To get to the rock shelter you need to do a short hike in a rocky trail, mostly steep, sometimes muddy and climb an inclined (drilled into the rock and ground) 10ft ladder with no hand rails.

🗺 Your rock shelter name is Refugio Caney. You will have a video in your self check in instructions to make it easier for you to get there on your own. You need to bring good grip shoes for the trail and your hands should be totally free. Bathroom and parking spot are located at the entrance of our property, at about 3-4 minutes hiking from the rock shelter.

By kayak you may visit, preferably at new moon night, one of the 20ths world's unique Bioluminiscent Bay. PR has 3 and one of those is just minutes away to experience!
You'll get to the shack house by a dirty and bumpy road, 32 steps up stairs, must be in shape!
Also you can anchor your boat almost in front of the property (there is no dock for boats there, but you may dock your dingy while visiting Parguera Village, advanced notification has to be made for arrangement.)
Birds, lizzards, manatees, starfishes, stingrays, dolphins, brilliant stars night and breathtaking blue skies, don't say about our sunsets and sunrises! Amazing cays are another natural atractions, ask for Mata La Gata sea pool area. Water in front of the house isn't suitable for swimming if you are not related to waters surrounded by mangroves but you may visit Parguera sea sighting by your boat, by in site boat rental at Parguera, parasailing, diving and many other tours... By car there are plenty of different kind of beaches at nearby towns. There are safe trails to explore.
You may search for Parguera, PR, to take a glance of what you are missing!

You need to bring good grip shoes for the trail and your hands should be totally free. Bathroom and parking spot are located at the entrance of our property, at about 3-4 minutes hiking from the rock shelter.

My Little Shack is a wooden structure property with kitchen and living room open spaces, it has 1 private room with 1 full bunk bed and another full size bed, one bathroom. No a/c, tv, microwave, hot water. Capacity for 4 adults.
By kayak you may visit, preferably at new moon night, one of the 20ths world's unique Bioluminiscent Bay. PR has 3 and one of those is just minutes away to experience!
You'll get to the shack house by a dirty and bumpy road, 32 steps up stairs, must be in shape!
Also you can anchor your boat almost in front of the property (there is no dock for boats there, but you may dock your dingy while visiting Parguera Village, advanced notification has to be made for arrangement.)
Birds, lizzards, manatees, starfishes, stingrays, dolphins, brilliant stars night and breathtaking blue skies, don't say about our sunsets and sunrises! Amazing cays are another natural atractions, ask for Mata La Gata sea pool area. Water in front of the house isn't suitable for swimming if you are not related to waters surrounded by mangroves but you may visit Parguera sea sighting by your boat, by in site boat rental at Parguera, parasailing, diving and many other tours... By car there are plenty of different kind of beaches at nearby towns. There are safe trails to explore.

This place enchants the heart, by simply surrendering to the magic landscape visuals and sounds all around and within this site. You hear nothing but purity on this marvelous site, from the sounds of 5 species of coqui frogs and so many native birds from local endemics to native resident birds and migratory passerines and birds of pray. I grew up in PR and explored the island thoroughly for nearly 30 years and I had never been on a place where I heard seven to eight pairs of PR screech owls joyfully chanting all at once from all around. A relatively short hike within the property takes you into another realm down by the river where isolation is bliss. A night hike through the property trees brought me so much wonder from hundreds of fireflies and the night orchestra from owls, coquies and so many insect sounds. 2 nights at My Little Shack by the Sea
This property was everything we expected it to be and more! Here is who, in my humble opinion, would likely love this place: anyone looking for a tropical breeze, quiet evenings and spectacular sunsets! Our only regret is not bringing food supplies so that we could fix our own dinners instead of having to go out each evening. The loud noises “La Parguera” generates, something we are all too familiar with in Puerto Rico, is conveniently blocked by “Punta Papayo”. You will, however, not be immune to the noise or “voseteo” generated by boaters passing by during the day or the flotilla of boats parked at “Cayo Caracoles” a mile away in the water. However, they will go home as soon as the sun sets and you will be treated to the small waves crashing upon the shore the entire night. It will be so quite at night that you will in fact hear fish splashing on the water. Some of the reviews I read beforehand complained about bugs, somehow forgetting they are on a tropical island. If unsure about the bugs, first re-read the description of the place then play it safe and get a mosquito net on Amazon ($9).
We in fact CANNOT WAIT TO RETURN and next time we will be staying longer!

We had a nice time at Refugio Caney and loved that it was so close to climbing and that the tent and mattress were provided. A couple of things to note: if you're 6ft tall, you can only fully lay out in the tent if you do so diagonally. You can hear the freeway from the tent, but it didn't bother us. Also, the climbing day pass is paid for separately. Refugio Caney is cool and we loved climbing the ladder to get to the tent and seeing all the trees in the morning when we woke up. The owners are super nice and we enjoyed chatting with them!

My husband and I had the best time camping here, we are already planning another trip back! Luis' land is beautiful and he was such a gracious host. Ive been camping 4 times in PR, at all different sites and this site by far was the best. It had plenty of tables and chairs, a huge covered area, running water and hot showers as well as both a charcoal and gas grill. We had a group of 16 and there was space for 2x that number of people. The view was amazing and the river below was a great activity for the kids (ages 2-4 in our group) although the hike up from the river (~20 minutes) was a bit of a workout. I give it a 5 star review and will be back.

It is difficult to overstate just how wonderful this place is. Andres gave us clear and concise directions on how to get there, via pre-recorded video, and that made it easy to get there. The drive itself was marvelous because for the most part you are high on the mountains.
We are avid campers and brought everything we needed but have to say that the outdoor kitchen/gazebo was pretty darn cool and convenient! There is a stove, kitchen sink, a “fogón” (cooking fire pit) as well as a full size refrigerator. This was more “Glamping” than “camping”. We camp every month on full moon as I love to watch the moonrise as well as the moonset and this place was particularly special for that.
As someone that grew up in Puerto Rico but lived most of my adult life outside the island, what I can tell you about the area is that the residents are extremely friendly, well manners and considerate that I am otherwise accustomed to. Everybody we saw whether driving on or driving out would wave at us, as if we were known to them.
I hope you try this place and when you do, I am confident you are definitely going to enjoy it.

What an awe-inspiring, beautiful and grounding experience in Utuado. Our stay at TJ Ranch was more than we hoped for and exceeded our expectations. Tina's warmth, hospitality and farm-to-table meals left us feeling taken care of in a way that moved us to extend our stay an additional night. The cabins were clean and well-kept. The land was a unique perspective of the mountains and the stargazing was phenomenal.
Our kids enjoyed the pool and especially the animals. Tina and her family took the time to show them their daily farm routine and maintenance.
Be prepared for a windy, uphill drive to get there, but it's totally worth it!
We would recommend this gem to anyone looking for a unique, off-the-beaten path place to unwind in Puerto Rico! We certainly look forward to returning in the future!
