Ray’s was very nice and peaceful! I was unfortunately only able to stay one night, but I hope to return soon! I recommend bringing your own linens and pillows if you stay in a cabin

My husband and I, our almost 5 year old and 1 year old pup stayed in the A-frame and it was magical. The campground wasn't busy during our stay . The A Frame is very quiet and secluded. It was so dark at night- when you walked out into the clearing, the stars were breathtaking. Our daughter enjoyed the cot provided. The sound of the cicadas and frogs in the nearby pond filled the night with song. We had crazy thunderstorms with heavy rain, so glad we chose to cabin camp. The camp hosts were very friendly. We ran into them from time to time and they were always willing to help and make us feel welcome. There's a communal lounge/game room and kitchen, which was great to wash our dishes. Behind it is the playground and a pavilion. They have a fresh pot of coffee on, seemingly, at all hours. Firewood & ice were reasonably priced and laundry was $4/ load with detergent provided. We needed it because the trails were a muddy mess following the rain. Bathrooms/ Showers were kept clean. The side of the AFrame takes 2 people of normal height to get up. Keep in mind because it's so dark, on a clear night, you are the light in the woods, so moths will get confused and come in. Very few mosquitoes though. We just felt bad trapping in the moths but had fun IDing them! The bed was cozy. There are hooks by the door and the metal side of the frame worked well as low clearance shelves. It was a gorgeous, spacious, fun, and unique place. Would recommend if you don't mind nature coming in a bit

Stayed two nights in the A frame and slept great! Very relaxing place and convenient to summer Summersville lake and the gorge.

Ray's Campground is chill and friendly, mostly rafters and families. Convenient location, easy access. However, in the reservable sites (I had 5) the tent spots are about 5 feet from the gravel road. When the late arrivals started coming in, I thought they might literally drive over me. And then, a parade of chatty campers cruching down the road toward the bath house. And then, when I'd finally fallen asleep, the semis gearing up the grade on the nearby highway. If you want to SLEEP at Rays, I highly recommend the first-come-first-serve sites off the gravel road downslope from the bathhouse. Those are large, wooded, quiet, and cheaper! Take a chance. Pay cash. Sleep soundly, then play hard.

While the a-frame was adorable, I have very mixed reviews about this campground. On the maps on Hipcamp, the a-frame is completely isolated from the rest of the campground. When we arrived, there were multiple tent spots/picnic tables set aside nearby. If the campground had been a little busier and those spots had filled more then the point of my renting the a-frame would have been gone. Our first night, we realized that if you kept the lights on after dark every moth in the woods would end up inside with us. The clear side had a spot open enough to allow moths to come in one by one. The fridge was not working and there was a note left about it, but that was not told to us before we arrived and we had to change our meal plans the rest of the weekend to compensate for lack of proper refrigeration. They did offer free ice, but I did not feel as though that was a viable option in 90 degree heat over an entire weekend for cold food. The outside electric light is sketchy and only worked part of the time and the only decent outlet is right above your head when you’re in bed. The camp bathrooms weren’t the worst I’ve seen but the stalls are so small that an older lady with a walker had to use the bathroom with the door wide open and I locked eyes with another camper in the mirror over the stall as we were pulling our pants up. Staying here was good for our two nights, but I would not stay again. The campground is very close by to the sights, and that saves it by a lot.

Great campground!!! Very peaceful, sites are decent size. Laundry facilities available, along with clean showers and restrooms. Have a nice game room along with trails. Easy access to interstate.

Excellent Location, Nice Campground

We had a great two nights at Ray’s. Our hosts were friendly and helpful. They (appropriately!) called us out when we drove in too fast one evening. Everything was pretty rustic, but reasonably clean and well maintained. Plenty of hot water for showers and dishes. The location is ideal for taking advantage of all the outdoor activities in the area — just minutes from several river adventure outfitters. Great value!

We had the best time at Rays! We were at the tailend of a two week camping roadtrip and booked a cabin at Rays so we could leave our crated dog in a cabin instead of a tent. The campground hosts, Jake and Kat, were so friendly and accomodating. They gave us the lay of the land and even accomodated a last minute cabin change when my 11-year old felt nervous about how far our original cabin was from the bathouse (we weren't far but he was nervous for a potential 2am need to go). I'm npt sure when we'll be in WVA again but when we are, we'll be at Rays. Thank you for a wonderful time!

I can’t say enough about this place! We haven’t relaxed like that in a while! The aframe was secluded and quiet. Grate was provided to cook over the fire. The dogs loved all the smells and the bed was comfy! We both said we will be making this our regular spot when we need a weekend away! Also the owner was super responsive if we had any questions!

The host is very friendly and quick to offer the use of the clubhouse and kitchen facilities. The campground has a very laid back vibe. We rented the Idaho cabin and it was very comfortable. A floor fan and space heater are provided if you need them. We were there on a Thursday night and it was very quiet.

I didn’t end up staying there. I accidentally booked the wrong day and he courteously canceled. However, I was charged for the stay and don’t yet have those funds back so I can’t whole heartedly recommend at this point.

Quiet, Private, Beautiful.

I'll just get these 2 negative things out of the way so someone else doesn't stay and give a bad review. Because it doesn't deserve a bad review, The place is Amazing, However if you're a light sleeper then a windy Autumn stay probably isn't for you because the leaves land on and slide down the roof and sides and its rather loud. Also something randomly flaps around on the roof in high winds making alota noise, The bed is super cozy, The place is very private and is just a relaxing environment to be in. Me and my Dog would stay again (Not in the Autumn 🤣)

The A-Frame at Ray's Campground was absolutely perfect - rustic, beautiful surroundings, and removed from noise. The design and furnishings were simple yet more than enough for someone who is out hiking and exploring.

We stayed at Papa's place cabin. It was simple but clean and the campground office space was nice to watch a show or make some food. We only stayed one night but it worked well for us! The cabin had one outlet for a light and a fan and a heater which was nice heating it up a little in October. 🙂
