LA Beach Camp

3. LA Beach Camp

Wagait Beach, NT · 1 site · Tent, RV
This quiet camp slopes down to the beach, passing palm trees and shady casuarinas. Feel free to grab a coconut and relax on the swing, hammock, or beach chairs while one of you throws out a line. Plenty of barra and snapper have been caught from the beach right out front. There is a large fire pit set up for cooking. Please use this as the only place you light a fire. The property has around a dozen different kinds of tropical fruit, and at any time of year, you’ll be able to find a variety of frangipanis and hibiscus to place on the ocean-view picnic table. The only humbug is the fruit bats, which can make quite a racket when the mangoes are ripe. The ferry terminal is just down the road and will take you across to Darwin in about 10 minutes. It runs most hours until midnight. The community has a general store and the Cox Club, where you can enjoy a meal or a beer under the banyan tree. There are often bands playing on weekends. The club is about a 2 km walk along the beach or road.
