Wake up to sweeping ocean views with Whale Island right offshore and White Island in the distance. Set directly on the sand, Thornton Beach Holiday Park offers powered and unpowered sites just metres from both the beach and the Rangitaiki River. Sites are spacious and easy to access, supported by clean kitchen and bathroom facilities, free Wi-Fi, a dump station, and plenty of room to relax. You’ll have calm river water for swimming, kayaking and fishing on one side, and a long stretch of surf beach on the other for walks, beachcombing or throwing in a line. A small range of cosy cabins is also available for those wanting simple, comfortable accommodation. Whakatāne township is only a short drive away for supplies, cafés and local culture, yet the park itself feels peaceful and laid-back — a classic coastal base where you can slow down, explore, and enjoy the best of the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

If you enjoy camping, you’ll love staying with us! There are so many great spots at Thornton Beach Holiday Park to set up your tent or park your motor home. The Holiday Park is absolute beachfront. We provide power and water to each site. Caravans requiring a connection to power must have a current warrant of fitness. Tents requiring power must have an approved isolating transformer or residual current device with a 10m lead. Tenters can hire the power adaptor needed for $ 15.00 per night but bookings are essential.

Our comfortable and spacious 2-storey Park Motel is a fantastic choice of accommodation for a great beach holiday with the family. There is a nice deck in front of the Park Motel for you to relax with some drinks and nibbles and to take in the park views. Outdoor furniture is provided. The Park Motel has a queen-size bed downstairs in the master bedroom, and another queen-size bed plus a single bed can be found in a separate bedroom upstairs. There is a spacious bathroom with a great shower for you to enjoy. The unit is self-contained (not serviced) and has full kitchen facilities. Enjoy comfort and convenience.

Our comfortable 2-bedroom Tourist Flats are a fantastic choice of accommodation for a great beach holiday. There is a nice deck in front. Outdoor furniture is provided. The Tourist Flat has a queen-size bed in the master bedroom, and a set of single bunks can be found in a separate bedroom. The unit has full kitchen facilities and a bathroom (shower).

Our Standard Cabins are basic but comfortable, with plenty of sleeping space comprising a queen-size bed and a bunk bed in the same room. The Standard Cabin sleeps up to 4 people. You will find a table & amp; amp; chairs in the cabin and there is a TV and a private deck to enjoy. You can use our communal facilities for toilets, showers, and cooking. Cutlery, crockery cooking utensils are not provided.

Just spent Labour Weekend here, and we couldn’t be happier. The location is to die for! Right on the beach, with a handy, safe river and inlet for the kids. Great spots for fishing too, with a handy wharf and of course the beach for surf-casting. Great that the camp shop provides bait, as well. Nice, tidy cabins, providing everything we needed (just had to bring our own bedding) but was told this beforehand so was no issue whatsoever. The kids ADORED the jumpy pillow, something you don’t see everywhere, and the playground just around the corner. Not too far a drive to shops (Edgecumbe, Matatā or Whakatāne), but such a beautiful secluded spot that if you stocked up before you came out you wouldn’t feel like leaving. We used the facilities, and were impressed with their cleanliness. The staff were helpful, kind, and knowledgeable about the area and things for us to do. I don’t have a bad word to say. Would 100% recommend Thornton Beach Holiday Park for your next stay; you won’t regret it.

Just spent four nights here in this immaculate clean camp it's a achievement to the owner and cleaning staff to do this good showers I would give ten stars if I could even if there is no fish it's good to sit back relax and chat to other campers

What a lovely motorcamp to spend a couple of nights at. Firstly, the staff were welcoming informative, knowledgeable very helpful and pleasant. We were travelling with a small dog, and on the entry gate was a sign.. "no dogs past this point." I informed them of our wee boy and they put us into an area set apart for owners of dogs that will not affect the main park campers... awesome! This was possibly an off season option that I never enquired about. All the facilities were excellent, well maintained, and very clean. $1.00token for a 5minute shower. $4for laundry with $4 for the drier. And it comes with an excellent playground for the little ones.... and a wonderful beach and river estuary and river mouth for the rest of the family. Fishing... yes please!! The camp comes with a wide range of accommodation from larger motel units, to smaller tent sites and everything in between. Did I mention that it comes with its own local tropical climate.... and no, I could not find any mangos or bananas growing! The off season cost for our stay was most reasonable. Thank you Thornton Beach Holiday Park.

Had such an amazing positive experience here. Loved it! Extremely friendly and welcoming reception from Phil! Sites were big and spacious. Lots of parking available for car and trailer. Will definitely be back.
