Enjoy relaxing relaxing around the campfire in our spacious campsites or enjoy a splash or paddle in the small creek. There is drinking water, a hot shower and a compost toilet available for campers.
There are a range of campsites available from the edge of the forest down to creek front sites (4WD only) and in the Pecan orchard. Please check by prior email during the wet season for specific access requirements.

Welcome to Emu creek Retreat
One of the best destinations for hiking, camping, bushwalking, swimming, Kayaking, fishing, mountain bike riding (bicycles only), bird watching, 4wdriving and even fossicking.,
Dogs, men's best friend, are definitely welcome. But if your dog is not friendly or is likely to venture into someone else camping area, than will have to be on a leash.
If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them.
One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities.
Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m high waterfall, nature at it's best. In the vicinity you have the Clarence river at Paddy's Flat Road and Hootons Road within minutes drive from the property.
The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road.
Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away.
Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km.
Once a working cattle property, in 1993 was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise.
Two properties combined with close to 2800 acres, fronting Paddy’s Flat Rd for 2km and extends 7km to the back fence bordering a 22000 acre cattle property.
The front section is undulating with plantation forest (spotted gum) and bushland, towards the back it has mountains, steep terrain and millions of trees with spectacular views and great hiking tracks.

Lucky’s Ridge is a 120acres property of bush, heavily timbered with straight eucalyptus, situated north NSW, near Tabulam, at the foot of great dividing range. It’s subtropical (summer rain, dry winter usually, no frost).
The primitive campgrounds have two compost toilets and two wood fired hot showers. Camp kitchen has a wood stove/oven, kitchen sink and benches (no fridge). All water taps are on rain water. There is a herb/veggies garden guest are welcome to pick from. Please be aware that there is only 12v power available (usb charging station), and Telstra reception is there but just and Optus is patchy.
I have friendly dairy goats, sheep, cows, pigs and horses roaming on the property, maintaining the grass short and fertilised (watch for the poop!), and chickens, duck and rabbits, all mostly free range in the Permaculture garden and orchards near the house. I'm into homesteading, and I grow and raise (and butcher) most of my food.
I enjoy sharing my land and experience with others, so I’ve recently had a primitive campground approved and open. It was mostly to host seasonal self reliant backpackers coming to pick blueberries at Mountain Blue, so it offers a bit more than just a place to camp, but it stays rather rustic. I’m also keen to host people interested in off grid living and sustainability or whoever wants to come and camp in this quiet, not crowded at all part of the bush. Hipcampers please be aware that from August til December, backpackers may be living at the campgrounds.
If you are interested in a garden tour, feeding the animals, milking the goats and/or pony rides, please let me know in advance.
We also have some mountain bike trails (jumps, etc) for keen riders (work in progress).

Great site options at Stuart's property! We found a shady spot amongst the trees. The outhouse is clean and has a great view.
Stuart also kindly lent us a gas bottle as mine had run out. Overall a wonderful stay despite the rainy weather.

Stayed 4 days , Very secluded and isolated from main road, no traffic noise, which was even better, the man made damn swim home was good size and kids played in most days, lots of space away from other campers, love sushi the dog, very playful and friend with us and our dog, lots of breeze and a great spot to camp. Owner is very laid back and chilled. Would recommend of this is your style of camp. Other campers kept to self but friendly when passing by. Really enjoyed the property and the privacy.

We were able to pick any spot we wanted. Very relaxed vibe and friendly. So much space that we didn’t need to be near anyone else and this was between Xmas and new year. Lots of shade and grass. Camped right next to the creek. Clean and well kept amenities. Daily visit from goanna.

We had a wonderful time at Stuart’s place. Very peaceful. We had 3 nights. Spent one day in nimbin the other in Mullumbimby. There was the hanging rocks 10 min away too. Great location to explore the area. I had the misses and 2 kids with me. They loved it too. Would recommend 👌

- It’s split into two halves, so have a look around and see what the spaces are like and what suits you. Back side might need 4wd to get in/out in wet conditions.
- We bought firewood, it was good, and lots of fire rings about.
- The creek is nice, very clean - different accesses depending on your camp spot.
- The train goes past but was not very loud in my opinion.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hidden Valley Camping and would stay there again. Note there are no tea Gardens or ice available and the firewood is not great.
Best bits:
* wildlife - fireflies!, bandicoots, lots of birds and domestic Guinea fowl and chooks
* the creek with swimming holes
* friendly people
* really quiet
Could improve:
* bathrooms - no soap, toilet paper hit and miss, needs a clean!
* a bit weedy, but I notice this a lot.

Loads of space to spread out and find quiet spots too, and awesome creek and swimming holes to explore. We loved Stuart's place for a peaceful getaway from the hustle & bustle. Is positioned perfectly for nearby walking trails & visits to quaint local villages. The Forest Gypsy tiny home is nestled amongst a beautiful canopy, is very private and has the basic essentials to get you through the day. A fire pit, sauna and nature pool were on offer but we didn't take advantage of these. Stuart was very kind to let us pick fruit from his orchard - the scent of the orange blossoms was divine. Sushi the dog happily greeted us each day, with plenty of cuddles & kisses. Taking in the clean country air, gazing at the night time sky and mingling with the resident fireflies was an absolute pleasure. Stuart was very personable & ensured our stay was most enjoyable :-). We will definitely be back.
