I wish i could live there!
This was my second time staying at Dustin's place and I love it! Next visit I will definitely be staying more than one night. Dustin is a welcoming host and the property is amazing. If you are looking to commune with nature this is a great spot. The Bell tent is large, comfortable and private and awesomely convenient if your not up for setting up your own tent.
Nature fuels the soul
Dustin's Parkland Retreat was the perfect getaway to fuel the soul. Coming from the midwest, I had not heard much about Alabama and was blown away by the beauty in the foothills of the Appalachians. It exceeded my expectations. We stayed in the yurt, althought there are 3 other campsite areas around the property for tent camping also. Dustin was welcoming and a laid back conversationalist. We loved learning about the property and how he incorporated in sustainability and being off grid. We hiked the beautiful ridgeline trails that border the Talladega National Forest and swam/tubed the crystal clear creek. There is even a waterfall nearby off the property not too far! I would highly reccommend and can't wait to travel back to this little gem. Please read all the information before booking. If you are uncomfortable with clothing optional settings this may not be for you. We are fairly open minded and were not pressured (your choice is respected) and really enjoyed this as our first experience to have that choice.
Parksland was magical and totally exceeded our expectations. There were little surprises around every corner that made this place extra cool. The two mile hike was beautiful, a great workout, and introduced us to all of the special things about this property. We enjoyed the swimming hole immensely and even caught a few small fish. The hot shower was perfect after a great nights sleep in the bell tent. The tent itself is specious, clean, and very comfortable. Dustin and staff have thought of everything to make this space cozy and comfortable. All in all, a perfect weekend get-away from the hustle and bustle of the real world. We will definitely be back!
Beautiful, free in nature retreat!
I was in serious need of an unplugging from the “real world.” So for my birthday, my man took me to Parksland Retreat, a little slice of paradise we found on HipCamp, located in a secluded small mountain spot surrounded by the Talladega National Forest. There are some great cliff views around the outskirts of the property.
We had no electricity, no wi-if, no cell service, no neighbors close by and no drama. It was ideal. The land was absolutely gorgeous. There are about two miles of trails peppered with fresh mountain creeks you can wade or lay back in and one deep enough to swim in. The water felt phenomenal on a warm August day, so cool and clean!
We slept in a bed in a 16” diameter bell tent on a yurt platform (so really we “glamped” a bit), and had one of the best meals I have ever eaten, burgers on the open flame. A tree clearing above would allow for an excellent view of the stars when the weather cooperates, but I think Laura’s south bands obscured them. The tent’s middle pole had just enough battery powered string lights so you could see inside when needed, but they didn’t overpower the mood of the place.
Our host Dustin was incredibly nice and accommodating! It was just all around good vibes. He was even a sport when having to get up early with us to chainsaw a fallen tree off the exit road, which I am sure is not how he wanted to spend his Sunday morning! He goes out of his way to make the retreat a comfortable place to get away.
The camp at Parksland was truly a magical experience. The area is beautiful, the sites are well maintained, Dustin was very helpful and welcoming. We were pleased with every aspect of our experience and can’t wait to go back soon!🤩
