2 nights at Gawambaraay Views

This was our second Hipcamp experience, Ally and her parents Dave and Kim made us feel very welcome. We were met and directed to where we would be camping, the views are beautiful and you feel very isolated which is the experience we wanted! Our daughter loved watching the sheep and lambs in the paddock, very happy with our stay!

Quiet campsite, best night sleep I’ve had for a long time. Delicious wood fired pizza for dinner and for breakfast one of the best omelettes by far. And I couldn't go past buying some wonderfully crafted pottery. Wish I had the time to stay a couple of nights as there are heaps of bush walks and pottery classes. Will hopefully be back.

Our second time at Grahams, we love it here. Great vibe, gorgeous outdoor shower. Perfect place to watch the sunrise and see the colours of the sunset. Grahams a fantastic host. Super friendly and welcoming, always down for a chat Would recommend to naturists and non naturist

Weekend Trip to Breelong Valley

Had a nice one night camp with family. Grand kids like exploring the river. Definitely wear protective boots and watch out for Tiger pears. Enjoyed the farm fresh eggs.

1 night at Lisadan Cottage and Homestead

We are a family of 4, myself, my husband and our two sons, aged 10 and 12. This farm was beautiful. The hosts waited for us to arrive to feed their little lambs, and we were introduced to all the farm animals (at our request) before we got to our site. The two friendly donkeys kept their distance but stayed within eye sight of our van. We enjoyed a fire in the pit provided, there was plenty of wood around to collect and use. The grass was cut short within the camping area and the path. There was a drop toilet and little camp kitchen also. It was very lovely, quiet and peaceful! You couldn’t really see the house from the camp ground - giving it a very tranquil feel. We will definitely be back - but hope to stay longer next time!

What a fantastic campsite! We stayed at One Night and the views were spectacular. We were so grateful to be able to see the Warrumbungle while travelling with our dog. The campsite was well maintained with stunning sunset views of the mountain! We had kangaroos visit from a distance. Stu (James Dad) was a fantastic host - showing us where to camp and a big supply of firewood - and some limes for my G&Ts! Highly recommend and would love to come back!

Weekend Trip to YARRALLA on the Marthaguy

What a great tranquil spot provided by Peter & Sally. Plenty of flat open space with the best shelter with a gorgeous redwood & resin picnic table, with facilities only to be added to in the future were told. Excellent value, hope to return someday

Genise was very responsive and helpful in the booking and lead up to our stay at the Black Gate Distillery, and Brian was there to help us out on arrival. The amenities were in great condition, and the distillery and surrounds were very interesting to camp amongst. We enjoyed having a campfire, and enjoyed our stay in general. Thank you.

Weekend Trip to Mount Terrace

We stayed at Monkey Rock the first night. This site has a shelter and a toilet, which helped a lot because we arrived very late in the dark that night. We switched to Black wattle the next day. It is slightly bigger and the view of landscape is more open than Monkey Rock. We enjoyed both campsites and saw many wildlife throughout the stay. Kangaroos hoping around, Giant Wood Moth (the heaviest moth in the world) visiting us every night, many birds, goats and cattle on the farm. James and his family are super friendly and helpful too!

Weekend Trip to Barkala farmstay

We enjoyed our time here very well - there were a couple of campgrounds we could choose from, one which allowed the use of fire pits. Fire pits were spaced nicely so you weren’t on top of the next people over. The view of the stars was absolutely incredible, you’ll never see something like that in the city. Toilets on the campground were composting, so as to be expected for a campsite, but there were flushing toilets and showers available near the cafe which was great. The staff were all very friendly and hospitable - very lovely to speak to. The pottery itself was absolutely beautiful, and we took a glazing class, which was a really great way to spend a rainy morning. We can’t wait to see our creations in 8 weeks time when they get sent out :) The cafe made some really nice coffee too. The directions provided were easy to follow and the road was a little bumpy but nothing to stop the standard car coming through. We saw goats and pigs running wild along the road which even though they’re a pest, they added to the charm of being in nature :)

We had a great time camping at the Kellie’s Campground of Barkala Farm. The campground was spacious and easy to get comfortable. Amenities were limited, as you expect for off-grid campsite, match the description on the listing. We enjoyed pottery workshop and free clay play as well as animal feeding. There are lovely decorations around the cafe and pottery. Lots of cute little houses and clay art pieces. Fresh scones and homemade gelato at the cafe were delicious. Pool, trampoline and playground were great fun for the kids. We would definitely recommend staying here for the experience.

Fantastic location and great hosts. They were very helpful in leading us to the remote camp location and provided lines and Easter eggs for the kids. Would definitely go back!

1 night at Barkala farmstay

We stayed for one night and really enjoyed the experience. We took part in a pottery lesson, which was a fun and relaxing activity. The staff at the café were friendly, and we loved that they served coffee in handmade cups crafted in their own pottery studio. There were plenty of beautiful ceramic items available for purchase, adding a nice touch to the visit. The campsite offers different areas to stay in, so it’s worth double-checking which one you’re booked into before arriving. The surrounding nature was beautiful, and we spotted lots of wild goats along the dirt roads—definitely a unique sight! Despite driving a low city car, we had no issues reaching the site. The toilet next to the café was impressively clean, and overall, the place felt well maintained. We think it’s worth staying for at least a couple of nights to fully enjoy the atmosphere. All in all, it was a great experience that we’d happily recommend.

Barkala Farmstay is a self-sustaining farm located off the grid, supplying our own water and solar electricity. The Farm is a grazing property situated on 13,000 acres surrounded by the tranquil Pilliga Forest. Only access is a 10km dirt road of the Newell Highway, north of Coonabarabran (follow directions below). As well as farm animals, the farm hosts a thriving community of birds and well- designed bush tracks where you can discover local wildlife, plants, Aboriginal artifacts, great lookouts, sandstone cliffs and caves all in the midst of the Pilliga Forrest. Barkala Farmstay is also home to Pilliga Pottery and the Blue Wren Bush Cafe (closed Wednesdays), offering pottery demonstrations and workshops, traditional European inspired fresh foods with ingredients from our organic green house and homemade Gelato. The property offers two camp sites, Goanna and Kellies Campground, which are freely available to anyone who books a camping stay with us. There are no allocated camping spots in either campground, thus it is first come, first serve. We offer large camping spots with no campground boundaries hence there is space for vehicles of any size. Both camping sites offer compost toilets and showers (although we encourage short showers due to our off-grid, self-sustaining farm). You are welcome to stop by the reception upon check-in to hear more about our campgrounds and we can help you find the perfect camp spot and tell you more about what we have to offer. Campers are welcome to enjoy feeding of our farm animals, our saltwater pool and campfires. Firewood can be collected on the property by yourself, or you can visit the reception to buy firewood. There is no phone reception close to any buildings but free limited Wi-Fi in the cafe area.

The Marthaguy Campground on 'Yarralla' is located on the Newell Highway 5 km south of Gilgandra - The town of the Windmills. 55 km North of Dubbo with easy access to the Dubbo Western Plains Zoo and 80 km South of the Warrumbungle National Park. The campground is 800m off the Newell Highway tucked in on the Marthaguy Creek out of highway sight. Yarralla is a working mixed farming enterprise running sheep, cattle and cropping. The campground also overlooks a large dam with a Jetty. The campground offers a safe and secure location to camp away from town with a shelter shed with water over a sink, a picnic table and a hot shower. Wood is available for a camp fire during winter months.

Overview

The gateway to Warrumbungle National Park, Coonabarabran is a great spot for caravan campers who love nature, hiking and astronomy. The closest town to Siding Spring Observatory and Warrumbungle—which was named Australia’s first Dark Sky Park—Coonabarabran has unofficially become Australia’s astronomical capital, with campers coming from far and wide to check out the sights (and the stars). There are a variety of different options for caravan camping in Coonabarabran and around nearby Warrumbungle National Park, including dog-friendly caravan parks and caravan campgrounds with swimming pools. Very popular with caravan campers, especially in the summer months and during school holidays, Camp Blackman in Warrumbungle National Park also offers a handful of powered sites, though other amenities are limited compared to the caravan parks in Coonabarabran. The town of Coonabarabran is also very caravan friendly, with a free 24-hour dump point (suitable for big rigs) and taps to fill up with both potable and non-potable water.
