Our story starts in Far North Queensland, when a german backpacker, me :), met an Aussie fisherman, Craig. To cut the long story short, after living together in Germany we decided to move back to Australia. We had a vision, trying to find our perfect place to live. Starting out with a car, a camper trailer and two bags we travelled from North Queensland down to Tasmania. Looking for a place to live. On our way through Tumbarumba everything started to unfold and we fell in love with our property. The feel, the experience and the climate. This was it! We've found our perfect place and finally named it "Creal's Rest" which has two meanings for us. Obviously from our name, but also from "creel" which is a wicker basket usually used for carrying fish. Escape the hustle bustle of life on our 10 acres alpaca life style farm which is nestled between beautiful hills and grazing properties on Walteela Road in Mannus (20 min drive to Tumbarumba). Walteela means "Place of Peace" and that is what you might be looking for. No traffic waking you. Listen to the sounds of nature instead... Enjoy the peacefulness, local wildlife (kookaburras, echidnas, wombats, kangaroos, etc.), small creek, stunning mountain views and dark skies for star gazing. Birdwatchers... you'll love it! Love fishing? Enjoy a chat with Craig, who has been a pro line fisherman for 18 years in the GBR! He loves to explore, show off the local fishing spots and a chat about all things fishing! Mannus Creek is only a couple of min drive away and Mannus Lake 15-20 min drive. Hand feed our friendly alpacas, greet our pet chickens and find some eggs. Ask us for some fresh herbs from our garden if you like cooking with a little extra  flavour or use them to enjoy a herbal tea.  Heard of "Swedish Torch" yet? An amazing way of having a campfire, that burns for hours. Cook on it or just enjoy the beautiful mess free fire. Book ahead! Enjoy the peacefulness, local wildlife (kookaburras, echidnas, wombats, kangaroos, etc.), small creek, stunning mountain views and dark skies for star gazing. Birdwatchers... you'll love it! The single flat grassy camp site is near the creek and the beautiful big old apple box tree. The primitive loo with a view is in short walking distance (about 20m). We had a lovely 2 nights stay at Creal’s Rest. It was very peaceful. The alpacas were sweet and curious and there was even a baby alpaca! The burbling creek was pretty and a soothing sound. The big apple box gum tree was spectacular and provided nice shade. The site is just down the hill from the main house but quite private. There is a composting drop toilet (with no door). We saw a few platypus in Mannus creek 5 minutes drive down the road at the bridge. It was lovely and green in late spring. Our hosts were kindly and interesting to chat with. Thanks for having us!

Absolutely beautiful countryside, beautiful stream right beside camp. Hosts were amazingly warm and inviting. The kids really enjoyed the alpaca feeding. It was completely comfortable for our five kids to run off some energy and there is a very convenient clean long drop which was a definite plus for us👌 We will definitely be returning, thanks again to our wonderful hosts 👍

Creal's rest is an amazing break away - from the beautiful tree and creek, to the loo with a view and alpacas. The hosts are nothing short of fabulous and were very knowledgeable about where to spot the elusive platypus to the amazing Sswedish torch. We had a great time and hope to be back.

We loved the fact that Creal’s rest only has one hipcamper at a time. The campsite is sheltered and pretty with a lovely creek just below. We caught lots of Yabbies which were delicious! Spotting Platypus in the nearby river was wonderful.

We had the best time camping at Creals Rest. It's SO peaceful, the kids had a ball running around the paddock, swinging in the hammock, roasting marshmallows by the fire, pottering around in the creek, feeding the alpacas, bouncing on the trampoline and just being kids outside from morning until night! The space is so lovely and peaceful and 20-30 mins drive from Tumbarumba, gorgeous waterfalls (Paddys Falls), swimming spots (Paddys Flats), fishing spots (Mannus lake), and so many kangaroos to be seen within a 5 min drive! We had such a lovely time and Craig and Tatjana couldn't have been more helpful, would highly highly recommend to anyone looking at hipcamping here!!!

Amazing place to stay. So quiet with a lovely host. We fed the Alpacas and got some delicious figs for the road. Will definitely stay again if we ever pass back through.

Tatjana was lovely and helped facilitate a romantic proposal at sunset on her property. She recommended a caterer, then help set it up and pack it all down so we didn't have to worry and could just enjoy the moment.

Camped next to the Apple Oak tree - provided great shade but also perfect to charge the batteries of the van. A peaceful campsite with an abundance of bird life and trickling creek on our visit. The resident Alpacas were inquisitive but after a short visits they went about doing what Alpacas do. The loo with a view is a winner in my eyes. Walteela means place of piece and Creals Rest is certainly peaceful. Tatjana and Craig are engaging and fantastic hosts. Highly recommend if you want a peaceful campsite that is just for you and your group.

What fabulous hosts and what an incredible campsite! Tatiana and Craig are wonderful hosts - so calm, welcoming and thoughtful. I loved feeding the alpacas and learning about the beautiful straw bale home on the property. The big tree and creek are also lovely. The stars were out in force, a beautiful campfire and some smooth water made for a perfect evening. I’d highly recommend this site! Thanks Tatiana and Craig 💚

Staying at Creal's Rest as a family (with small children) was really great. Such a beautiful spot to set up camp, nestled on small creek under a majestic tree. Great shade with cool breeze in the Summer. Tatjana and Craig were wonderful hosts, making lots of time to make our stay really enjoyable. We enjoyed watching the roaming Alpacas on the property, although they mainly kept to themselves. The camp site was fully equipped with a fire pit, benches and an outhouse - all in great working order. I really look forward to coming back on our next trip through the Tumbarumba region.

Travelled from Melbourne to Creal’s Rest. After a 4.5hrs drive, was warmly greeted by hosts Tatjana & Craig and their Alpacas. This was a solo camping trip for 3days2nights and they were not joking when you can have the entire site to yourself. The running creek and the birds provide a tranquil setting to just relax, away from it all. The Creek provide water for washing and shower water if you like. I purchased a bundle of firewood that could last me 2 nights. The alpacas do come around to greet you every now and then, and they always have this curious look. Very peaceful during the entire stay. A simple and clean compost toilet, with a view while you are in ‘business’. I had such a fantastic stay: highlights for me: - Small creek - Giant apple bark tree that provides plenty of shade - one of the best star-filled sky I have ever seen Nearby attractions that I ventured out: Tumbarumba town; swim at Mannus Lake Most of the time, I was just really happy to relax at the campsite. I will most definitely bring my family back here for a restful time.

Creal's Rest is an amazing space away from the busy city. Once you get there, you are surrounded by nature and no car traffic. Tatjana and Craig are very welcoming and friendly. Upon arriving, Tatjana greeted us, showed us to our site, and provided us with alkaline water and some brochures about her camp and the surrounding areas. Very lovely touch! We had the opportunity to feed their friendly alpacas and tour their property. Tatjana and Craig showed us how they started with an empty lot and built everything they have now. It is very inspiring and their passion and hospitality are second to none. I would stay here again next time I am in the snowy valley region and I would recommend anyone in the area to not skip this Hipcamp. You won't regret it!

We had such a wonderful stay at Creal’s Rest. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed, enjoying the afternoon sun alongside the creek watching the birds in the trees above. We stayed in our swag with the stars and almost full moon shining above. Tatjana was absolutely lovely and welcoming. In the morning we were greeted by the curious alpacas while we had our coffee by the fire. Would love to have stayed more than one night and could easily come back for a week or two of bliss! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful property!

What a wonderful place. Seclusion, wonderful hosts, luscious green campsite, the creek, long drop, firewood and so close to many towns and activities. My children and could not wanted any more. There is even heaps to do on wet day. Fantastic site in a great part of the world.

Camping at Creal’s Rest was an unforgettable time. The property is a hidden paradise, not to mention the hosts are amazingly generous and kind. A bottle of alkaline water from Tatjana on arrival as well as hammocks set up ready to go! Craig delivered us a load of fire wood and helped us get started on our first night. The creek was beautiful and refreshing, and flowing gently on the hottest weekend in March! We had an alpaca feeding experience, which the kids (and husband!) enjoyed so much! The loo is so clean and comfortable to use (and this is coming from someone who HATES drop loos!) So much more I could write, but I’ll be sure to run out of room to write. Definitely book in if you are in the area. Such a beautiful place in this area, it’s worth a detour to spend time at. Will definitely be back soon!
