It’s a nice site, surrounded by bush. The location is great, an hour to Sydney CBD and an hour to the Blue Mountains, with Richmond only about 10-15 minutes away.
I was a little uncomfortable as I was there on my own in the beginning and didn’t know where the night time noises came from and if I was safe. It was better after I spoke with the owner who came to clean the toilets, who said it is private even though hikers may use it on occasion to and from the National park. And that the gate was mostly closed.
The track to access the site is pretty gnarly, especially towing an on road caravan. Until the track is improved I would not recommend on road caravans to go there, if I had known the access track was that bad I wouldn’t have booked this spot. I did a bit of damage to the caravan on the way out and the side wall of my car tyre was also damaged. You really need a fair bit of clearance to get there, so smaller 2wd cars also wouldn’t be suitable.
The ants were pretty horrific, my poor dog was unable to lie down in the grass as she was bitten constantly.
I found the gate unlocked several times which made me feel unsure whether it was safe to leave my caravan for the day to go exploring.
I think with a little bit of effort on the access, and maybe a personal greeting by the owners or even a sign explaining privacy, hikers, National park track etc, and a slightly wider gate for access, which is really secured at all times, it would be a much better place to stay.
