We had a really nice stay - Pete was lovely- very attentive- we were on the waterfront and the water was very accessible- would be great for kids to paddle and play - shallow entry. We had a peaceful time with just one set of friendly neighbours. Enjoyed fishing and caught a variety of small fish. Lots of bird life- we saw about 5 king parrots ☺️ and flying foxes. There are a few horses and cattle. Fires allowed when there isn’t a fire ban. We had a great stay.

Great no frills stopover that fronts onto highway. Short drive to camp on edge of large dam with very friendly host and dog.Definitely would stay again, probably for longer.Book through Hipcamp but still reasonable cost.

Great quiet spot beside the dam/lake. Lovely in the afternoon relaxing in the sunset with a drink or two. Birdlife, cattle and horses all stopped by the dam for a drink. Pete and his puppy Pearl are excellent hosts!

A lovely tranquil camp spot on the water. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Pete’s Place. Large drop toilet and heaps of fire wood. Pets welcome. Abundant bird life and a few cows wandering around. Pete’s a really nice guy too. Definitely recommend as a peaceful camp spot.

Quiet, spacious spot to set up camp. Beautiful bird song in the morning. Loved our visits from Pearl who dropped in for a pat. Pete was a friendly host with great local information. Enjoyed our 3 day stay whilst we explored Charters Towers.

Pete's place is one of those gems you come across that turns out to be so much better than what you expected. The setting is ideal, as you find your own patch near the lake (too good to be called a dam)! It was so peaceful, being that little bit out of town and away from the highway. I was going to stay overnight but ending up staying 3! Plenty to see in town which is only 10 minutes away. At Pete's place there is plenty of room to spread out. There is fire wood and fire pits at many sites. Pete comes around late afternoon to see if everyone is settled. This is one of the best places I have stayed in my 4 month journey.

We had a great time camping at Pete's place! A beautiful piece of land just outside Charters Towers by a small lake with a short trail you can walk along. His pup was such a sweetheart and we enjoyed our stay greatly! The stars at night were absolutely incredible and the sunset was gorgeous.
No potable water onsite, but a non-potable water tank and long drop close to the camp spots.
