pamper yourself with a Crystal reiki session, or tarot reading. The 2WD accessible sites feature spectacular views to the right, towards Mt Panorama and Mt Horrible and towards Mt Canobolas to the left. Each campsite offers its own unique features for you to enjoy and a hand crafted pit toilet is accessible to those camped along the river bank. There are many spots in the various 4WD accessible paddocks around the property to camp to your hearts content. Plenty of room for children to run around in a safe farm environment further away from the river, so choose your spot, under the shade of a tree or out in the open. PLEASE NOTE: Our paddock sites are NOT located on the river bank. These sites are 500 - 700 metres walk from the river but this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to swim. All guests are able to access the river, we simply ask that you don’t encroach on other guests campsites whilst doing so. Paddock sites are great for those with small children who don’t want to be too close to the river, or for larger, noisier groups who’d like to be isolated from other guests. There are many spots in the various 4WD accessible paddocks around the property to camp to your hearts content. If you’re not into actual camping in tent or trailer form, come spend some time in our insulated rustic cabin that has been lovingly built by Damo. Featuring an open floor plan with a queen bed, a bunk bed and two singles, this space can accomodate up to 6 people. Sheets are provided but guests will need to provide their own blankets and pillows. Heating and cooking are facilitated by a cast iron wood fire, featuring two hot plates and an oven space and there is a cold water sink for drinking water and dishes. Some wood will be provided for your stay. Once this is gone, you may purchase extra. A small fridge will facilitate some food and drink storage but you may need to bring a portable fridge/esky as well. A gas powered shower can be hired if required. A new long drop is under construction closer to the cabin but for the moment, feel free to use the communal long drop near the camp kitchen. A rechargeable lantern is supplied for you to take with you. The cabin is solar powered, with usb points for phone charging, but no other power points. There is also an outdoor fire pit, and outdoor setting if you’d prefer to cook outside, or simply sit around it enjoying the ambience of being in nature. Wood for the fire pit will need to be brought in, or feel free to collect fallen wood from around the property. Please DO NOT cut down or deface any standing trees. A fantastic location for a girls or boys weekend, somewhere for the elders or non camping family members to stay, or for a weekend away with the family camping without actual camping!

It was really lovely! Lots of space to stay private. The river was beautiful and lovely for a dip. Lots of horses and alpacas. A fox walked around our camp at night. It was clean. Great long drop toilet. We met Damian, a really nice man who made us very welcome. I am glad we found this spot and will be back every year.

Banjos Run 4WD

What a beautiful place. Damien and Tammie have created the perfect space for you to make your camping experience your own. Banjos Run is set back from the river with a view over the water, nice flat grassed camping spots, fireplace and shade in the mornings if you set up near the huge gums. The camp sites are set a long way apart so you really have your own space and plenty of it so you're not camped on top of other people. The toilet is clean and only a short walk. The river easily accessible. Given how dry and hot it's been the area was well grassed and the friendly horses seemed content grazing. We met Damien and Tammie on arrival and during our stay and they are perfect hosts. The track down is 4x4 - my stock Patrol did it easily. I would expect anyone with any 4x4 experience wouldn't even baulk at it. We enjoyed a campfire, a little swimming and fishing. We had a great stay and will definitely be back!

We had the most amazing stay at Watton Airstrip! The property is absolutely beautiful, stunning river views, peaceful surrounds, and even though we accidentally booked during the Bathurst 12 Hour race weekend (when the property was fully booked), there was still so much space between campsites. It genuinely felt like we had our own private little slice of paradise on the river. We didn’t realise the track in was a proper 4WD track, but Damien gave us great advice and tips before we headed down. On the way out, we thought we’d done a wheel bearing on our caravan and Tammie and Damien went above and beyond. They had us park up at their house, jacked the van up, and helped us check it over. Absolutely stunning land, super friendly and helpful hosts, and just an all-round fantastic experience. We’re already talking about planning our next trip back! Highly recommend!!

Our second time staying but our first time down by the river. The Rapids is a lovely spot, but note that it is one of the furthest from the very cute toilet, but we would still certainly recommend it. The road down is definitely 4WD only. We have a newish VW campervan set up for off-road and managed it okay, but it is rocky so you need to pick your line. We can also recommend the homemade bread delivered to our door! Loved the ambience of the roaming horses and kangaroos.

Expect to be impressed, You can see the effort that Damien and Tammie have poured into the property, really well maintained, while remaining natural, sites have been selected with campers in mind, we arrived to a warm and friendly greeting, and everything we needed to to know to get to the site. Super helpful, fun track in, and out, a little more challenging after a night of rain, but still totally manageable, loved it, we will be back often.

The place is big with many different camp areas, Suitable for families. Not suitable for group of people without kids as sharp 10 PM is quiet time. The offroad track could be maintained and managed better by the owner. After all it's a private road and owner seems to have all machinery required. Overall suggesting to read every camp area description carefully and have it as plan B.

The drive down and back out is a bit hairy if you have a small SUV and are not much of a 4WD-er (like me) but it was worth it to enjoy the river frontage. I visited during the week when there were very few people around, very serene and still enough water in the mighty Wambuul (Macquarie) for a swim even after a dry spell.

I had a very bad experience at Watton Airstrip. The access road for several miles was rocky and full of stones, very bumpy with steep hills. The bottom of my car hit the rocks many times. Even though the ad says 4WD access, I honestly don’t think many 4WDs can safely make it. There is no maintenance, the hills are extremely steep, and it felt risky and dangerous — my car even started reversing backwards a couple of times while trying to climb. Also, the campsite was far from the toilet and in the middle of the bush with rocks and sharp weeds/sticky grass that cut up our legs. I don’t recommend going there, and I’m surprised no one mentioned these issues before.

The Nook - Spot 4 - 4WD only

Watton Airstrip is a great spot off the beaten track. With several campsites along the river with plenty of space in between each.. It was 37-41 when we were there, but we were easily able to escape the heat amongst the trees and in the water at the Nook. Great swimming and paddling at The Nook and the Deep Spot. We'd love to visit after lots of rain and see the river run higher and faster. We loved sharing the space with a miriad of animals, alpacas, horses, lizards and dragons, roos and Wallabies, dear over the river and we even spotted several platypus! Watch out for those cheeky horses though. They're always up for a treat of whatever they can steal. Keep your food secure or they be back for more. Spare ratchet straps are good fencing around your camp. Enjoy!

We arrived to find our allocated site was squeezed between two large groups, with no shade and absolutely no privacy. While the toilet itself was clean, for the price we paid toilet paper feels like a very basic expectation, and it was also quite a walk from our site. Access to the river spots is very steep and slippery. We were extremely glad we were in a rooftop tent and not towing our pop-top camper. I honestly wouldn’t want to attempt that drive while towing. The owners themselves were genuinely lovely, helpful, and tried to accommodate us by offering an alternative site. Unfortunately, that spot was far from both the river and the toilet and was right next to a locked gate, which meant semi-constant gate opening/closing and door banging as people came and went; not ideal if you’re seeking peace or privacy. As campers who value at least semi-private space and who usually camp in free, low-cost, or modestly priced but beautiful locations, we didn’t feel this stay offered value for money. Sadly, it’s not somewhere we would return to, far too expensive for what’s on offer.

3rd visit to Watton and it is still our favourite get away. A perfect get away and it gets better each time. Huge space on the river, wildlife galore including platypus, owls. deer, kangaroos and wallabies. We love the daily visits from the horses and come away feeling so refreshed.

We’ve had another amazing camping trip at Watton Air Strip. This is our third trip and second staying at Drovers Run. We have always found the camp sites to be well maintained and clean. We enjoy the additional privacy and elevation at Drovers Run which is why we selected this site for the second time. Drovers Run provides a great outlook and the river is only a quick walk away. Even though you are further away, you can still hear the rapids at night. Thanks Damien & Tammie for another amazing stay.
