Tucked in the picturesque Wollombi Valley, Rocky Forest Bush Retreat offers a memorable escape into nature. Whether you’re looking to unwind, hike through lush bushland, explore striking rock features, or immerse yourself in native flora and fauna, our property promises peace and beauty. As a secluded, off-the-grid destination, Rocky Forest doesn’t have a traditional street address—so be ready for a bit of adventure finding us! Full directions will be provided upon booking, with fun landmarks to look out for along the way. The property is just 15 minutes from the Wollombi Tavern, and the gorgeous scenic drive adds to the experience. The property is home to a variety of native wildlife, including kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, koalas, and even rare quolls. Birdwatchers can look for the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater, and see resident king parrots, lyre birds, kookaburras, and black cockatoos. Explore nearby caves and rock features, hike the fire trail for stunning views, or take on local 4WD tracks. We are only a short drive away from the Historical township of Wollombi, The Finchley Aboriginal Area- a culturally significant site rich in Indigenous history, and the Hunter Valley Vineyards, Distilleries and incredible restaurants- all less than an hour away if you want to explore the Hunter. Or alternatively- we have stunning views in abundance & offer peaceful seclusion -with a few special places to sit & appreciate the beauty of the bush- if you’re here to unwind & recharge Please note: This is a 4WD property only. Guests are welcome to explore the entire property, and Ben and Jaz are happy to guide you to special spots.

Our stay at Rocky Retreat with Jaz and Ben was nothing short of magical. The place truly feels like a little piece of heaven, a serene escape where you can rest from the worries of the big world. Surrounded by amazing nature and abundant wildlife, it’s the perfect spot to reconnect with peace and beauty. The facilities are excellent, providing everything you might need, and the hosts, Jaz and Ben, are incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive. We left feeling refreshed and very grateful!

Highly recommend this place, far away from any noise apart from the creatures at night. We had got here after some rain and probably would need a 4WD to get to site but the track in is fun! Had a chat with Ben who's a top bloke, who came down to check if everything was alright.

Camper trailer / rooftop tent. We really enjoyed our camping weekend at Rocky Forest. Jaz and Ben are wonderful hosts, making us feel welcome to set up and explore their place (with some directions and secret must-see places nearby). Ben even rescued our hot water set up for our second night of off-grid camping. Lucky there was the ensuite in the cabin to use on the first night. Great communication from booking through to instructions on how to get there and during our stay. Highly recommended for groups, couples, families, anyone who wants a truly bush camping experience but with creature comforts.

Rocky Forest Retreat was a great place to camp - we had the whole site to ourselves and it was nice having the cabin nearby for the bathroom and sink for cleanup. It was our first time camping and it was a great place to relax and get away from the city. The drive to the campsite was a little tough (first time really utilising our 4wd setting) but it’s mainly a clearance thing. So if you have a car with good suspension it wouldn’t be too tricky and if you have done it before. We made it so I’m sure everyone can. Jaz and Ben are also really nice and they have some goats you can give your scraps too. They also have a few hiking trails. I’d recommend this camp site to people if they wanted to get away from the city but not have to drive so far!

The views were beautiful , we had a big open space so kids can run around. Cabin on site was great as there was a toilet shower TV and lots of movies to choose and watch at night which gave parents a chance to relax make sure you do have a 4wd as some spots are a bit bumpy and tricky with small cars as we had experienced there is also a hiking trail that leads you to the top with great views the drive in has great views which bring you to the secluded area mornings are interesting with the different sounds of wildlife and the goats are a hit with the kids watch out for big lizards but the kids loved it

Great property with plenty for nature lovers. Campsite was pristine, and access to the cabin for toilet and shower was very handy. Ben and Jaz are awesome hosts, who are professional and very welcoming. Definitely recommend a 4wd to access the property. Perfect location for a camping getaway.

We had a great weekend at Rocky Forest! The road in was tougher than we expected but both cars were 4WD so all good. It was so convenient having a kitchen bathroom to use! The spot is really beautiful and they even made sure we had dry firewood after it rained. One thing to note also there was no phone reception which we really enjoyed!

Thanks Ben and Jaz for sharing your gorgeous property. The land is amazing for young families, with lots to explore …. Good trails for the kids to explore on their bikes and felt like we were miles away from anyone. Would highly recommend

This was a great camping spot for two families with young kids. The drive in is adventurous (no 2wd) and once at the campsite there is plenty of spots to camp and the cabin provides contains all the essentials which made the weekend a little bit more comfortable. Jaz and Ben are very hospitable and recommended a walk nearby to see caves which the kids loved. We saw wombats, kangaroos and goats.

Jaz and Ben were incredibly welcoming and helpful. The land is lovely, and the cabin was really helpful for us as it was raining all weekend, so it was nice to have a break from the rain and have the ability to cook inside. Bush walking from the site was great, it's an incredible area. The AWD in the group was fine getting in and out, but we foolishly had some 2WD cars which struggled a lot. I would only recommend AWD or 4WD (this was our own fault, as we didn't read the description properly). Overall, it's a great place for groups as there is plenty of space and is very beautiful.
