Loved Coolendel. Great location.. off the beaten track but not too off beaten.
The lady at checking was friendly and informative.
We camped mid November during the week and literally had the place to ourselves.
They had two amenities with hot showers which was a bonus on the first morning. But the rest of the time the fresh water of the Shoal Haven river was perfect.
About 90% of sites have fire pits so make sure you bring your own fire wood.
No 4G or 5G network but you could buy wifi to access communications.
During the three days of camp we managed to see wallabies, kangaroos, wombats, peacocks and abundance of birds life. The stars at night were on full display.
One thing I would recommend if you’re camping during the school holidays is to bring your own portable toilet or off grid shower as the amenities would be at premium use
Most sites have taps you access fresh water.

We came on October long weekend as a family of 2 adults and a 2 yr old. Originally, we left things last minute travelling from the Central Coast to South, this is one of the only spot left… but we are so glad that we found Coolendel. Even with the amount of people there, and pretty much booking out all sites, it was amazing! We would 100% go back!
Getting in was a wild experience as the location is actually off grid including no reception - you have to just keep driving and trust the process as it didn’t show on our map. The road is pretty much one way and dirt track so be prepared, there’s narrow opportunities to let people past so their check in and out windows are vital.
We got in and loved how big the space really was, they had porta loos available (even with toilet paper and cleaners daily). There is only a few shower but we packed our own camp shower and loo (dump site available). There is wifi with starlink near reception which is helpful if you need to flick a message to let people know you are there, but honestly the no reception was what we needed.
The river is awesome! The surrounding view is beautiful and there is rapids and kayak hire.
We saw a Goanna scavenging food in a family’s camp site which was wild, so recommend keeping rubbish and tent access concealed… very cool though how close the wild life was with wombats hanging out around also.
Reception office had heaps of extra essential supplies available if you’re forget anything and ice for purchase too.

Overall, it was a good experience. The amenities were very well maintained. Yet when booking I got the impression that I booked a specific camp site (seen in the map feature) however it was a free for all and over booked with people packed into spots that weren’t even camp sites. Also no mention of the unsealed and narrow road that leads into the camp site. However when it’s less busy I can see how it would be a lovely campsite to stay at.

Great place to camp, it had so many spots to choose from with lots of shady spots and fire pits everywhere. We loved being about to go explore the river and have a swim. Definitely packed out for the long weekend as expected but I’d imagine on a quieter period, you could find a spot pretty secluded.

A well laid out site that is huge and family friendly! Definitely worth staying for a minimum of 3 nights if you are travelling more then 3 hours to reach this awesome spot like we did. Bindies are your best friend here so be wary of that. I suggest bringing water shoes as well for some of the swim locations in the river with the rocks etc. There is access to water via taps so you can fill jerry's up. There is a small shop for basic items incase you forget or run out of items (they sell ice bags, foods (chips, canned goods, chocolate). Bring your own toilet paper and if you have a portable shower, even better as it saves waiting for a shower when there is a cue. Each land mark has portaloos, with the main road down to the sites have the shower and toilet blocks. You won't get reception here but they have wifi spots around site for a small fee if you need to connect for whatever reason. We had a wombat come to our site and say hello one of the nights and seen a Goanna check out our neighbours food supply which was awesome! Kids will love having a push bike ad the site is pretty open with different levels for camping areas. It's first in best dressed for picking areas to set up. There is also an RV dump point for portable toilets which is great.

This beautiful and enormous acreage has a lovely river frontage and an abundance of wildlife.
We went on the October weekend so it was at capacity - ie hundreds of campers - but we still
managed to find a charming little nook to camp in. There is so much river frontage that it never felt crowded and the vibe was really family friendly with only a couple of noisy groups. It is wonderful to see wombats, monitors, kangaroos and wallabies wandering through the campsites and there is an abundance of wrens, finches, kookaburras and other birds.

I loved camping at Coolendel. The area was huge and was very busy during easter time. The river was clean and great for swimming. However there is not enough facilities . There was only 2 toilets and showers which is not enough. There were portable toilets around different camp site which were dirty most of the times. But the place was lovely. Overall nice experience.

We loved camping at Coolendel! Great amenities which were regularly cleaned. The site itself is beautiful with a lovely creek to swim in and we were lucky to see wombats at night.

Wonderful property with so much space, kayaks available for rent. Camping options from riverfront camping to shaded spaces, also glamping available as well. Great facilities with outdoor/indoor showers, clean toilets, etc. Really great place to spend a few days with your friends or family.

The campground was super busy for Aus Day long weekend and we still managed to snag a great spot. The river is stunning and an extremely relaxing for swimming. Areas for fire were amazing and amenities very well kept. Easily accessible without four wheel drive although the road is dusty and watch out for potholes. We were greeted by the wildlife which included amazing peacocks and a resident wombat. Everyone there very respectful of curfew and were able to make friends with other campers. Staff were also super helpful and explained everything without any hassle. What a great place to unwind and switch off.

Very nice big open property - first in first served style for the good spots.
The drive in to the property was unexpected, through a bit of a windy gravel road but once arrived it was amazing.
Staff were friendly and helpful

This was our first time at Coolendel and it was a great experience. The property is massive with no end of spots available to camp- with varying degrees of privacy. We chose to camp in “the burrows”. Our camp site was very private and spacious while being very close to one of the two large ammenities blocks. There was access to a fresh water river which was perfect for swimming and some friendly peacocks that roamed the camp grounds, showing off. The drive to reach Coolendel is about 11km of unsealed, winding, and quite narrow road. We were not aware of the driving conditions so were quite shocked by the drive. Amazing place to camp and we will definitely be back probably to stay for more than one night next time.

Very Nice place to stay, Was a skinny dirt road to access the property but towing the 20ft caravan through there we didn't encounter any problems. It was busy but we managed to find a nice quiet spot. It was a nice walk down to the river and was very pleasant water with a strong flow with plenty of places to swim out of the current.
There is a camp shop which looked to have lots of everything incase you forgot something. As it's very remote I'd highly recommend ensuring you have enough supplies for the entire time though.
There was plenty of firewood for purchase.
There was water onsite that we used for showering and washing up. We didn't run out of drinking water. Water was very clear and looks perfectly fine to drink.

We loved this camp-site! Perfect for long stay, there are showers and toilets in good and clean conditions. Camp-fire was allowed at our stay time. Very sweet and nice host.
There is a beautiful river near there, curious animals come from time to time. So good and relaxing place.

The site was great. Unfortunately didn't get chance to go for a swim but it's nice you can go in the river from the site. Womens facilities in particular were lovely and very clean. Lots of nice views on the drive up but be aware the road is quite rough, tight and steep in places - we didn't realise and we're in a big normal van so struggled in some places but still manageable. Overall lovely though and would recommend!

Loved camping at Coolendel. Starry skies, mountain surrounds and easy access to water activities.
Facilities are basic but well maintained. The place could do better with power, more amenities and working BBQs.
