Frog Hollow Rainforest Camping

We loved our time at frog hollow. We booked last minute and stayed for 2 nights. We accessed the campsite with a 2wd and didn’t have any issues but the water level was low so best to confirm with the host before attempting the road in is gravel and had a few pot holes. We were fine but I think it would be less scary in an 4WD 😂 Although we never met the host in person he was super helpful and responded to our messages he sent through google pins and locations of local spots to check out. We stayed here with our dog and loved the use of the free canoe, kayaks and tyre tubes. At night we saw lots of micro bats flying over. Lyre birds, plenty of black cockatoos. Highly recommend staying here! The river was great for swimming and perfect to cool off after a big day exploring. Check out battery falls and the big tallow tree on the way down. Cheers can’t wait to go back!

We loved Arne’s Hipcamp. We had Site 2. It was private and close to the river for tubing/kayaking. Camp was easy to find. Arne sent through details to get to Battery Falls. An easy addition to our afternoon and so worth it. Eco toilet an absolute bonus. It didn’t stink! We would absolutely return, and recommend to others.

4WD camper trailer - loved it!!!

Beautiful spot beneath some trees, a little bit challenging with turning and levelling a trailer but doable. If you need solar this spot will be challenging because of the awesome trees. Absolutely immersive and spectacular. The day we were there the loo needed some dry material as it was a little on the stink but very clean and nice. Just off the causeway is a magic spot to sit with your beer.

Pristine forest camp next to river

My Canadian friend and I had a three day stay at this special place and loved every moment. The setting is inside a huge unlogged property that has been left untouched for over 120 years. We had the privilege of seeing some huge trees, one was a tallowood approximately 300 years old.. a rare specimen in our heavily logged forests. The other special trees were Antartic beeches remnants of the Godwana period and could possibly be 500 plus years. Arne the owner of the property was so friendly and passionate about his surroundings that he readily showed us where these special trees were. He was the perfect host and made everyone feel welcome. The bobo river was only metres from our campsite and Arne supplied tubes and kayaks for all to explore this beautiful waterway. We feel very privileged to have stayed at this Hipcamp and would highly recommend it to everyone. My 2wd Toyota campervan handled the gravel roads well and we had a lovely campsite that was mostly level. Thanks again.

Arne is a great host, accommodating and very friendly. beautiful campsite, tall trees and just magical. Toilets were clean although it was a long drop. Water Crossing can easily be done for 2WD. No insects or mozzies. Really enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back.

Bobo River Site 3

Arne's place is bliss. We all had the best time, with the kayaking up the beautiful creek, or swimming. Walks through the lovely rain forest. It's a place to catch your breath.

This is one of the most stunning properties I have ever visited in Northern NSW. If you want to get a feel for what this are would have been like pre-settlement, then this is the place for you. Because it is part of the NSW biodiversity conservation trust I had pretty high expectations, but Frog Hollow still blew us away! It is such a well functioning and clean rainforest ecosystem. Floating along the river on a tube, following the path of a busy Azure Kingfisher was a winner for me. Fireflies were my partners standout, that and the creek entrance down from camp 2, it’s a pretty amazing place. The facilities are wonderfully basic, a clean long drop for a toilet and not much else than a fire pit or two. The campsites are generous and well planned and there are some hand tools that you might have forgotten to help setup camp - and an abundance of tubes and kayaks to float on. Arne is a great host and his enthusiasm as a caretaker for this piece of land is fantastic- he made us feel so welcome. He has kindly offered to take us on a tour of the property next visit, which includes a visit to a proper forest giant - we cannot wait! I will definitely be back, next time for a longer stay.

Hidden Gem by the Bobo River

Great spot by the river, we took our dogs on a kayak down the river and they loved it 😁Cleanest composting toilet I've ever seen! Arne gave us plenty of time to settle in after our arrival time before coming down for a quick check-in and home-grown spinach delivery. The spot is close to Battery falls, and nested in beautiful forest which he gave us a brief history of. It felt secluded enough, but we had a good chat with some locals by the river who'd spotted a platypus not 20m from the road crossing! The fireflies surrounding the camp were pretty magical too. Would recommend 🌞

Amazing Campsite, Great Host!

I set out in a Honda Jazz and was very impressed with how easy the site was to access. Most of the roads leading to the site are sealed with only the last few kilometres being dirt road. The sites were easy to set up camp on, spacious and were well shaded by the canopy of the rainforest. We stayed on site 4 which was closest to the toilet, but one of the furthest from the river entrance near site 2. The river was lovely, but a touch chilly in October. The water was clean and full of fish, tadpoles and turtles. Arne supplied tubes and paddles which was great for getting some sun in the arvo. Arne was an incredible host, stopping for a chat every day and to check on our firewood supplies ($10 for a very generous bag). We ended up doing some site shuffling with some of the other people from our group and he was more than accommodating with us. On one of the days of our trip, we went to see Battery falls. The Jazz was able to make the 15-minute drive quite easily, with a small assist needed to cross one water redirector. Arne shared a pin for us to a spot we could park and hike about 300m to the top of the waterfall. The hike was steep, but manageable and the waterfall was amazing to swim under, once you scaled the rocks to the base. When we went looking for wildlife, we had the opportunity of seeing many species, including the Giant Barred Frog, Long-nosed Bandicoot, Black Snakes, Skinks, and Quails. Overall I rate Frog Hollow on Bobo River a must-do for your next camp

We loved camping here! We chose site 2 which is a bit off the main track and it felt very private. Very short walk through the bush down to the creek. The fire pit and table were great additions and it was awesome to bring our dog. The water was freezing but would be wonderful in Summer. Highly recommend!!
