I was really hoping for Jila to be amazing, but we have left with mixed feelings. So much of this place is good, just not great as you would expect paying $50 per head per night. Amazing location just on the outskirts of Sydney. The drive down to the camp from the road was fun in a 4wd however I don't think I'd like to tackle it in a 2wd especially in the wet. The property is huge with heaps of space, but not a great deal of the space is level to set up your camp. I would imagine during peak times finding flat ground would get tricky so get in early! Flushing toilets were clean and in good order and had toilet paper! The ability to have a camp fire is always amazing however I would BYO firewood, lots of little kindling bits around but nothing substantial in size. Yes there are cows on the property, yes there is cow poo around, yes there are flies. Yes we are in Australia - this happens! The kayaks available for use are a nice option, the flooring in the storage shed is in a bad way so be careful! The river is spectacular, but only accessible after navigating your way over or under an electric fence and then down a bit of a steep embankment. I will also note during our stay there was some kind of construction noise during the day and a few big trucks coming and going. If you are looking for peace and solitude, this is definitely not the camp for you. In all, not a horrible stay, just not as great as I had hoped given the $$$. Appreciate the host opening their property to us.

5 stars for the stunning setting (beautiful river with clear water, sandy bottom, big gum trees and various birdlife) and for the proximity to Sydney. 2.5 stars for the camping facilities: the electric fence (for cows in the next door property) wasn't turned off until a few hours after our arrival for the long weekend, and there were a lot of cow dung patties and attendant flies. Nice to have flushing toilets with toilet paper but these had no lights to see in them, a few broken locks and no vacant/occupied signs on the outside. There were very few kayaks and paddles but this wasn't advertised so we hadn't brought alternatives. No firewood though that was promised. And as other reviewers experienced, falling tree branches including green leafed ones (ie not just dead branches you could check for before setting up tents). We had a lovely time on a hot summer weekend, with kids and adults hanging out in the river most of the day. But for the price, it would be good if these things could be sorted. Overall, still recommend as a great nearby camping option, but come prepared.

Overall we had a good time as our first camping experience as a family. We had a toddler so found the big ditch/ stone drop for the fire pit a bit stressful & couldn't relax. Was also a bit annoyed that we had no running water from around 4-7pm in the toilets & showers as water had been diverted to the water slide. Advanced notice would have been appreciated, it was a hot day & desperate for a shower! When the water came back on it was a mad rush for everyone to get in so had to wait a while. I appreciated the communal stove & BBQ, and pleasantly surpirsed by the toilet and shower facilities, which were clean, included soap and loo roll! I'd be hesitant to go back again purely based on the price.

Beautiful location, great bush and river to look over and enjoy, night sky was spectacular, fires allow and flushing loos for the win. This part of the trip = perfection. Not far from town to pick up supplies if and as needed. Resident cows are lovely to look at, they come with the waste a cow creates meaning we needed to shovel poop in order to set up camp. I didn't have herding cows on my camping to do list but found it important part of the trip when they started to nibble guy lines. The flys attracted to their waste also meant an increase of flys around camp. Also worth noting is the short drive to camp was doable in a 2WD but would have been better in an all wheel or 4WD.

We stayed again over the Australia Day Long Weekend. We were in a group of 7 adults, one child, and 2 dogs. Had a lovely stay, and it was great to be next to the water to cool off on such a hot weekend.

A great campsite with the fresh, clear water river just there. Flushable toilets and the choice to have a campfire were a big plus. The road into the campsite was a little tricky for 2WD and our friend's RV

We had the best long weekend at Jila Campground. The river was amazing, the kids could explore and swim for hours. Lovely shady camping areas. Loo’s were kept clean and there were taps and washing up stations throughout the campground. Thank you Phil, we’ll be back.

River Unreal, camp grounds good. Plenty of fly's but guess what, your camping. Can completely understand the no music after 9:00 Some tosser (another camper) asked me to turn the music down at 7:45pm and in all reality it wasn't loud, one little speaker, on an Australia Day long weekend FFS Ive camped from Cape York to the VIC High Country in closer quarters than last night and NEVER been asked to turn music down, I'd love to see that bloke at Talbotville or the Lions Den on a busy night LOL Would I go back? Absolutely but I''d make sure it was in the middle of Winter to scare off those who are a little precious.

Great camp area with lots of space. Unlike some camp grounds, we were not crammed right next to other people. We had lots of room and good privacy. Kids loved being down at the river and using the kayaks. Bring a shovel to clear the cow poo away from your camp area and get in early to find a level spot. Bring your own toilet paper as they had none for the first two days that we were there. Good spot - I will come back.

We loved tent camping at Jila. Our 3 young kids loved playing in the river and we had a beautiful site amongst the gum trees. Was very family friendly the days we were there. Toilets were extremely clean and the area was very peaceful. We'll definitely be back.

Absolutely loved it, so did the kids. Mini 4WD track, fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating. We loved waking up with cows and sheep surrounding us. Haha. Definitely my new 'go to' camping spot. 💜

Perfect campground for our family with younger kids. The host set up a big water slide and the river was calm and shallow for the kids to swim. The campground was big, so although there were others there was the privacy of your own spot. Plenty to pick from. Would definitely recommend!

It was a great place, lots of spaces to choose, toilets are ok for a campsite. Many fireplaces to choose from. Lots of available river water pumped. After asking for permission Phil even allowed us to stay a few extra hours after packing up and checking out, which meant we go go for a swim

The place has so much potential and with a bit of love it could be fantastic. Unfortunately I woke up at 7 and high tailed it out of there (in account of the flys) Positives! -Close to shops -swim spot accessible -host had good communication and seemed like a nice person. Negatives -I was swapped by flys ( I couldn't sit outside my van, further more about 20 ended up getting in despite my bug net.. was a serious mission to get them out 😂) -cow dung everywhere -toilets not great -everything was a bit unkept upon entry It's just too expensive for what you're getting. Again the place could be fabulous if it had some TLC.

We have come back from an awesome couple of days at Jila Campground. Super location which is made incredible by being situated by the river. We spent most of our day floating up and down the slow moving river, watching the kids jump in and splash about. There were many (10) kids Kayaks down at the river for everyone to use. We had an absolute blast. There are a few negative comments on here regarding the driveway and cow pats. Personally I would take them with a pinch of salt, neither were a problem for us. We will definitely be back, bringing more friends to introduce them to Jila!!
