Tucked deep in the Byron hinterland in Upper Coopers Creek, this private camping retreat offers an immersive escape into one of Northern NSW’s most beautiful valleys. Guests enjoy private access to Coopers Creek, with gentle mini rapids, and shaded swimming holes perfect for freshwater dips all year round. The campsite sits on a grassy clearing next to our shed with sweeping valley views. Mornings often arrive wrapped in mist, while evenings bring golden light rolling across the hills. Wallabies graze at dusk, and if you’re lucky, you may spot a platypus gliding quietly through the water at sunset. Up the slope from the campsite you can wander through the old macadamia orchard and explore pockets of endangered subtropical rainforest. Despite its peaceful seclusion, you’re just 15 minutes from Federal, 30 minutes from Mullumbimby, and a scenic 50-minute drive from Byron Bay, making it the perfect base to explore the region before retreating back to your own private slice of rainforest. Access is easy via a locked gate and short private driveway, ensuring both convenience and privacy during your stay. Next to the campsite is a shed with a verandah that can offer shelter if needed, but the interior will be locked. Wallabies often graze nearby, birdlife is abundant, and the peaceful rhythm of the valley makes it easy to slow down and settle in. Please note: this is an off-grid, self-contained campsite. There is currently no electricity, water, or amenities on site. Guests will need to bring everything required for their stay, take all waste with them, and leave no trace so this special environment remains pristine for future visitors.

Coopers Creek Valley Campsite
We stayed three nights at Coopers Creek Valley Campsite. It is ideally located to explore Nightcap national park and the Minyon Falls are only a short drive away. The campsite has a large flat area and a nice view into the valley and access to the Upper Coopers creek. Since there is only one campsite it is very private and quiet and good for birdwatching. There is very little light pollution at night and since we had clear skies it was ideal for stargazing. The small fire pit came in handy for cooking outdoors. Overall, a great place to relax for a few days if you are a self-sufficient camper.

Coopers Creek Valley Campsite
Beautiful part of the country in a lush rainforest. We had constant rain and wind over the weekend but it was bearable with the use of the undercover deck on the shed. Very grateful for that. The creek was full and flowing. The road in is a little narrow and sloppy in the wet but if you take it slow it’s fine. Communication from Clare is excellent. Will have to go back when the weather is nice 😊

Coopers Creek Valley Campsite
We spent a relaxing weekend here. Love the property and the location close the Minyon Falls area. Communication from the host was prompt and Clare shared detailed arrival information. Access road is as described a bit bumpy and narrow. Just take it slowly and it will be fine. We towed our 19ft van and had enough space to turn around. Thank you for sharing your lovely property with us!

Coopers Creek Valley Campsite
We really enjoyed our time at Hideaway creek. Firstly, the camping area next to the shed was large enough for us to completely turn our caravan around which made coming and going incredibly convenient. The it was very peaceful and there were great views the down the valley and across the mountains. The walk down to the creek was a little steep but my 7 year old daughter and 71 year old mother both managed it so it’s not too bad. The kids loved playing in the creek, making rock dams etc. Having use of the under cover area in front of the shed was super handy as it was a bit rainy during our stay and it offed a large dry area for the kids to play. The site is only a 10 minute drive to Minyon Falls and 17 minutes to a wonderful cafe in Federal. The hosts were very responsive to any enquiries we had. It’s a great base to explore the Northern Rivers area.

Coopers Creek Valley Campsite
Situated in a lush peaceful valley There is plenty of level ground next to their shed for set ups. So nice to have the campsite to ourselves and that it was dog friendly. Lovely afternoon sun and dreamy Creek to swim in. Trek to the creek is a little steep but doable just take it slow definitely worth going for a dip. I’ve never seen so many flocks of birds in my life was truely so nice to be up there.
