Welcome to your dream destination!! We have two different locations available in Kangaroo Island with some options of sites in each. FIRST LOCATION: EMU BAY HIDEAWAY-30 hectares of peace, mainly vegetated with Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaved Mallee (Eucalyptus cneorifolia, a nationally-protected ecological community). Kangaroos and wallabies are in abundance. It has a wonderful feeling of remoteness and seclusion yet is so close to iconic Emu Bay. Those with 4WD may choose sites overlooking Shoal Bay towards Kingscote. Alternatively, you may set up camp anywhere on the property. There is even one under-cover position with a concrete floor for those concerned about the weather. There are no amenities so guests need to be 100% self-sufficient (including BYO drinking water and toilet) and leave no trace. It is a wild block and only five minutes from the iconic Emu Bay, where the white sandy beach runs for 4kms, most of which is backed by 10 to 20-meter-high dunes. It is one of the best beaches on the island with crystal-clear water. SECOND LOCATION: Farm Stay about 15 km from Emu Bay and 20km from the main town of Kingscote. This is an operating small sheep farm of over 100ha. For security reasons the exact location is not advertised, but will be disclosed upon arrival on Kangaroo Island. There are several beautiful sites. This location is fairly central to most KI visitor attractions. It is a secure place to set up camp and have peace of mind that your belongings will be safe while you are away from the site. The host takes care to situate sites to give campers the feeling of exclusiveness. NOTES; Check with me before lighting a campfire - this depends on the season and risk. Dogs are permitted if well controlled (register visiting dogs with local council). You have the entire Villa, which is very private, a verandah out front to enjoy the view out to sea and Kangaroo Island, and a fully enclosed courtyard in the rear to chill and enjoy the sunshine. The Villa is also wheelchair friendly, all entrances are wide, including French doors to the lounge and both bedrooms, a very large double shower with sliding doors, a raised toilet for people with issues, two toilets, and a separate vanity area. It is bordered by Currency Creek, which flows with crystal-clear water from a spring all year round, and is a wonderful track to hike around and enjoy beautiful views of the inlets and creeks leading to the lower lakes. The farmhouse is surrounded by huge pine trees and gums, and there is an easy access turn-around driveway and plenty of parking. The property is only a short distance from Goolwa, Middleton, and Victor Harbor. In the future, the plans are to have a veggie garden for tenants to pick from and chickens, ducks, and small animals to associate with. There are cattle with calves and sheep in the neighboring paddocks. We have invited you to bring your dog along, but at this stage, they will have to be tethered at all times so they do not escape and interfere with stock. This is for their safety as well. Beautiful spot, and lovely friendly hosts who offer local knowledge and make guest feel comfortable. It is a small property with very close proximity and access to the waterways which is very convenient if you are going for a row. Keep an eye on the weather. Amazing bird life to see. Very near town and all sorts of possibilities there if the water is a bit rough. Try Gillian's bread if she's making it, it's lovely. I had a great stay.

It was magical. The only down side is as they are renovating there were lots of construction materials lying around. But what a lovely spot and close to very good local attractions.

This is a small campsite, near the owners home. Works are under way to build a solid screen. The sunrise over the creek, with water birds and birdsong made a beautiful morning. Kangaroos abound. Shady trees, friendly hosts and lovely sourdough bread. Close to Goolwa was ideal for our visit. We will return, with our kayaks, for a paddle in the creek.

Perfect location to base yourself to explore the beaches and beautiful wineries/ breweries. Views from the property are stunning. We had pretty bad weather and still managed to enjoy walks around the property to see the wild life, hit up the local distillery and a drive down Myponga beach road which the owners suggested ( this has to be one of the most beautiful drives in all of SA and should not be missed!!) that surrounds this property. Stunning at sunset. Still a work in progress for the guys here but the effort that Heath and family are putting in, Im sure this place will be fantastic!!

Weekend Trip to The Old Middleton Winery

This property is located at the rear of the owner's land and is essentially a large paddock bordered by trees. Access was straightforward, following clear signage from the main road to the gate. During our visit in summer, the grass was dry, and a fire ban was in place. I can imagine this would be an ideal spot for a winter getaway, with a fire. Over the weekend, we had the entire area to ourselves and found a beautifully shaded spot to relax. We explored the property, including walking around the dam, and enjoyed encounters with a friendly horse and sheep. Our cat especially loved roaming the grounds and embraced his wild side. The temperature was about 10 degrees cooler than Adelaide—if Adelaide was 35°C, it was about 27°C here. In the evening the weather became even cooler, needing warm clothing. Shannon, our host, stopped by to greet us and was both friendly and welcoming. The property is very quiet, with the sound of the sea in the background. There are picturesque views of the surrounding hills and old grapevines. I would recommend this location to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat away from caravan parks. The site is suitable only for self-contained visitors. Thanks Shannon, will be back in the cooler months.

Fleurieu Peninsula

Road-trippers driving from Adelaide to Cape Jervis can take in the highlights of the Fleurieu Peninsula along the way. Swing by the Willunga Farmers Market, ride a horse-drawn tram from Victor Harbor to see the penguin colonies of Granite Island, or hop aboard the famous Cockle Train at nearby Goolwa.

Kangaroo Island

Car ferries set sail from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island—about a 45-minute journey—from where you can explore the island’s sandy beaches and wildlife-filled bushlands. Stop at Seal Bay to admire the sea lion colony, go sandboarding at the Little Sahara sand dunes, then venture off-road in the Flinders Chase National Park, home to natural wonders like Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.

McLaren Vale

The vine-clad foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Adelaide Hills make up the McLaren Vale wine region, home to some of South Australia’s oldest and most prestigious wineries. Rent a bike to explore the Shiraz trail, stopping off at boutique wineries and cellar doors, then check into a tranquil country campground, spend a night in a solar-powered eco-cabin, or go glamping in a bell tent.

When to go

The most popular time to visit Cape Jervis is during the summer months (Dec through Feb), when crowds flock to the surrounding beaches and ferry port. Ferries run from Cape Jervis to Kangaroo Island year-round, although they are occasionally cancelled in winter if the weather is particularly rough. June through October is whale migration season, so keep a lookout as you hike or cruise along the south coast.
