Peaceful Prairie Campsites consists of 200+ acres of prairie pasture bordering the south side of Scotts Bluff National Monument. Under the care of third generation steward, Lisa Betz-Marquez, the beautiful bluffs feature a stunning backdrop to a those seeking a private and peaceful experience, birding, wildlife-spotting, or an adventure-seeking hike. Rustic Tent sites (allowing cars, vans, rooftop tents, truck campers, and motorcycles, but not RVs or pull-behind trailers) are located directly on the prairie. The prairie is a fragile environment. To preserve its beauty and health, trailers and RVs must book the RV sites. We appreciate your cooperation. RV sites 50 amp electricity and a rustic experience on crushed concrete near our corral. You'll have foot access just steps from the prairie. All sites share access to delicious potable water, a clean porta potty, and a funky outdoor camp shower (with unheated water), as well as private foot access to hiking at various levels of challenge to the south side of our nation's Scotts Bluff National Monument. A small group of yearling cattle are at home on the prairie in summer months, and may share you the prairie tent area with campers in the months of May and June. Prairie guests have relished the feeling of having the place to themselves to enjoy the majesty of the landscape, the magic of our starry night skies and the soulful communion with the land. Lisa is the fourth generation of her family to live on Valley View Farm, located directly south of the prairie. Her family has been steward of these lands since 1925. Lisa is a member of a pioneer family. Ancestor, Martin Gering, came to the valley in 1887. As an early investor in the fledgling town, the town of Gering was named for him. Nestled in a gorgeous open area within our canyon, this exclusive site offers amenities perfect for a larger group of friends, a family gathering, a private, cozy hangout for two, or a solo retreat. The 3-tiered natural log amphitheater seating area built into the side of the canyon and large ceremonial fire pit surrounded by sand, is perfect for an evening under the stars. The separate kitchen fire pit invites more intimate conversation near the convenient picnic table. Firewood is included. (To protect our prairie ecosystem, please do not bring outside firewood). A super clean porta potty, delicious underground drinking water, and a funky outdoor shower is available nearby for all campers. Please note: If you would like to add a private porta potty or several, to this site for your event, this can be available as an extra with a week's advance notice. ARRIVAL TIME: April - June: 4 p.m. until 1/2 hour before dark.   July: 7 p.m. until 1/2 hour before dark. August: 6 pm until 1/2 hour before dark. Magic in the Cozy Canyon

Peaceful Prairie is a healing, magical place in a region I adore for its rough landscape. We ended up at a different campsite than originally booked, as Lisa called ahead to let us know we had the option to pick an unbooked site she thought we might enjoy more. She was right! Lisa is warm and welcoming, and you can tell she cares a lot about her land. The decor at this site is super cute. The canyon area is spacious, and the furniture very accomodating. It's sheltered, quiet and comfortable here, making it the ideal space for spiritual connection. You have great views of the changing sky and the South Bluff, but running up the hills on either side will afford you a spectacular vista and a phone signal if needed. There is a little bit of shade in the morning and evening but you do need to be prepared for harsh sun and winds. The water spigot, porta potty and shower are a short walk away, and while the shower is freezing even in midday heat, these amenities feel luxurious if you usually camp in the backcountry. The porta potty is regularly maintained and wasn't unpleasant at all to use. This place is a hidden treasure for naturalists as well. Hiking around the campsite, close to the bluff, or just sitting and observing the plant and animal life was delightful even amidst the severe drought plaguing this area. You'll see rabbits, birds, and maybe even a camel spider! We enjoyed cataloguing drought-resistant, sometimes fragrant plants new to our growing mental herbarium.

Peaceful Prairie lived up to its name and Lisa was a wonderful host. My highlight was hiking over to the Bluff and meditating with the strong wind, prairie birds, and beautiful sky. Bonus that I could hike right from my campsite. Very interesting learning that Lisa is helping to restore the native Prairie. She is showing the land lots of love.

This is a fantastic site with incredible views of the bluffs and the surrounding land. Lisa is an excellent host. Communicated proactively and made us feel taken care of. The canyon site had some shelter from the wind, which was good because of the storms that rolled through. We loved watching the storms come in and then leave. Two nights in a row we had incredible, full rainbows. We would absolutely come back.

Absolutely loved staying here. The property was beautiful and the view was absolutely unbelievable. Lisa was very accommodating and communicative. We drove across the whole state on our trip, and staying here and hiking around the property in the morning was definitely one of the top highlights of the trip. I can't imagine experiencing Scottsbluff any other way.

The view here is exactly as advertised and truly cannot be beat. A few things detracted from our stay. 1) not quite enough information about rattlesnakes provided in the description (yes, we did our own reading about the area and were prepared to be vigilant) and 2) the shower wasn't operational. Be prepared for some really incredible wind if you're in a tent. Lisa was communicative and kind so overall this was a good experience, and waking up to that view ... Wow.

My dog and I had a great time! We were the only ones on the land that night so I hung out in the canyon camp site (where there was shade) for a bit before setting up on the prairie. The water from the hose is delicious and the outhouse smells surprisingly good. Lisa is so kind and you can tell how much she loves the land!

This was the best site I've ever camped at and can't recommend it enough! You're all to yourself but still nearby other sites. The town, as well as Scottsbluff NM and Chimney Rock, are close by. Lisa was an excellent host, wish we could've talked longer! Make sure you're well prepared for the weather...the wind swept through the canyon just right and snapped our tent. Will definitely look for this place again the next time I come out!

This land is gorgeous and we felt so lucky to camp there. We decided to camp last minute on our cross country road trip back home to Idaho and it happened to be my birthday. The sunset was incredible and the prairie was gorgeous. Be prepared for the wind!

This was a quiet and peaceful campground with stunning scenery. Lisa was very helpful, providing detailed directions to the campsite. It was a short drive into Gering and Scott’s Bluff Monument. This was a wonderful place to stay that is off the beaten path.

Such beautiful land! We loved walking through the prairie to the bluffs. Lisa was extremely kind and we enjoyed learning about the history of her land. Would definitely stay again!

Rustic place, no glamping here. Quiet and a bit remote. Walking distance to Scotts Bluff National Monument. Lisa is a super friendly host. She provided detailed instructions to the campsite.

the view is spectacular in all directions. although you are close to a public road it is so seldom traveled its not a problem. the outhouse was clean. lots of birds.

Wow, it was raining HARD when we were driving towards the Peaceful Prairie location and the road condition concerned Lisa. She contacted us right away about getting into our spot and settled. Through the hip camp site/app and LIsa's guidance, we found our spot just fine and had a nice evening in the drizzle. Woke up to some beautiful fog and singing birds. The road does get a little greasy with that kind of rain, but we did fine.

Staying in my van at Lisa’s was perfect! The spot was quiet and private, with absolutely stunning views of Scott’s Bluff NM, made even more magical by the gorgeous sunset. Super convenient access to water, bathroom, and trash. Lisa was very kind and responsive, greeted me on arrival, and the site was really easy to find.

This site has a lot of potential. One thing that spoiled it for us was that we were close to a camper that was already there and they had 2 yappy dogs which constantly barked the whole time we were there (except at night thankfully). The sunset was beautiful but sadly the other camper blocked it from our campsite. There would have been a beautiful view into the valley but there was a large bush and an old metal building blocking the view. The porta potty was clean and the motion sensor light inside was a nice touch for any nighttime usage. We didn't use the shower but it was an interesting setup. We definitely would have used it if it had hot water. The host was very friendly and responsive. We also enjoyed interacting with the cows on the property!
