Such an amazing place. Never seen that many stars literally ever. Host was super awesome, he answered any questions I had within a few hours of our spontaneous arrival. We will come back here without question, it was such a beautiful spot.

I stayed for two weeks and had a wonderful time! It’a relatively quiet, peaceful, and the sky is dark so you can stargaze. I saw the Milky Way, comet Lemmon, and a dozen shooting stars. You get to see both the sunset and sunrise. I enjoyed the swing and the ample amount of space that the site offered. You are close to town for anything you may need. And consider taking a day trip out to the mountains! I honestly did not want to leave, but I needed to get going on my roadtrip. I’ll absolutely be back here!

This spot was the perfect layover for me in Roswell. I booked last minute, and I’m so grateful that Martha was able to make it work. It’s a sweet, peaceful place—very quiet at night—with a wonderful swing that made it extra special. The site offers a full hook-up for the camper, and the privacy made it feel like my own little retreat. I couldn’t have asked for a better stop.

The more Hipcamp hosts I visit, the more I congratulate and appreciate their creativity, hard work and dedication.
This is most attractive yet! Interestingly, now both of my favorite spots are in New Mexico.
An acre to yourself with a green patch, grass, trees and all to be comfortable on while you enjoy your stay on your private ranch.
Absolutely loved it!!
I almost forgot about the two goats that were the welcoming committee.

(Review written by wife) This was a cute spot. I ordered eggs and they were waiting for us in an adorable cooler basket when I got in. Every hook up and ammenity is labeled with adorable labels. The host was responsive. We showed up late in the evening and left early a few mornings later and we spent most of our time out and about so we didnt get to officially meet our host face to face and she was still accommodating and informative about how to get in and set up.

This site is a MUST! My 2 pups and I have e been on the road for 13 days so far and this place was by far the nicest ive been. Id come back 1000 times. The landscape was beautiful the site was cute (there was a little lasso setup which made for a good laugh. The sunset was something to write home about for sure. Sunrise was nearly just as magical. Got the best sleep of my life and took some of the prettiest photos. I could not recommend this site enough.

The site is nice and remote but not far from Main Street. Be careful if you arrive at night. The turn is before the big rock. A big caution about the area. When we arrived the picnic table was COVERED in thick spider web. There was a huge black wooden spider who have turned the whole table into its nest. Also be aware there are cattle on this land. We were awoken one morning by 5 of them scratching their heads on the side of our camper. Not a big deal and my wife found it funny but just FYI. There is a fire pit and a cooking grate on site. Which was nice. Overall a good spot. Just could benefit from the host doing some checking on it before people arrive to clear out any dangerous spiders that have setup shop.

About
Legend has it that the nine sinkholes at New Mexico’s first state park are not only bottomless (hence the park’s name), but home to a gigantic monster turtle! Of course, the myths aren’t true, but these azure-blue cenotes still provide plenty of opportunities for adventure. Paddle your way around the gleaming blue pools, head to Lake Lea to swim or scuba dive, enjoy fishing and birding around the lakeshores, or hike the trail between the lakes. Campers can take their pick of four campgrounds, all by the lakeside, and the quirky Roswell UFO Museum is an easy day trip away.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for RVs: Lea Lake Campground has it all—full hookups, pull-through or back-in sites, and space for big rigs up to 60 feet.
- Best for crowd-free camping: Devil's Inkwell Campground has a single tent/RV site with direct access to a small fishing lake.
- Best for hikers: Figure 8 Lake Campground provides tent/RV camping just a few steps from the Bluff Trail.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- You can reserve sites at Lea Lake Campground online via the New Mexico State Parks website. The other campgrounds are only available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Online reservations can be made up to six months in advance.
- Campsites can book up as fast, especially for holiday weekends, so book at least three months in advance.
When to go
New Mexican summers are best spent by the lakeside, and the crowds flock to Bottomless Lakes State Park from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This is the best time for swimming and getting on the water, although it’s often still warm enough through spring and fall. The park’s campgrounds stay open year-round, so plan a winter visit if you want to escape the crowd. Bonus: November through March is fishing season.
Know before you go
- Bottomless Lakes State Park sits 14 miles southeast of Roswell. It’s a more than three-hour drive from both Albuquerque and El Paso.
- Day passes are required for all vehicles entering New Mexico State Parks, and campsite booking fees also apply. Visitors arriving on foot or by bike can enter for free.
- You can bring your own non-motorized boat or watercraft to Bottomless Lakes State Park, and pedal boat and paddleboard rentals are also available in high season.
- Facilities at Bottomless Lakes include a Visitor Center, restrooms and showers, picnic areas, and an RV dump station.
- There are accessible restrooms and campsites at Bottomless Lakes State Park.

We enjoyed our stay, the lake was incredible, especially in its perfectly glassy state in the morning light. But it was not the most private of campgrounds. We came in December and there were so few of us at the campground that it did feel relatively secluded but I imagine that’s very different at the height of camping season. There were a few spots in the 20s that border the lake and have a hedge on either side - pretty sweet spots, try to get them. The inner spots are just open to the campground. We did some great wild life spotting while we were in the park and saw white tailed deer, a highlight.

A great campground near Roswell. Be sure to check out the Roswell kitsch as well as the Roswell International UFO Museum and Research Center. There's an amazing contemporary art museum - The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art that is not to be missed!

This camp is 💯. Great place to spot up with amenities and explore natural features you're camping near. I would love to come back and spend more time in the swimming area, didn't even realize it existed until we were heading out!

This place is too cool! Both campgrounds have nice spots. The RV one has showers. Lea Lake is a great swimming hole that's 90 feet at it's deepest. Bring your water toys, sunscreen and a picnic.

I was passing through and stumbled upon this place. I can't wait to return and bring my camping gear. Several sites are quite secluded so you get extra privacy. The water is beautiful! Nearby Lea Lake has swimming, paddle board and peddle boat rentals.
