We absolutely love this location. It’s our second time visiting Pan’s land and it covers every bit of what we were looking to do!! Quiet, beautiful view, biking, fishing, hiking (the path down to the river will def get your heart rate up!-esp with a bike!!), water+electric yet “rough” with a outhouse and cold shower and a short ride to a delicious birthday dinner + ice cream - this site is a gem. We’ll be back :)

Absolute gem spot, I prefer rough camping, but the added electric, shelter and water was an awesome addition. Great views, trails, built-in rooster alarm clocks 🤘🏼

We loved this tent shelter spot with a beautiful view of the New River! It felt like a little upgrade from normal tent camping since we had such a sturdy shelter, a nice picnic table, a sink, etc. It was wonderful being able to see the stars and the sun rise from our sleeping bags each day. We will definitely be back to this spot! Super easy to find and a beautiful little area.

Stunning views! Adorable ‘shelter/cabin’ Love the twinkle lights. Prepare for a hike to the river. It’s a leg work out. Very secluded and sweet spot. My sprinter is 23’. (No where to turn around) but I backed it down the hill and got it situated. Be prepared if you have a larger vehicle.

I feel extremely misled about this site. The only view you have of the River is when you’re standing out on the shelter, which in itself is unique and beautiful. But it is no where close to the river. And extremely close to the owners home. You can see their house right thru the thin bamboo.You can’t even actually get down to the river. To get to the New River Trail, you have to go down at least half a mile on a very steep and uneven decline. After that, you’ve still got another 10 minute steep decline, and then you get to the trail. But like I said, there’s still no access to the beautiful river.
Not to mention, we were told we could drive down the steep half a mile and camp “by the river”. So we went down, and you can barely call it a site. It’s so overgrown with weeds. We had to move the picnic table ourselves so we could actually sit on it. Same thing with the fire pit. And the host was terrible about responding to my messages. It took days every time for a response.
We reserved the site for 2 nights, but barely spent over 12 hours there. If we hadn’t been driving all day, we wouldn’t have even stayed that long. I messaged the host after we had left explaining how misled I felt, and no response or apology at all.

I loved this campsite at Pam's Camping. The place is incredible, with a privileged view and you can relax to the sounds of the river and nature.
Everything is very organized and clean, with easy access to trails on the New River. I definitely want to come back soon.

We loved it! Great place for a little getaway weekend with a dog. Quiet and peaceful. Our puppy enjoyed exploring and running around. We would be looking forward to visiting the camp again!

It was an awesome spot. Views were great and very easy to get to. There’s a Dollar General and other stores nearby which makes it easy to get food. The only bad thing is that it’s not 54 acres of just your site like it says. There’s are four houses around it but I never heard any of them. Highly recommend going to stay the night there.

The road to the place is a bit sketchy. There was no where to turn around in a transit van and we barely pulled into the 4×4 river road to get turned around and could not back up. We had to hire a tow company to pull us out. We were informed if it was raining that we needed to park at the top of the hill so we could get out. That's a good 300 yards to walk with camping stuff down a hill side. Also, there really isnt any flat ground outside of the end of the road to setup a tent or inside the camping shelter itself. There were black ants constantly attacking every food item within mins and bees nests under the camping structure and even in the shower area. The entire place is on a hill/mountain side and not child friendly at all. The walk to the river is at least half a mile or more. And still there isnt any access to the water until you walk away mile further to the campground. The river does sound nice from the camping structure and the owner who lives visibly through the bamboo forest on the other side of the structure is very very kind. I hate leaving negative reviews but I feel as though the place has been misrepresented.

We loved our stay. They view was absolutely beautiful and you can hear the river as well. We were blessed with a beautiful starry night too. The shower was nice and clean, we did not use the port a John but was nice to have at the site. Loved the fact we had water and electricity as well.

What a find. Roofed platform for tent, cold shower (perfect). Pit toilet (perfect). Walk down and sit in the river (perfect). Drive down to town and eat at the Dam Steakhouse (perfect). Sleep to the sound of the river below (perfect). Roosters in the A.M. (not perfect, but funny).

Pan’s spot is fantastic. We had a rainy weekend so the covered space was a trip saver. Nice walk to the New River Trail. Steep walk down and steep walk back.

We had the best week ever at Pan’s. The shelter is perfect, kept us dry and warm, and it never got old waking up to the view of the New River. Deer walked around the campsite in the early mornings/ evenings and we saw some wild otters while at the river.
The running water made dishes and cooking super simple, but is not drinkable out of the tap so bring drinking water. There is a general store up the road (<5 mins) that is very convenient for replenishing ice, firewood and other supplies.
As other reviews have stated, the trail down to the New River is not for everyone, with coming back to the shelter being mostly uphill. Bring water and wear hiking shoes if you can. There is also lots of poison ivy around so we also wore long pants while hiking.
Thank you Pan for sharing your space. I would encourage anyone looking to connect with nature or wanting a beautiful, quiet spot to themselves to book with Pan.

Beautiful site, and super helpful host! We enjoyed the comforts of having a sink, an overhead light, outlets, and small roof for our tent and supplies, especially when a thunderstorm rolled through unexpectedly. The fireflies were an added bonus!

Pan's camping shelter overlooking the New River is tranquil. We stayed two nights, and it was a great place to experience nature. The site has a view of the river and a path down to the New River Trail. We saw a deer run through the campsite, and three deer swimming across the river. The shelter was a great place to wait out a few rain showers we experienced over the weekend. I would recommend staying at this campsite.

Wonderful place! Truly breathtaking view. Perfect for two tents- one under the enclosure and one near the fire pit. River is not as accessible as we would imagined; it's quite a hilly hike down to it- definitely not meant for everyone! But we were able to drive a few minutes to Fries and have a relaxing serene river/beach vibe. Also, small fridge in photos wasn't there, but the running water made cooking and washing dishes very easy. Highly recommend this place.

Wow! What a beutiful place to stay. The views and the stars at night were beautiful. The new river trail was walking distance down the hill and we got to see and hang by the river. Definitely recommended.

This site was perfect! Pan has electricity running to the covered platform, as well as a sink with running water (cold only). There is an outhouse with toilet paper and a cold water shower. Both are private and both have solar motion sensor lighting to light the inside as soon as you walk up to either. I car camped so I backed up facing the river. You can hear the river rushing from the site. If you are looking for remote, it’s definitely not Alaska. However, it’s very private. The home is within sight (very limited) and sound. However, I could only really hear the river and the crickets! It also brought me comfort as a solo traveler knowing someone wasn’t too far away but it still felt remote. All-in-all, it was beautiful, well cared for and definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely amazing!!! I cannot say enough about how great this night was. I was solo with my dog heading north and stumbled upon a gem. The shelter has everything you need and all the things you don’t. Views were spectacular, even after the sun set. It’s a good walk down to the river but well worth it.
