Whether you're seeking relaxation or adventure, The Ranch on Clarence offers the perfect getaway. At The Ranch on Clarence, we’ve designed our campsites to feel truly exclusive, with each spot carefully situated to provide privacy and a sense of seclusion. Set up your self-contained tent or off-road caravan over looking the Clarence River and enjoy breathtaking views, from soaring cliffs to sandy beaches. Explore walking and mountain biking trails, spot platypus in the river, or unwind by peaceful rapids and swimming pools. For horse lovers, we offer personalized riding and equine experiences. Join a 1- or 2-hour River Ride, and if conditions are right, swim bareback with the horses in the river. For a unique thrill, hop aboard the Troopy Horse Safari and move with the herd as they gallop through the landscape. Beyond horses, there’s plenty to enjoy: swim, kayak, or fish in the refreshing waters, explore scenic trails on foot or bike, and relax by the campfire while stargazing under clear skies. Banner's Hill Campsite: Under the Sacred Iron Bark Nestled beneath a grand Iron Bark tree at the northern end of our property, Banner's Hill campsite offers sweeping open views and stunning starry night skies. This secluded and exclusive campsite is set approximately 200 meters back from the river, providing a peaceful retreat immersed in nature. The campsite is named after Banner, our gentle Clydesdale, who loves to relax under the Iron Bark’s shade. While the site is entirely yours, you share it with Banner and the rest of the herd, who like to spend their days and nights there to graze and hang out—Banner especially holds this spot dearest of all and spends much of his time there communing with the sacred Scar Tree. It is said that it took 4 Aboriginal men to cut the bark off for a canoe. Please be respectful of this sacred site. The campsite requires 4WD access and is available in dry weather only. Amenities Flush toilet: Located near the main Homestead. This unlevelled, rustic site offers a serene and unique camping experience by the Clarence River. Wow, words can not do justice the amazing time we had at the Ranch! The river views, the hospitality, the tranquility & the fire baths were just magical. Shanti has truly created a slice of heaven out there. For the icing on the cake, make sure to book the horse trek + swim.. i’ve done many treks in my life and this was the best. Plenty of trotting and cantering through stunning scenery, finished by a swim with the horses. Shanti’s way with horses is so special to witness, you can tell they love her as much as she loves them. We will be back, with friends in tow.

Shanti was extremely welcoming and kind. Sharing her beautiful property and very well loved and well kept horses with her guests. The camp site was peaceful though a little hard to access the river with little kids.

The bunk house was super comfortable, and the outdoor amenities were so serene. I absolutely loved my stay and will be back! Loved waking up and being able to greet the horses, ducks, chickens and lovely dogs.

Swan Lake is literally heaven! it’s one of my favourite places on earth. surrounded by Stunning views of the river, fire baths at your toes, immersed in bird song and nature! A short wander for that morning or arvo swim - you literally can’t go wrong. And if you love horses - you’re in for a treat! This is a very special place. Shhhhhh don’t tell anyone 😂

we loved staying at The Ranch on Clarence…. it was phenomenal- we stayed for my birthday and had the best time riding and enjoying the beautiful property. Shanti is the best host ever! Bunch house was cosy and clean and brimming with retro charm - the perfect escape.

We had a lovely, relaxing three night stay at The Ranch. The Swan Lake campground was nice and private down the bottom of the hill near the river. The fire baths were great and a perfect way to spend the late afternoon and watching the sunset. Definitely bring or arrange to purchase enough firewood to keep you going. The kids also enjoyed hunting for fireflies near the river in the evening. It was a bit of a hike to get to the toilet but it was nice to have this amenity. We booked the 2 hour horse ride including swimming the horses and Shanti and Phoenix did a really good job of leading the group and involving the kids as much as possible. Highly recommend including this optional extra as part of your stay. The midday checkout made for a more relaxing last morning too.

Shanti’s property is on a beautiful stretch of the wide and deep Clarence river. We swam in the river (which is clean and moves) and loved the outdoor baths at Swan Lake campsite, but staying anywhere on this expansive property would be delightful. The Troopie tour to round up the horses was fun and a great way to see more of the land. Shanti loves her land, livestock and dogs and this imbued the welcome in a positive way. It’s the perfect place to chill or be more active.

Amazing weekend spent at the ranch. The only problem was that we had to leave. We worried that photos of the bath tubs with a view would be a bit of instagram vs reality, but it was honestly better in person. Watching the sunset over the mountains, and seeing the sky filling with stars, all whilst relaxing in a bath that gets warmer the longer you are in was unbelievable! There is a reason Shanti is a star host, because she is the best. Made us feel so welcome and added so much to our time there. The troopy safari is a must. We were going to give it a miss but so glad we didn’t. Bouncing around in the troopy as Shanti calls for the horses was amazing to see, and we had smiles on our faces the whole time. And is a great way to get in horsey mood before going out for a ride. Shanti takes you on an amazing horseback tour of the grounds, and is great with all skill levels (we were 1 novice and 1 experienced) giving you tips along the way. Thank you Shanti for an amazing weekend! Can’t wait to see you again. Dickie and Katie

The Bunkhouse - Sleeps 9
I loved staying in the bunkhouse at The Ranch on Clarence. It's an amazing property with plenty of animals, breathtaking views, and plenty of places to walk on the property. Add to it that you are really close to Yates Crossings where you can 4wd, go for a swim, or even just go for a nice walk around. I would very highly recommend staying here.

WOW! What a magical place!!! From the minute I arrived, I knew I had reached the highlight of my 4 day camping tour! A beautiful drive south from the Bruxner Hwy between Casino and Tenterfield, run by a lovely woman called Shanti and her equally lovely husband. They have about 30 horses on their property and offer horse trekking (at additional cost). The site is on the land below their house, there are two bathtubs (lit by campfire underneath) overlooking the river with the most sensational sunset view. Outdoor shower available and toilet (with a proper flusher!!). Kayaks and Paddleboards available to use. Pros: Sentational views; peaceful; outdoor shower & toilet; campfire; easy access; bathtubs; firewood available (at extra charge); lovely female owner! Cons: Nothing! I could have stayed forever 😍 Thank you Shanti & Jingles ❣️

We booked in for a 2 night stay at the Ranch on Clarence. Shanti's communication was great and she was very accommodating. Unfortunately when we arrived at the property, it wasn't what we expected. It definitely wasn't camping on the river, as you had to go down a step hill to the water and there wasn't a safe and easy access to the water. Maybe it was just me, but as it was a ranch we expected to see alot more horses however they were all kept over at another property. We have stayed at other farm stays where the kids were able to feed, brush and interact with the horses but this place definitely was not like that. Firewood was also $20 a bag where we normally pay $10. We drove around to the crossing which was only minutes away and found beautiful free camping which was right on the river, with cows roaming and it was alot more kid safe. We had the most magical stay there instead and would definitely recommend. Unfortunately I do not believe this place is worth $150 a night and I wish other reviews reflected this.

A beautiful oasis, the serenity and the flowing river, hooves of ponies galloping through nature. Picture perfect! I loved it and my pups loved it even more. Got home … must have been fun as they slept all night and all day. Shanti is beautiful and a nice chat before I left. Highly recommended and definitely be back.

We loved staying in beddy blue at the Ranch. The whole experience was amazing, from turning up and being greeted by Jingles, 4 friendly dogs and a stallion, to staying in beddy blue which was super comfortable, to having a wood fired bath overlooking the river. Everything you need to have a relaxing stay was provided. We also added on a horse ride the following day which was outstanding. Shanti is very accommodating and easy to get along with, and we felt extremely comfortable on the horses she had picked out for us. We have mixed riding experience however the ride was exciting and enjoyable for both of us. We will definitely be back and look forward to doing so.

We loved our stay at the Ranch. The property is incredible! Anyone who wants a great experience with dogs and horses MUST visit (ensure to do the Safari, seeing the entire herd running together is just something else)! I could not have asked for a better way to celebrate my birthday weekend. Shanti is just the best host. Her horses and dogs are awesome (specially Mr Durango - I hope I am spelling his name correct), he was a delight and super fun to ride! Shanti well exceed our expectations in all aspects. I cannot wait to go back for more adventures and riding. Thank you xx

We booked a weekend at The Ranch for our daughter’s 10th birthday. She is a mad horse rider so was looking for lots of horse riding and time with horses! We had a fabulous weekend, and will definitely make plans to go back! Shanti was a wonderful and welcoming host, so knowledgeable and experienced with her beautiful horses. She catered to our unique needs as riders, matching us with a horse each to suit our experience. The troopy ride was thrilling, riding behind horses galloping in the wild was just the best! Shanti went out of her way to set up Beddy Blue for us and we loved the space, right on the river, fire bath at night, and private! She made us feel very welcome on her land and around her home. Thanks so much Shanti and see you again soon!

If you are reading this and thinking of booking – stop reading and book (with riding and the Troopy Safari)!! You won’t regret it. The experience Shanti and Jingles have created at The Ranch on Clarence is truly exceptional – beautiful stallions cruising around the homestead, and the stunning baths overlooking the Clarence that pictures just don't do it justice!! We’ve stayed at a ton of Hipcamps in our travels and this is by far our favourite – although I may be biased, as we were fortunate enough to pick this amazing spot to get engaged. The horse riding experience was also brilliant but the troopy safari is an absolute highlight that cant be missed! Shanti and Jingles were so amazing – they even popped a bottle of champers to celebrate! Again, if you are thinking of staying at the ranch, book it now! Shanti and Jingles, thank you for making our experience so unbelievably amazing!!

Swan Lake campsite was very private with a beautiful view over the hinterland mountains and no other people. Lots of space to spread out going with a family or friends. I loved that my dog could come along enjoy being free. The ceramic fire baths were an absolute treat at sunset! Would recommend to bring bubble bath and/ or epsom salts to soak and relax!! The flush toulet is of course a bonus. No other campers in site, very private. Romeo and Juliet campsite is a must for 2-4 people with the best views over the Clarence river and hinterland. Not ideal for dogs are there is a very steep fall.

We didn’t have the greatest experience if we’re being honest, we paid a fair bit of money to camp here at this site and the entry to the gate had grass that was over a metre high and rutted out. The owner who delivered us the firewood even said that he hasn’t been down to inspect site in over a month. The low track into the site was boggy and not suitable for our caravans, however we took the high track but this also wasn’t a very caravan suitable track. We didn’t have much space to manoeuvre around the trees without taking them out with the caravan. We understand this site was recommended for off road caravans only, however prior to booking we made a very detailed message explaining the size of our two caravans and the fact that they are only semi off-road with not as much capability as a full off-road van. The site itself wasn’t well maintained which was a little disappointing considering how long ago we booked with plenty of notice. The grass around the main part of camp was long in a majority of parts. We ended up flattening some of it with our mats. We spent $150 on firewood from the hipcamp as in the listing it says you’re not allowed to BYO and we were delivered with wet firewood that we could barely keep a light. We had to use our blower to dry it out. For the price we paid for a non-maintained off grid camp site we definitely expected it to be a bit more maintained.

The Bunkhouse - Sleeps 9
Shanti is a very welcoming host. The Bunkhouse is an experience on its own! Sleeps 9 pp, comfy matresses, a small fridge and an amazing covered outdoor seating area to enjoy a fire at night. Phantom, the stunning stallion, roams freely around the property. 3 hens, 1 roster and 5 friendly dogs complete the happy family. Other horses are across the road ready for a beautiful ride to the river, where you can get to swim with your horse. This is just an amazing adventure away from the croud, where kids (and big kids!) Can just relax and enjoy.

Swan Lake
This was our second stay at Swan Lake. It is a beautiful property where you feel very safe and looked after. Shanti took us on the troopy To muster up the horses and it was really amazing. The horses come galloping out of the bush to her 4wd! We did another trail ride and swam the horses in the river. A very special place and a very special woman with beautiful horses!
