Hairy Dogs Fishing Camp

29 sites · RVs, Tents5 acres · Kununurra, WA
One hour drive from Kununurra or Wyndham and the Gibb River Road is Hairy Dog's Fishing Camp and Lazy Dog campsite, located on the banks of the Ord River, home to the famous sportfish, barramundi. Tropical wildlife, lots of birdlife and crocodiles coexist here and you have river views, access to boat ramps, local attractions including a bird sanctuary. You can also join one of our popular guided tours. Set above highwater mark, the campsite sits safely on the riverbank with views of the historical landmark, House Roof Hill. Birdlife twitters about all day (and some through the night), while agile wallabies hop on by. Trees for shade and water for cooking/washing make for a comfortable campsite. A shared and well-maintained ablution block contains 2 showers and 2 flush toilets for all to use. You can enjoy an open fire at our large fire-pit and several small fire stands are provided for a more personal touch. If you have your own boat, it is often possible it can be launched and moored from the camp's boat ramp. No kayaks, canoes or floating-type watercraft are able to be used in this section of the river due to the large crocodiles that live here. A plunge pool is available for a 'cool off'. For info on the region, we are happy to share our knowledge.

Camp Qualinup

8 sites · RVs, Tents2000 acres · Bremer Bay, WA
Due to extensive property roadworks and improvements to the Camp area and in the interest of safety as well as providing a peaceful stay we have now closed until later this year which will be approximately the end of August, however we will keep this message up dated as the work progresses. Thank you. Qualinup is an old location which was originally used for summer grazing for sheep farmers near Borden who walk the sheep down the 100kms for summer because of the constant water supply and feed available. Qualinup's meaning is place of Emu and the farm is located on the eastern side of the old dog proof fence and still has a pristine wetland. Numerous owners over the years have tried different farming practises, however since 1993 the farm has been following organic sustainable practises, currently grazing Boer goats which we originally introduced for weed control. Over the years since 1993 the farm has produced certified seed potatoes, cut flowers, a trial wine grape vineyard, run outside coloured pigs to name a few enterprises however the vast underground water supply from limestone lends the farm to intensive agriculture, especially given its close proximity to the coast with the southern ocean limiting frost damage. With considerably less rainfall they Perth and some amazing clear warm days without wind, winter camping around the fire definitely possible. The property backs on to Reef Beach for some great fishing or 4x4 activities, the property has a private network of 4x4 tracks for your use as well but only for licensed vehicles. Bremer Bay is 30kms away via the sealed main road which opens up to a host of activities.

Lakeside camping in Western Australia guide

Overview

Australia's largest state affords plenty of ways to get on the water, whether you're seeking a tranquil spot to fish and paddle, spotting freshwater crocodiles on a cruise, or cooling off at an outback swimming hole in the Kimberley. Check into a holiday park or cabin along the shores of Lake Argyle, the largest manmade lake in the southern hemisphere; marvel at the bubblegum pink waters of the Hutt Lagoon and Lake Hillier, or pitch your tent by the shores of Stockton Lake or Black Diamond Lake, both within easy reach of Perth. When summer (November through March) temperatures soar, snagging a lakeside campsite will keep you cool, but water sports can be enjoyed year-round. Perhaps check into a rustic unpowered site at Wellington National Park, find a scenic spot by Jasper Lake at D'Entrecasteaux National Park, or escape the crowds at a private lake campsite.
