Reset Retreat is fully off-grid – that means our power comes from the sun, our water comes from the rain, our internet comes from Starlink satellites and our heat comes from our fireplace (with a heat transfer system that disperses the heat throughout the house).

Creatives at heart, Debbie and Frits both love the arts. They love listening to music, collecting vintage pieces (both clothing and artefacts that you can view in their museum!) & hosting dinner parties and events. Their idea for opening Terako Downs was born from their love of sharing. Coming out of owning a business in Dunedin, they felt it a shame not to share their artefacts and the beauty of the property. And they also wanted to be able to pay for the lawn mowing guy.

I've got under an acre section with a small cottage. The section is pretty flat and fully fenced. Locally in Raetihi we have a walk along our river and within a 30-40 minute drive there are three national parks with plenty of walks and bike tracks. My section is pretty basic, but I've got a doggie so pets are very welcome, and I'm happy to have them hang out in the yard while you go to the non dog friendly activities.

Reset Retreat is an eco-retreat nestled away on 25 acres of private, native forest filled with Northland Brown Kiwis, glow worms, freshwater springs, Rurus, and resident native birds.
We are right on the Twin Coast Cycle Trail and have access to several kilometers of private hiking trails that are yours to explore.
You will have your own private guest wing and balcony with gorgeous views over this hidden valley.
At night, you can sit by the fire and take in the stars, glow worms and kiwi calls. By day, you can explore the cycle trail and all the awesome local tourism Northland has on offer.
You will have your own covered balcony and outdoor cooking space (pictured), your own entry and room (pictured), and private ensuite with shower.
We have worked hard as Kaitiaki of this land over the last three years, working alongside the Northland Council to protect the kiwis, forest and animals here. As a result (alongside Kiwis) you can also see Titiwai/glow worms, Kererū, Tui, Tomtits, we have spotted longtailed bats outside our house on dusk, Ruru, Riroriro, Cave and Tree Wetas, the rare and gorgeous, large, green Puriri Moths, Piwakawakas, Peacocks, and a host of other native and non-native animals, insects and plants.
Reset Retreat is fully off-grid – that means our power comes from the sun, our water comes from the rain, our internet comes from Starlink satellites and our heat comes from our fireplace (with a heat transfer system that disperses the heat throughout the house).

Lovely place! Heel rustig en afgelegen tussen de heuvels en met een mooi stukje bush en riviertje ernaast. Wij vonden het heerlijk met zo weinig mensen daar te staan. Wc’s zijn compost wc’s en verrassend schoon en zonder geur. Host Timothy niet ontmoet maar heel vriendelijk en communiceert direct. Geen telefoonbereik of wifi ter plekke.

We had a great stay at River Bends Campsite and would definitely come back.
When we first arrived, there was a bit of a mix-up because another group was already there (they had the wrong day), so we had to wait for a while before settling in. But Tim handled it really well; he came down to the campsite himself to sort things out and make sure everything was okay.
A big thanks as well to Tim’s father, who also came down later to check on us and make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our stay. We really appreciated that.
The campsite itself is a real hidden gem. Very peaceful, picturesque, and a great place to relax. We were lucky to have a clear sky at night, and the stars / Milky Way were amazing.
Overall, a beautiful spot and a great experience. Definitely recommend it, and we’d happily stay again.

Ich fand den Camping an einem wunderschönen Ort, inmitten der Natur. Ein kleiner Bach fließt am Rande des Campings vorbei. Die Toiletten mit Lavabo sind sehr sauber und nachts brennt sogar Licht auf der Treppe zu Toilette. Es war einer der schönsten Camping, den ich bis jetzt besucht hatte. Er ist abgelegen, darum macht es Spaß, in einer Gruppe dort Zeit zu verbringen.

Exactly what I had in mind camping with a motorhome in New Zealand would be like. As close to the shire as you can get in real life. Surrounded by sheep and amazing little hills. You must go down to the stream and walk through the water. It’s surreal surrounded by the rocks and trees. Beautiful place. Definitely staying here again if we’re in the region.
