You may see tools and signs of recent work etc.. Located on a paved section of Owley Road in Mount Ida Arkansas. This is a large 2 acre property with four cleared sites that offer plenty of room for any size tent(s). Generators are welcome and pets are too. The property is bordered by old growth national forest and an ice cold spring fed stream is located in the national forest behind the property. The best camping near Greeson Lake guide

Overview

About

Located on the scenic Little Missouri River, Greeson Lake is one of a trifecta of lakes within the Ouachita River Basin. The lake is approximately 12 miles long and surrounded by a healthy 16,000 acres of beautiful public lands.

If the lake was a scout, it’d be well deserving of a merit badge for a wealth of fish species that includes striped, spotted, white and largemouth bass, and catfish. Plus the area directly below Narrows Dam yields an enormous supply of rainbow trout. The 35,000-acre public hunting area west of the lake offers rabbits, squirrels, bobwhite quail, and whitetail deer. A nearby trail lets you explore the old Cinnabar Mine (I know, we wish it was a Cinnabon mine too), and the more extensive Bear Creek Cycle Trails opens you up to 31 miles of beauty around the lake with rolling hills and pine covered forests.

Notable campgrounds

  • Cowhide Cove - A family-friendly spot with 50 campsites, offering a boat ramp, playground, and a swim beach.
  • Kirby Landing - Features 87 campsites with two boat ramps and a swim beach, perfect for water enthusiasts.
  • Self Creek/Jim Wylie - Offers 76 campsites near Daisy, complete with concrete boat ramps and picturesque swim beaches.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early by calling the National Recreation Reservation System or visiting recreation.gov to secure your spot.
  • Consider visiting during the off-season for better availability and quieter camping experiences.
  • Keep an eye on cancellations, as last-minute openings can provide unexpected opportunities.
  • Explore nearby camping options to increase your chances of finding a great campsite.

When to go

The prime time to visit Greeson Lake is from spring to fall, when the weather is warm and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer months offer the full range of recreational activities, though they can be busy. Winters are quieter but cooler, with some facilities potentially closed.

Know before you go

  • Always wear a life jacket when on the water, regardless of your swimming abilities.
  • Check the generation schedule for Narrows Dam to plan safe boating and fishing trips.
  • Be aware of the fluctuating water levels and underwater hazards near the shoreline.
  • Remember that Arkansas Game and Fish Commission regulations apply for hunting in the area.
  • Day use fees apply for boat launching and beach use, with annual passes available for frequent visitors.
