Welcome to Rainforest Hideaway. Our ten-acre property blends rainforest edges with an orchard of citrus, tropical fruit and coffee, plus a shady pecan grove. Choose from two tent-only sites or settle into the Orchard Retreat Van, a modern stay with all the comforts for a couple. Families are welcome to pitch an extra kids’ tent beside the van if booked together. • Pecan Platform Tent Site - Under the pecans with a timber platform for a level, dry pitch and a large designated fire ring. • Pecan Meadow Tent Site - Level grass under the pecans with its own designated fire ring. • Orchard Retreat Van - Modern, permanently set up in a private nook of the orchard. Hot shower and toilet, power and water, fridge/freezer, gas cooktop, sink, basic cookware, and a comfy made queen bed. Access: 2WD in normal dry conditions. After heavy rain, AWD/4WD is recommended. Park and walk a short path to tent sites. The Orchard Retreat Van has direct vehicle access. Pets: Welcome on our property. Fires: In designated fire rings only and only when local rules allow. Leave No Trace: Please take all rubbish with you. Nearby highlights • Whian Whian Falls - 2 min - easy access to clear swimming holes and a beautiful rock ledge waterfall. • Rocky Creek Dam - 12–15 min - peaceful boardwalks and signed rainforest walks with great picnic spots. • Big Scrub Loop, Nightcap National Park - 15–20 min - a gentle circuit through lush subtropical rainforest with towering figs and birdlife. • Minyon Falls - 25–30 min - dramatic falls and lookouts with sweeping valley views, plus longer rainforest walks. • Dunoon Village - 5 min - essentials and an easy meal at the community-run sports club. • The Channon Village - 15–20 min - classic country pub with great food and the famous Channon Craft Market on the second Sunday each month.

Orchard Retreat Van

A modern, permanently set-up caravan (Nomadic Norca 16) tucked in a private nook of the orchard among citrus, tropical fruits and coffee trees. Inside is a comfy made queen bed with quality linen, your own shower and toilet, power and water, a fridge and freezer, gas cooktop, sink and basic cookware. Fans and air-conditioning keep things comfortable on warm days. It’s an easy, cosy base for a couple, with room beside the van to pitch a kids tent. Evenings are best spent under the trees around your designated fire ring. Great secluded spot to unwind in nature. Lots of trees for shade from harsh summer sun but still plenty of light and super close to a beautiful waterfall. Plenty of space to set up camp and different areas for camp-fires. The steep track down *may* be difficult for some 2wds but managed I fine in my 2wd rav4 in dry conditions.

Steve is an amazing host who would go above and beyond for you. Absolutely worth a visit to this camp site. The night sky was beyond beautiful and the campus site is amazing.

It was a beautiful spot - agree with others a bit tricky to find especially in the dark but we walked down before driving. It was dry and we were completely fine in our 4WD Nissan x trail. Felt extremely private, huge bit of land. Only downside was that there weren’t really any flat areas. However, was very beautiful. We saw wallabies in the morning. Overall a great stay!

Loved our camping weekend at fireside campsite. Steve was a great host and very welcoming on arrival, the area was well maintained, had ample space on the property, steep short hill but our 4x4 had no troubles going up and down. Our dog loved the open space. We will definitely be returning

Steve was a lovely host very friendly and welcoming upon arrival. Beautiful location and very well maintained property. Access getting in was fine however getting out in the wet can be a little tricky with a step ascent in the mud. Fortunately we could be towed out by a lovely neighbour and it was part of the adventure. Highly recommend for families with loads of room for little ones to run around. Great spot!

Quiet spot. I suggest arriving during the day as I had trouble finding the entrance in the dark and was unable to contact the property owner.

We had a wonderful night staying here, the area is wonderful, the property was really peaceful and well maintained. Steve was super friendly and it was truly a pleasure camping on the property. Heeeeaps of wildlife mainly wallabies around. The waterfall just down the road is breathtaking and a wonderful place for a swim. My only note is the drive down the hill is rather steep and probably not suitable for larger sized vehicles or if it is even slightly wet. Thankyou for having us

We had a wonderful weekend at this campsite nestled among the trees. There's plenty of space for multiple tents and cars. However, accessing the site can be challenging as it's quite steep. During rainy weather, only 4WD vehicles can navigate the slope. Fortunately, we had sunny weather, so our vans and small cars managed just fine. There are a few flat spots available, though not entirely level. The site is alive with birdlife and occasional wallabies from neighboring properties. Steve, the host, was welcoming and had a campfire ready upon our late arrival. There's also plenty of wood available on the properties for the fire. Additionally, there are some lovely orange and lemon trees on the property where you can pick a few fruits. What sets this site apart is its privacy. There's only one large camping area, ensuring you have it all to yourself. The main house is uphill, keeping it private and serene. Nearby Whian Whian Falls offers a refreshing river dip just a 5-minute drive away.

The perfect escape! Got caught in wicked traffic coming from Bris so arrived late, Steve kindly had the fire ready and roaring for our arrival. We greatly enjoyed our time soaking up the beautiful energy Whian Whian had to offer from Steve's land. What a magical pocket of the world.

We return from 6 nights away in Bundjalung land, Whian Whian...a gem of the Byron Hinterland. Over dinner on our 2nd night Grace commented on how it felt just like home...after so many camping trips the kids really do appreciate that home isn't a place, it's a feeling when we're all together doing what we love, with who we love. As our 12th trip away for 2023, it served a perfect transition from one year of adventures into the next. Real, raw, exciting, muddy, unpredictable. It wasn't all joy (storms, times of unrelenting rain), but it was an absolute grand finale. Steve was a excellent host very accommodating and just a real down to earth guy. Will definitely love to come back. I especially liked the rare bioluminescent fungi we spotted in the middle of camp. The atmosphere there is awe inspiring.

Amazing!!! Every time we pick a site they just keep getting better. This one really knocked our socks off. It was serene, VERY private, and so much space to explore. Beautiful ground cover of violets everywhere and plenty of wood for the fire. We 100% will be back sooner rather than later. Also Steve was a huge vibe! Seemed like a very fun and friendly host. He guided us down to the camp site and then left us to enjoy.

Such a peaceful location. Waking only to the sounds of birds was heavenly. A great single campsite location. Also being able to just walk out the property and along a quiet country road through picturesque bush and farmland was a bonus. Lovely host big recommend for this one.

Great campsite, very nice location and beautiful property. The generous addition of being allowed to walk through the rainforest-esqe section and pick up fallen branches for firewood added to the experience. There is a steep hill to get to the campsite which I wasn't game to take our hire van down though.

Absolutely amazing. Steve greeted us upon arrival (on New Year’s Eve) and showed us around. The location is amazing, quiet and surrounded by beautiful nature. If your car is not 4WD you can park on the top and walk down or camp on the top as well so there’s different options. We were a group of 10, we had the place for ourselves, and it was just wonderful. We even saw bioluminescent fungi. Will come back and 100% recommend. Little reminder: Would recommend to bring closed shoes & some type of repellent.
