Jalum is one of those places that makes you slow down without even trying. Just 30 minutes from Byron and about an hour from Surfers, but it feels like you’re a world away. Proper undulating farmland, quiet, open space, farm animals wandering freely, and the friendliest horses you’ll ever meet.
Wildlife everywhere: birds, insects, all the little sounds of nature that remind you you’re not in the city anymore. It’s peaceful in a way that’s hard to explain.
Karen is genuinely one of the best hosts we’ve ever had. She made us feel like we were staying at grandma’s house, warm, attentive, easy to talk to, and thoughtful in the small details. The homemade lemon cake she gave us? Unreal. Still thinking about it.
The suite was spotless and very private. We had our own space the entire weekend. We brought our cats — they’re full indoor apartment cats, so at first every bird noise had them on high alert 😅 but they eventually settled in and enjoyed the change of scenery.
It rained most of the weekend, but honestly, the place is so cosy that we didn’t miss the sun at all. I can easily see families with kids loving it here too.
Absolute gem of a place. Thanks again for the chats and for opening your home to us, Karen. We’ll definitely be back.
