Kakadu Billabong Safari Camp is a 100% owned and operated Aboriginal business. Visitors are welcome to book either the Safari style tents, or a campsite to pitch a tent or park an RV. We also host different festivals and cultural immersion programs throughout the year. Kakadu Billabong is a series of billabongs along the Jim Jim river system that become a series of permanent bodies of water on Murumburr Clan country. Murumburr Traditional Owners of the land provide a beautiful spot where visitors and their families can just get away and be off the grid so to speak and enjoy some healing time on country and catch up with Life. Billabongs is what we call a permanent body of water that transforms to a bare minimum at the end of the dry season still enough water to provide a yearly supply to animals far and wide or at least up to 50 kilometres away. We have many billabong locations to choose from including small wetlands where visitors can just soak up the beautiful peace and surrounds and the beautiful settings in and around the rivers and billabongs as they recede over the dry season to dry creek beds.

Our central campground features three powered and several unpowered camping sites all within easy access to the ablution block with hot showers, camp kitchen with a gas BBQ and fridge, communal fire pit, fenced spa pool and shaded picnic area. There is a designated boat wash area and a large stainless steel bench for cleaning your catch from the famous Bynoe Harbour and surrounding estuaries. The Nightjar Site hosts an airconditioned vintage van in a private area for the convenience of those wanting to hop in the car and 'go bush' or those extending their day out on the water and want to stay a night or two. We've got you covered with a limited selection of goods for sale including ice, fishing tackle and insect repellents. We love being close to nature and to enjoy our local native flora and fauna, where the lower section of the property has not seen fire for many years and boasts some very tall cycad, sand palms and many other species of native trees accessed by the designated walking trails. Don't forget your binoculars to view the variety of native birds species seen on the property. With some on the endangered list. We suggest guests bring along their favourite repellent and wear covered footwear for exploring our bush walks. Dusk and dawn are the best times for wildlife viewing but also when insects are most active. Light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a hat helps guests stay cool and less attractive to 'critters' We have equipped our sites with recycled oil lights which not only create a cozy atmosphere but one that's naturally less attractive to insects in the camping areas. Our main camping season runs from April to September but we warmly welcome off-season bookings as well.

Kakadu Billabong Safari Camp

16. Kakadu Billabong Safari Camp

8 sites · Tents, RVs · Jabiru, NT

Ellengowan

Ellengowan Retreat. 190 Threadfin Road, Dundee Downs, Northern Territory. Ellengowan is a new and ongoing venture to provide visitors with a private, peaceful and relaxing camping experience set amongst 30 acres with walking trails throughout, located an hour and a half drive from Darwin city. The property backs onto the Mackenzie Arm of Bynoe Harbor locally known as Six Pack Creek and the public boat ramp just a 5 minute drive away from the campground, perfect for launching your boat for a day on the water.
