I loved it here. The views from the campsite are beautiful. There is the “Dunny”, a fire pit and plenty of firewood. Dave and Julie were very welcoming and the most helpful, friendly people. They went out of their way to help and it was so much appreciated. My dog was in his element being allowed to explore off lead, it was sensory overload! If you are looking for a peaceful piece of paradise to stay, with Merimbula and Pambula close by, I recommend this place. Thanks Julie…and Dave…you are a legend!

I’ve stayed here three times now, and this time I brought my family. it never disappoints. The property has such a peaceful, freeing atmosphere that instantly helps you unwind. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming, which makes the stay even more special. The views are absolutely breathtaking, and it’s the perfect place to escape from busy city life. Sleeping under the stars here is magical , you won’t find a better spot for it. I loved the outdoor bath under the sky, and the hot showers were a great comfort after a day spent exploring. Being on a working dairy farm added to the charm. Watching the cows and soaking in the quiet rhythm of farm life was so grounding. Their friendly dog, Bailey, even came up last night and sat with me in my swag, such a sweet and comforting moment. To top it off, we made s’mores by the fire, with the smell of wood smoke in the air. It doesn’t get much better than that. Can’t wait to come back again.

We loved our stay at Wolumla bushcamp. They only take 1 booking for their site so you have all the views to yourself. Dave dropped in for a chat and a beer and gave some recommendations about things to see and where to eat. The view across the valley is stunning and the kangaroos are good company. We would definitely stay again at this fantastic spot.

Naomi and Graham were very friendly and helpful hosts. Feather Glenn connects you to nature. It is beautiful!!! The river is pristine, surrounded by mountains, flora and fauna. The composting toilet is a treat as is the complimentary fire pit and wood! This is a dog friendly camp site! We loved our stay here and can’t wait to come back!! Thank you Naomi and Graham.

I booked in for 1 night and stayed an extra 2, that's how lovely it was. I was solo camping for the majority of it and I felt safe and welcomed. The spot had a great fire pit and beautiful outlook over the mountains. It was close to a town if I needed any supplies and Julie and David were great with communication a d checking in that everything was all good. I'll be back for another reset. Thanks guys!

Staying at Norm’s place was nothing short of magical. Set on a beautiful, rolling green hilltop, the farm offers a peaceful retreat with wide-open space perfect for setting up a swag or tent. The highlight? A bath overlooking the hills, with curious cows wandering up to the fence—absolute bliss! Norm and his family were incredibly warm and hospitable, making me feel so welcome from the moment I arrived. The setup was incredibly thoughtful, with everything you could need—clean showers, toilets, access to power, water, and even a fridge. It’s clear a lot of care has gone into creating this special space. I felt so privileged to stay here and be part of such a serene and stunning environment. Thank you, Norm, for sharing your little slice of paradise with the world. I’ll definitely be back.

We absolutely loved this camp! The scenery is stunning, the facilities were wonderful, from the hot showers to the bath and fire pits and even the kitchen we can’t rate it more highly. Norm, narelle and Tom gave us An amazing farm tour and our kids saw cows being milked and a calf being born. We ate some of narelles delicious baking which was such a sweet surprise We used the 4x4 trails off the back of the property to explore fire trails that took us to heaps of near by towns and saw many shooting stars at night. This is a 10/10 camp.

Weekend Trip to Figtree Camp @ Mystery Bay

This was our 3rd visit to Figtree Camp and as always it was a pleasure to stay. The hosts are always very welcoming but not imposing, the property is always well kept, and the location is perfect for accessing the beach and surrounding areas. We will always come back to this site.

Feather Glenn is an absolutely beautiful spot that we plan to frequent. Despite the unfortunate weather during our stay, we were so taken with this picturesque site. Niomi and Graham are very welcoming and thoughtful hosts. The site is spacious, enclosed, has a generous amount of firewood, clean ammeneties, easy access to the river, and a very useful firepit and table. We very much look forward to future stays.

Quiet and private place to camp with beautiful bush and farmland around. We had a lot of rain whilst camped (36mm over 48hrs) and the water drained away very well. Well protected from the wind. There was 8 of us camped in 3 seperate tents and we had plenty of space. We all thought this was our favourite place to camp of our 10 day trip. Really liked the privacy and the fact it's a working cattle farm. The kids loved the cows, horses and kangaroos. Toilet was well maintained and no smell. Great location for access to surrounding sights and activities.

376 hectare operating dairy farm next to Biamanga National Park with access via secret 4WD track to the mountain and 22km to Brogo Dam for bass fishing. 16.5 kms to shopping centre of Bega. & 34 km to Tathra beach. The property has eucalyptus forest, rainforest gullies, fresh mountain water and abundant wildlife include bellbirds and lyrebirds. The campsite is at the original 1908 selection block by the late John Pearce (one of the first settlers in the area) and has extensive views. in dry weather you can get here in 2WD towing a small camper trailer. There is a steep hairpin bend so I do not recommend caravans with 2WD vehicles (4WD vehicle and caravan could handle this). Hobbs Bay Farm Narooma

Only minutes to Narooma on the NSW South Coast, this lovely 100 acre bush and open farmland setting has it all. Roagumba Farm

Roagumba, or Roa for short, is our 920 acre patch of paradise in the stunning Yowrie Valley, an area traditionally inhabited by the Yuin people. Roa is a working cattle farm, made up of approximately 60% cleared land and the rest native bushland. The Yowrie Valley is largely surrounded by the beautiful Wadbilliga National Park. It is a 35 minute drive to the beaches near Bermagui, whilst the historic and quirky town of Tilba is 40 minutes away. The crystal clear Yowrie River flows along the western side of the property with numerous secluded swimming holes. The property is a working cattle farm so you're likely to meet some very friendly Jersey cows during your stay, as well as a lot of native wildlife such as kangaroos, wombats and birds. We operate three Hipcamp sites and two different locations on the property. Mountain Camp is a single site and offers complete seclusion and privacy, while River Camp is a double site and offers views across the valley whilst only being metres from the river. Both locations have composting toilets. We cater for small groups who are seeking a quiet, peaceful escape. Our sites are small and are capped at 6 people each, per night. To reduce traffic and out of respect to our neighbours, there is a maximum of 2 vehicles allowed per site. One additional vehicle per site can be organised, however we need at least 72 hours notice.

Misty Mountain Wildlife Refuge

Misty Mountain Wildlife Refuge is a 330 acre farm which provides sanctuary to kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, echidnas and many bird species including their habitats. There are Alpacas and Sheep, Kangaroos, Wombats, Kookaburras, Echidnas and many other animals that enjoy this property. The land has 80 acres of cleared grassland this side of the river, and for the adventurous and energetic you can rome the other 250 acres by crossing to the other side of the rive, there are large stands of rainforest and bushland, with 2.5 km of Brown Mountain Creek and its tributary meandering through it. There are some swimming holes and mini rapids; the crystal clear water flowing over the river rocks can be heard from most parts of the farm. The land comprises Little Brown Mountain and has 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains and farmland with wonderful cloud formations and mists contributing their mystery and beauty to the dramatic landscape. There is an orchard with trees producing several varieties of apple, stone fruit and citrus in abundance. A cottage garden produces various vegetables and herbs such as spinach, celery, potatoes, garlic, chives, lettuce, rocket, parsley, turmeric, peas, beans, tomato etc. Past bushfire damage to some trees in the cleared paddocks is evident however, many are recovering well and most provide photographers with interesting and dramatic subject matter. Due to the catastrophic events of the NSW bush fires in this area all camp fires must be kept responsibly safe and no unsafe camp fires will be tolerated. All Guests are required to have an acceptable camp toilet, no holes in the ground. All river access points are shared, be mindful of others. As dogs are welcome and even well behaved dogs will be dogs when it comes to their family, all guests are advised to make themselves known prior to going near another's camp site, then there is no surprises either way. May common sense prevail. Thank you for visiting the farm.

Located walking distance from Cobargo township this cosy half acre has everything you need for a overnight stop over or no fuss nature getaway that won't leave you feeling to isolated. This campsite requires that you are self sufficient and you take any rubbish with you. The property is located on a slope overlooking Peak Alone. A stunning view to admire as you have a morning cuppa. Accessible by unsealed road by small or large car. I have driven up in a 6 metre long campervan and a small car. There is a number of established level pads ready for you to park up your campervan, car, pitch a tent or swag. The property is a 1 minute drive from the Cobargo main street, which has a brand new public toilet, excellent coffee (Valiant Coffee), an old school pub and a bunch of cute shops to explore. You are a 20 minute drive from Bermagui, which has beautiful beaches, cafes, restaurants, an Aldi and Woolies. You are surrounded by beautiful national parks, nature, bushwalks and beaches. There is a nice big firepit which you are welcome to use (BYO firewood), plenty of chairs and a big table for dining. There is also a half renovated caravan you are welcome to use to store goods or hang out in if the weather turns.

Overview

Set on the shores of Boulder Bay in the south coast, Tathra promises campers prime coastal views, sandy beaches, and excellent fishing. This seaside town may be on the smaller side, but the abundance of natural activities and national parks make it a haven for camping. Tathra beachside accommodations vary from rustic campsites for motorhomes to glamping in cosy cabins and safari tents. After a good night’s sleep, zip across the bridge to Mimosa Rocks National Park to scuba dive to shipwrecks and birdwatch along the shoreline before jetting off to Bournda National Park. Spend the day here trekking along the coastline while watching for more local bird species. Beowa National Park highlights even more wildlife, with incredible whale watching from a historical lighthouse.

Where to go

Mimosa Rocks National Park

Just across Bega River sits Mimosa Rocks National Park, only a 10-minute drive from Tathra. Find holiday parks for tents, camper trailers, and caravans in the area with on-site amenities like picnic tables, BBQ facilities, and toilets. Avid divers can wake up and scuba dive to the Paddle Steamer Mimosa, a shipwreck that lays just off the coast, while beginners can swim, snorkel, and fish in Moon Bay or Nelson Lagoon. Take in the picturesque views from a variety of different headlands, and watch for waterfowl along the shoreline year-round.

Bournda National Park

Found 15 minutes south of Tathra, Bournda National Park abounds with outdoor activities. Kayak the Bournda Lagoon or the waters of Wallagoot Lake before sauntering down Sandy Creek loop track, then keep an eye on the trees for native bird species while walking. Bournda campgrounds welcome swags, tents, camper trailers, and campervans with a range of facilities and amenity blocks with flush toilets, showers, and BBQ areas.

Beowa National Park

The stunning rocky coastline of Beowa National Park sits an hour and a half from Tathra. Take on Boyds Tower walking track, a favourite for beginners, or conquer the multi-day Light to Light walk for experts. History buffs can check out Green Cape Lighthouse, where wildlife watchers can also scan the seas for migrating whales. Campgrounds in the park offer basic amenities, but there are more luxurious accommodations available too. Take a break from the tent and get pampered in a bunkhouse or heated cottage vacation rental with bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and fresh linens.

When to go

Every season in Tathra offers something special, which makes it a first-rate choice for year-round camping trips. Feathered friends flock to Mimosa Rocks National Park throughout the year, and if whale watching is top priority, plan to visit in spring between September and November. The hot and humid summers that last from December until March are an ideal time for beach lounging and exploring the waterways in Bournda National Park. Campgrounds will be at peak capacity in summer, so plan ahead and reserve a pitch when possible.
