Backing onto McPhersons forest, our campsites are ideally located within a short treck or bike ride into the forest.
The forest has a beautiful creek and waterfall, perfect for a day trip.
The property is conveniently located 1 hour from Sydney and just a 2 minute drive to groceries, food and a pharmacy and 7 minutes from the pub and a doctor.
A 30 minutes form town and close to attractions such as Glenworth Valley and Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary. Also Markets every 2nd and 4th Weekend.
The site currently does not have toilets or electrical facilities, but something we are working on. So please bring your own toilet and take with you.

Otford is a historic village in a valley between Sydney and Wollongong, and bounded by the Pacific ocean. Our private acreage backs onto the southern tip of the Royal National Park, so the outlook from the campsite is all leafy trees. Walk to lookouts over the ocean, hike down to the beach or a few minutes drive to dog friendly beaches. Our bathroom and kitchen facilities make it an easy experience for first time campers. We are well-behaved-dog-friendly BUT you must let us know in advance.
Our access track to the camping sites has been repaired with a deep layer of asphalt but still best suited to 4WD. The majority of standard 2WD cars manage the track fine There is also the option of parking roadside, and walking in approx 300m to the sites. Please message us if unsure about your vehicle.
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
1. Please let us know if you are bringing a dog/dogs - we have horses, house dogs, chickens and; wildlife plus likely other campers close by, so need to be forewarned. Dogs must be on lead or contained at all times.
2. If you need to camp out of your 4WD RV (such as a roof top tent), please contact me before booking to ensure those two particular vehicle sites are still available :) and that your vehicle is suitable for our track. Maximum length is approx 5m. Please scroll through the photos to see our amenities and camping sites.
3. We limit the number of people staying at any one time, so weekends book up quickly. That said, due to Covid and weather, people often cancel at the last minute too, so if we are currently booked out, it's always worthile checking again closer to the date for any availability.
We are on acreage (approx 7 acres) in Otford, surrounded by forest, backing onto the very southern end of the Royal National Park Sydney/Wollongong. Sleep under the stars, and to the hoot of our local owls, and yips of the gorgeous feather-tail gliders. Lovely, peaceful and private in a bushland backdrop but so close and just a hike to famous sites, beaches, cafes and bushwalking - so the perfect spot to stop, unpack and then go exploring.

Located just one hour from Sydney, our property features 19 acres of pure serenity with two dams and one large enough to kayak on (kayaks supplied). The back of the property is perfect for camping and suitable for a small to medium caravan/camper.
The larger dam has a picnic area and kayaks available to paddle on.
Adjoining our property is Nattai National Park with a lovely 20 minute walk down to Little River. The Aqua Pool Trail in the National Park is just gorgeous.
If you wish to try and catch some yabbies from the dams the only allowable and fun way is by a long stick and sausage. Hooks, fishing lines and traps are not allowed as we have people, dogs and horses swimming in the dams.
We welcome self-contained campers who bring their shower/toilet set up. We do have two drop pit toilets available and each campsite has a pit fire provided. We are getting low on firewood so you will need to bring some along with you. There is access to drinking water.
Our property is 2WD accessible and can accommodate small caravans and camper trailers.
Not far from Buxton is Thirlmere where the Steam Train Museum is and train rides are available on the weekends, a great activity for the kids. Thirlmere Lakes National Park is perfect for a relaxing picnic, walk, birdwatching, and glimpse into locomotive history. Mittagong and Bowral have great wineries with restaurant/bistro.
Pets are welcome.
There's a range of different bushwalking trails in the region, including Starlights trail, a scenic bushwalk suited to experienced hikers, which forms part the Greater Blue Mountains trail network between Mittagong and Katoomba.

Lucinda responded quickly to all enquiries. Lovely little bush camp for people with dogs. Fire pit was lovely and very clean compost toilets. So accessible to the little river and the lovely aqua pool. Certainly more expensive than most of the NSW parks but we haven’t used hip camp before.

Very nice Area! Lots of Wildlife and the journey to the little River was fun and a medium hike level. Our puppies absolutely loved it there and like to swim and run around. Very spacious areas so campers are not on top of each other.
Communication between myself and Luvina was easy and clear. Would definitely recommended and would love to stay again.

This is such a beautiful and precious hip camp. The people that run the farm are so lovely and very accomodating. They do tours on weekends and take you to their animals. /teach you about the farm and its history.
There is a really lovely waterfall and walk and the orchards are beautiful to walk around with tasteful oranges!
The funds raised from the hip camp goes to the Rotary charity in many countries it is a very cool concept.
We would highly recommend checking this out!

Really enjoyed our stay - next to two dams with turtles and yabbys !
The swimming hole was fantastic and beautiful to trek to - 15min.
Flushing w/c is available next to sites 1&2 which was a welcome surprise
Sites were spaced out adequately and kids enjoyed the kayaks on the dam

Directions and map were clear and the property is conveniently close to small towns / shops. The large dam looked inviting but we opted to go to the pools which was a 20min walk or so innthe heat, but definitely worth it is gorgeous! Composting toilet near site 5 was supriprisingly clean.

Lovely place. Very scenic and peaceful. Would benefit from toilet upgrade. We almost cooked inside the tin shed with the warm weather. No escape from warm weather with not being allowed in the water and not much shade. Caretaker was lovely. Kids loved the animals being around to say hello to. Would go back but maybe not in summer.

We enjoyed our stay at The Secret Getaway. The road into the camp ground was easy and accessible for 2WD cars. We were allocated camp #2, which had full exposure to the sun, so it got really hot on a 40deg day we were there.
But it didn't dampen our experience. We didn't swim in either dams (water was a little muddy) and Aqua Pool and Little River was about a 20-25min hike.
Luvina and Victor were great hosts. Instructions were clear and they were very responsive to msgs.
Would recommend it for families.

This is our second time visiting The Secret Getaway! This time we came with a group of friends and our dogs! To say we had a great time is an understatement- even with the 40 degree heat. Thank god for being able to swim in the dam. The sites are flat and easy to access. Since we went last time they have put in a flushable toilet which is a nice little addition. The composting toilets are perfectly fine though. Highly recommend this camp for big groups or just a quick getaway for a couple!

The campsite at Buxton was really lovely to have a true bush experience. We had a site with a fire pit which we enjoyed, and it was very close to a dam, which was lovely to cool down in a float around in on our Lilo's.. We are new to camping We're amazed at how clean and well thought out the toilets were.. the most amazing dropout I've ever seen with everything you need. We had an amazing walk to the aqua pools.. It is a quite a big walk and I recommend sturdy shoes and even aqua shoes for walking in the river.. It was a great experience and the children loved floating down the river and jumping off the rocks. The campsites were far enough away from others but enough to know that you weren't alone. It was really great for a first time.
Also checking in and out was easy. Highly recommend..

What a spot! Stunning views from the top of the mountain, rolling national park and sparkling stars. Brilliant spot to escape the city and relax in paradise. The hosts are great, with amazing communication throughout. Could not recommend this place more. Cheers for having us!

We stayed at The Furthest Reaches Site 2 and thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights there. The campsite is in a beautiful bush setting with a creek in front. The toilet is located closer to Site 1 which is just a short walk away. There was another couple camping on Site 1 but it still felt very private, and they were very friendly when we did cross paths. Matt is an awesome host, very friendly and helpful and a great communicator. He met us at the meeting point at the arranged time and drove with us into the site... All very easy and relaxed. Highly recommend Aurora and Matt

Had a wonderful time at Aurora, the stars were amazing and the privacy was unmatched. The host was prompt to reply to any questions and made us feel very welcome on arrival.
Definitely recommend for an off grid escape, make sure to have a 4WD or AWD for the short drive on the private road to the site.

À really interesting stopover close to Gosford. The family running the property were very friendly and there were a number of pleasant spots to camp. The creek and waterfall was a highlight.
