You will come here to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of `Black Mountain'. `Black Mountain’ is on Gumbainggir country. It is a registered conservation property bordering Nymboida River and Nymboi-Binderay National Park. Alastair and I have shared the property for more than 25 years and consider ourselves custodians of this precious place. Visitors enjoy: the pristine river; walking tracks through diverse terrain; starry night skies and campfires. Previous guests recommend staying at least two nights to soak up the atmosphere and explore the area. Choose from the 'Ant Shack' or four adjacent campsites with easy access and views to the Nymboida River. Shared facilities include a hot shower and composting toilets. You can walk, swim and kayak, explore the area or just relax for days. We can’t accommodate domestic animals or allow fishing, not even catch and release, because we protect our wildlife and the endangered Eastern Cod. Black Mountain is remote but just 60 kilometres from Grafton or Coffs (via back way). 2WD access to our house is from Nymboida only. 4WD/AWD from Lowanna or Glenreagh and 4WD/AWD down to the river/campsite area - Not suitable for caravans. All proceeds from Airbnb and Hipcamp are invested in the continuing conservation of Black Mountain.

Black Mountain - Platypus Leap

97%
(19)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 7 · Vehicles under 6 m
Platypus Leap is one of four campsites at Black Mountain. Each campsite is well defined and private.  In addition to the campsites, the`Ant Shack' provides full accommodation for up to 4 people . Platypus Leap has a magnificient sweeping view of Nymboida River.  This long campsite follows a steep bank contour - beautiful any time, especially dawn and dusk.  You can enjoy Platypus Leap by yourself or share it with your friends and family. Platypus Leap (approx 18* 4 metres) can accommodate 2 or more camping combinations. Because the site is long and skinny, you need to plan your camping and car configoration. Platypus Leap sits approximately 40 metres above the river with a short walk to the swimming holes, kayak/boating launching, and sign posted walks across Black Mountain. Shared amenities are close by including a hot shower and composting toilets.

Black Mountain 4/ALLWD- Drongo Dell

RV/tent site · Sleeps 4 · Vehicles under 6 m
Spangled Drongo Dell is one of four campsites at Black Mountain. Each campsite is defined and private from the other sites.  In addition to the campsites, the `Ant Shack' provides full accommodation for up to 4 people . Drongo Dell (approx. 9 *5 mtrs) is a smaller campsite suitable for one large tent.- fire place and table provided. This is one of my favourite sites because it sits beside Black Mountain's main gully and is closest to Nymboida River which you hear softly making its way downstream.  Shared amenities include hot showers and composting toilets a little further up the hill.  There is a small compost toilet nearby, if you are caught short.

Black Mountain 4WD - The Ant Shack

100%
(10)
Cabin · Sleeps 4 · 1 bedroom · 3 beds · 1 toilet
Bordering Nymboi-Binderay National Park and the Nymboida River, Black Mountain is a registered conservation property. Enjoy the sheer beauty of the place; not just the accommodation. You can walk, swim and explore the area or just relax for days.  The 'Ant Shack' is basic, hand built, quaint and mostly recycled. From the wide verandas you overlook a rainforest gully and can watch Nymboida River flow endlessly past. The outdoor campfire wins every time.  Black Mountain’s’ Ant Shack has everything you need for a night or a week `Unplugged’. No mobile, no internet and limited solar power. A queen bed and bunks accommodate up to 4 people in the bedroom. The Lounge/Kitchen has a sofa-bed couch, dining table, small fridge, 3 ring gas stove, sink and cupboards stocked with all the utensils you need. Rainwater is provided for drinking. Limited solar power provides lighting, fans and a fridge. Candles, rechargeable lights and ice-filled eskies back-up when required - a return to the `old ways’ or romantic interlude. A small gas heater keeps winter chills at bay. One gas bottle is provided, additional gas supplied at cost. There is a composting toilet close by and shared amenities provide a hot shower and additional compositing toilets. Breakfast is not included because Black Mountain is remote, a long way from shops and fresh food.  Guests are welcome to use free internet which is available at the main house. Eagles Nest, Myrtle Terrace, Platypus Leap and (Spangled) Drongo Dell are four campsites nearby. These areas can also be booked through Hipcamp. PID-STRA-28432
