Black Mountain is remote but just 60 kilometres from Grafton or Coffs (via back way). 2WD access to our house is from Nymboida only. 4WD/AWD from Lowanna or Glenreagh and 4WD/AWD down to the river/campsite area - Not suitable for caravans. You will come here to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of `Black Mountain'. `Black Mountain’ is on Gumbainggir country. It is a registered conservation property bordering Nymboida River and Nymboi-Binderay National Park. Alastair and I have shared the property for more than 25 years and consider ourselves custodians of this precious place. Visitors enjoy: the pristine river; walking tracks through diverse terrain; starry night skies and campfires. Previous guests recommend staying at least two nights to soak up the atmosphere and explore the area. Choose from the 'Ant Shack' or four adjacent campsites with easy access and views to the Nymboida River. Shared facilities include a hot shower and composting toilets. You can walk, swim and kayak, explore the area or just relax for days. We can’t accommodate domestic animals or allow fishing, not even catch and release, because we protect our wildlife and the endangered Eastern Cod. Black Mountain is remote but just 60 kilometres from Grafton or Coffs (via back way). 2WD access to our house is from Nymboida only. 4WD/AWD from Lowanna or Glenreagh and 4WD/AWD down to the river/campsite area - Not suitable for caravans. All proceeds from Airbnb and Hipcamp are invested in the continuing conservation of Black Mountain.

Richard's farm is a massive piece of land and we were allowed to pick any spot. Richard is a gracious host who proved all the necessities for the travelers - fresh water and power. There is plenty of wood on site and Richard can lend you an axe if you feel up to it. Bring some carrots and apples to feed the neighbours horses - kids will love it. The site itself is reasonably leveled and we had no issues in parking our motorhome. Overall our stay was fun and enjoyable.

2 nights at Black Mountain Nymboida River 4/AWD

Beaut campsite overlooking the Nymboida 😊 We went walking along the well marked tracks early morning for a couple hours which were delightful with the quirky additions along the way. In the afternoon paddled out in the Nymboida river and had a dip. Camp fire in the evening and lots of fireflys around amazing. Great couple days n lucky good weather. Steep hill down but little Subaru handled it well 👍.

We had such a great stay at Petaurus Garden! Chris was an awesome host — he upgraded us to a larger tent since it was just me and my husband, and made sure we had everything we needed, including extra torches, lighters, and other essentials. He even offered us a bike ride, which was such a nice touch. We also went kayaking and explored the walking trails around the property- such a peaceful and beautiful spot. There was hot water available for tea and coffee too, which made the mornings even better. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing nature getaway! We will definitely be back 💛

Petaurus Gardens was beautiful. The ammenities were clean and well maintained and Chris made sure we never ran out of firewood. Riding the bike on the trails right next to the camping site was great and kayaking was also very fun, since we got to see the wildlife. Although be careful of snakes, especially when dark, since we saw a venomous one. Overall a great experience I would recommend! Hope to come back soon.

Peter's place is amazing...10/10. Beautiful location, very private, peaceful and secluded bush camping. It's a fair drive through the bush from the road along a 4wd track..taking you to your private campsite. There's a steep 4wd track down to the creek - a great spot for swimming. We will definitely be back!

We absolutely loved camping at Mer and Ben’s Hipcamp!! The property is beautiful, there is so much wildlife (particularly frogs) and the sites are very spacious and shaded. They provided us with a fire pit which was a great size! The toilet was very clean and the camp shower was a fun little experience and super handy to have. The property was easy to find and a short (20 mins ish) drive to the beach. As much as I want to keep this beautiful place a secret i genuinely think anyone that visits would have a much stronger relationship with nature and wildlife after their visit! Can’t wait to be back again!

Chris has done a most wonderful job of setting up his camp sites. Our Glamping Tent was very well appointed, extremely comfortable and in a beautiful setting. The toilets and showers were extremely clean and a pleasure to use. Chris went to a lot of trouble throughout our stay to provide the most excellent service. He provided firewood, extra blankets, tea and coffee, local area advice and a level of service we were not expecting in a camp site. The location is also brilliant. Only 30 minutes from Evans Head meant we had the best of both worlds. Privacy and seclusion in a bush setting along with easy access to towns and beaches. We were blown away with the effort Chris has gone to in order to provide the best possible experience for his guests. Congratulations!! P.S. The on-site Paddymelons were an unexpected treat.

My friends and I stayed in the glamping tents. It was very spacious and comfy. The Pataurus Native Gardens was the most relaxing and peaceful place. Chris was a fantastic host and well accommodating for his guests. The place itself says it all, native plants and wildlife were amazing and spacious. Nature walk was so peaceful and cooling for us. Our first family camping trip was absolutely magical, and it was all thanks to this beautiful spot and its host, Chris. From the moment we arrived, Chris made us feel welcome, helping us set up and even lending us some gear we didn't have—a table, chairs, and a bright light—all at no cost. This simple act of kindness made our first experience so much easier and more comfortable. The entire campground is clearly a labor of love, with perfectly manicured lawns and facilities that were spotless, including hot showers and clean bathrooms. They even deliver firewood right to your site, which was a huge convenience. The location is a nature lover's dream. We had a blast hiking the nearby trails, spotting vibrant birds and even some impressive iguanas. Being right next to a creek was a bonus, and I highly recommend renting a bike—I covered over 25km and loved every minute of it. The amenities, from the hot water boiler to the cold drinking water, just made everything so much easier. We couldn't have asked for a better first camping trip. This place is truly a hidden gem for families and anyone looking for a peaceful, well-cared-for getaway. We can't wait to go back!

*5/5 Stars* "Exceptional campsite experience! Chris, the owner, was super friendly and welcoming. The site was spotless and beautifully maintained, with a serene water body nearby. Chris went above and beyond, setting up our hired tent and providing an extra tent with a table, 5 chairs, and 8 sleeping mattresses at no extra charge. Despite arriving 4 hours late, Chris was patient and had everything ready for us. His hospitality and dedication to guest comfort are truly commendable. I had an amazing time here! Chris is just wonderful. He was so accommodating and arranged everything for us. The tents were cozy and comfortable to sleep in!
