Space, scenic views, a series of mountain bike tracks to test your skills, abundant wildlife, peace and quiet. Mountain biking only? Book a campsite for the day. These best describe this 754 hectare (1864 acres) property. Stonepine Ridge is 'remote' - your camp sites are away from any dwellings - but you are still close enough to country towns across borders. There is plenty of space for social distancing. Most camp sites are 50 or more metres apart. The terrain is mostly treed with some cleared, pastured country. On the border with the Queensland town of Stanthorpe, Stonepine Ridge is close to the historic areas of Willsons Downfall and Amosfield in New South Wales. Home to many rivers that traverse the property from top to bottom, the Boonoo Boonoo and Bookookookarara rivers and Undercliffe and Boonoo Boono Falls are close by and are popular sites to spend a few hours walking/hiking and immersing yourself in the ambient countryside. The Boonoo Boonoo and Bald rock National Parks are also within this area. The beautiful New England town of Tenterfield is about 20 minutes drive from the falls and offers visitors many shopping and restaurant options. Be sure to stop en route to visit the World War 2 tank traps - (Australia's Maginot Line) and Thunderbolt's hideout. A short drive across the border into Queensland will give you access to the Girraween National Park and a host of wineries, coffee shops, restaurants and pubs. This camping property is large and you will find no better place that allows for gentle as well as more advanced walking, hiking and mountain biking. The altitude on the property varies from 900m at the top down to 50m to the bottom. The temperature is variable with mostly cool nights, which makes for restful sleep and a nice fire to add to the ambience.

There are 3 campsites which are spread out along a ridge overlooking mountains.  Site 1 is the largest at 20m x 20m and is flat. The path beside this site must be kept free at all times for other campers to access the view further down the track, a good spot to watch the sunrise with a cup of something warm. Site 2 is 12m x 6 m is tucked in to the trees and is flat. Site 3 is 20m x 12m and is also tucked in to trees and is flat. Walking and mountain bike tracks are throughout the surrounding 200 or so acres of bush land. Vehicles that are long and without a good turning circle would be best in the long paddock nearby or in any of the other sites because the area is heavily treed. Perched on top of the Great Dividing Range, Rory's Lookout sites boast incredible views and promote genuine Australian bush camping. Wombats, Wedge-tailed Eagles and pretty-faced wallabies are just a few of the native species that frequent the area. Please only light fires in designated spots as the area is prone to bush fires when dry. Access to a bush toilet. Please note that this site and the property in general requires experienced 4wheel drivers in wet weather both for safety reasons and to help preserve the road. The road to the site is long and gets pretty rough in wet weather which can occur at any time on the ranges, not always following current weather predictions. If you only have access to a 2 wheel drive, please enquire re weather conditions. You may be lucky! Please do not come without enquiring if you are allowed.

A two vehicle site situated on a hill above the Bookookarara Creek, there are 6 campsites with views of the creek and loads of space to spread out.  Each site above creek can access the river in front of their site.  Camp fires and swimming etc down at the creek are allowed but due to safety concerns after successive floods, vehicles are not allowed at the creek bed. Composting toilet near by.

Long Paddock 4 wheel All W ONLY

This is, as the name indicates, a long paddock of open country to the west with big views, stunning sunsets and cattle grazing in the adjacent paddock.  To the north and east, your campsites are bounded by eucalyptus forest where you can explore the bush. A good area for large groups or combined groups. The long paddock is about 20 acres. Fallen timber may be cut and used for camp fires. Site 1 is closest to the entrance to the dam paddock. It is 25m x25m. Access to Sites 2 & 3 are indicated by a sign just after site 1. Please DO NOT access these sites over the dam wall. There is a sign reminding you of this. These are lovely more tucked in sites and are a little bit smaller than the other sites. Sites 4-9 are 30m x 30m. Each site has an extra grassy space between it and the next site which can be used if more space is required.

Eagle Point 4 Wheel All W ONLY

There are 4 Eagle Point Campsites and they are close to and have similar views to Rory's. Site 1 is 12m x12m and is best for small vehicles. Site 2 is 30m x 12m. Site 3 is 12m x 6m and is flat. There is a space opposite where you can leave your car so the camp space is bigger. Site 4 is 10 m x 12m and flat. These sites look west and are spread out along the bush looking into trees. Sunsets through the trees are beautiful and you can also see the rising sun to the east over the mountains. Campsites have access to beautiful views of the Australian bush. Wedge-tailed eagles, wallabies, kangaroos and other wildlife feed in the area. If your camper requires large turning circles I would recommend the long paddock close by or any of the other paddocks.  Eagle point and Rory's lookout sites are nested in and among trees and if the campsites are full, getting in and out with large campers can be a bit of a process which could disturb other campers.  Please only light fires in designated spots as the area is prone to bush fires when dry. Access to a bush toilet.

This is a quiet, secluded area of the Bookookarara paddock all to yourself. The retreat is bounded by a gully and tall gum trees on one side and opens out to the pasture on the other. There are 6 sites which are situated above a large dam in an open paddock with forests in the margins.  A very picturesque area where wildlife love to feed.  They are excellent sites for larger vehicles and are  ideal for children with a lot of energy and curiosity to explore the surrounding rock areas.  Good for campers with dogs also, if they like swimming. The creek is not far away which is accessible to all campers. Wide open skies so great for star gazing.

This large site is off the road and a bit tucked in among small trees. An open area looking across paddocks to the east and stunning sunsets to the west. There are granite rocks under the trees. We loved camping at Stonepine Ridge ‘where eagles fly’! Rory’s Lookout site #1 had amazing views with a secluded campsite, big firepit and easy access to the stunning lookout. Good toilet facilities that are easy to access and clean. The drive through the property was easy work for a 4WD and beautiful. The long paddock also looks like a great place to stay. We will be back!

We enjoyed our time at Stonepine Ridge. We had site 3 at Rory’s lookout, was a bit smaller than the other sites, but it enough for our small set up and it was worth it for the view and secluded area. Less than 100m walk to the amazing lookout for sunrise. The view left me in awe all weekend. Elizabeth, the host, was very welcoming and helpful when we had issues with our Hipcamp booking. Would love to return to this campsite

Stonepine Ridge was the perfect long weekend camping spot and Liz was a fantastic host. From well before we arrived until the morning we left, Liz was on hand to help make this the perfect camp trip. Before heading up she had already suggested a campsite based on our needs and was on hand to help us find the site on arrival. The property is large and much of it open to explore - we brought along a mountain bike riding an hour each day without doubling up on much ground. Just note it's a long drive in to the campsites, so don't stress if you're still cruising along after 10min - you're almost there! There's a great selection of campsites available, but Rory's easily has the best vista of them all! Some other sites offered really nice seclusion (we still only had 2 other groups ~30m away each though). The scenery is gorgeous and there's so much to see and do not only on the property (waking tracks, lookout, swimming hole) but only a half hour drive in any direction. Just note that you're high up in the northern Tablelands so the weather does its own thing - pack for cold any time of the year!

What an amazing place to camp, had a great time. Great views , plenty of walks, so peaceful and relaxing, the creek was very lovely to potter around, had friendly cows come visit a few times, lots of birds, echidna. Great place to go and unwind, plenty attractions near buy. Well worth staying. Normal SUV can access the creek sites in dry weather (we had 4wd so much easier).

Stonepine Ridge is a beautiful property in stunning granite country. The sites are large and varied and offer long views or secluded bush settings. Access and navigation was straightforward (respecting farm gates) and the drive in on Mount Lindsay Road from the south was beautiful. Liz was a great host and very responsive. Excellent quality fire wood is good value, but bring a decent axe to break it down for open fire use. Highly recommended.

We loved camping at Stonepine ridge. Elizabeth was so kind and helpful. Our kids and pooch loved the open space and the different parts of the property to discover. A place you could just simply stay or a place to use as a base for other adventures. We will be back again in summer!

Wow! What a place! We stayed at the creek view site and were greeted by a flock of crimson rosellas and pink gallahs! Although woken by some nosey cows we enjoyed every moment of our stay, would highly recommend the creek view spot! We also saw a platypus in the creek before we left!

Great location near the creek. Lots of space between campsites. Toilet close by. The view from the lookout is stunning and loved the granite boulders and creek at the gorge. Fantastic place to getaway from the rat race.

We loved our weekend at Stonepine Ridge! A beautiful property with plenty of space in each camp area. You were well secluded from other campers. A fantastic spot to explore many of the close by bish walk/hikes etc. With tenterfield and stanthorpe close by. Elizabeth was a great host!

Stonepine Ridge is a stunning property, and the creekside campsite was absolutely gorgeous. We loved our little meander down to the creek, rock-hopping as far as we could—it was such a peaceful spot. We ended up booking an extra night and had the whole place to ourselves, which made it even more special. Liz is so welcoming and has done an amazing job setting up this campground. Highly recommend! Even though it rained and the leeches tried to eat us alive (kidding—they didn’t win, we were vigilant and escaped unscathed!), we had an incredible stay.

The whole camping area is full of leeches on the grass. Coming inside your tent and car as soon as you arrive. We moved to different spots very far away from each other but those were literally everywhere

Even though the weather was not perfect for our stay at Stonepine Ridge I will certainly be returning soon and would recommend the property to anybody who wants to get away for the weekend and enjoy this beautiful area.

Great campsite, we had bad weather which can't be helped. Being up in the clouds was kinda fun too for something different though. I have been here in better weather and it can truly be an amazing spot with a sunset. Will be back again, definitely recommend.

Very beautiful spot to camp and enjoy the views. Nicely located to do the hikes in the surrounding national parks. Unfortunately, due to the weather we were not able to walk the trails on the property but will do next time. We enjoyed our stay at Stonepine Ridge. We booked for Rory's Lookout and spent our first night there. The site itself is great, but the weather was against us and we had a lot of wind through the night. Elizabeth was very accommodating and allowed us to move sites the next day, to a more protected position and we had a lovely, relaxing night there. Wish we could have stayed longer.
