Kia ora and welcome to the Samuel Chase Estate, a peaceful stretch of private ancestral family land on the shores of Lake Taupō in Acacia Bay. We keep things small on purpose. With only a handful of camping spots spread across 1.6 acres of absolute waterfront, you get plenty of space, privacy and a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. Set up on our wide, flat upper lawn with views across the lake to Taupō town and the hills beyond. When you’re ready, wander down the driveway to the water’s edge for a swim, a paddle or a lazy afternoon on the grass by the lake. Black swans and native birds are regular visitors. You’re only five minutes’ drive from Taupō town, and the local Acacia Bay dairy is an easy walk along the footpath or a few minutes away by bike. You’re close enough for supplies, yet far enough away to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. In summer, watch the boat races on the lake and enjoy front-row views of the New Year’s Eve fireworks across the water. Tents, caravans and campervans are all welcome. We’re off-grid, with no power, so come prepared for a simple, back-to-nature stay. There’s a portable toilet and a cold outdoor shower on site. Kids aged 14 and under stay free, and well-behaved dogs are welcome on a lead. Boat and trailer parking costs $10 per night.

Pitch up on our wide, flat upper lawn with views across Lake Taupō to the town and hills beyond. This is an open, shared grassy area with room for just a few groups at a time, so there’s plenty of space between you and your neighbours. Tents, caravans and campervans are all welcome. Drive straight onto the grass from the gravel driveway (vehicles up to about 10m). There’s a portaloo, a cold outdoor shower and two picnic tables beside the water tank. When you’re ready, wander down the driveway to the lakeside grass for a swim, a paddle or to watch the black swans. Sunrises over the lake are something special. Off-grid with no power, so bring what you need and take your rubbish with you. Gas BBQs welcome; no open fires. Dogs welcome on a lead, and kids 14 and under stay free.
