IT'S PEACH SEASON!!!!, LOADS OF PRODUCE ON FARM FOR CAMPERS TO PICK AND EAT,  HOMEMADE CANNED GOODS AND BLUE EGGS, MEALS ALSO AVAILABLE,

MORNING COFFEE OR TEA ON ME :)

Victorian Summer Kitchen Curiosity, circa 1890, is located on small, organic Cloud Nine Farm among the beautiful Orchard, Dairy and Mennonite country of Western Maryland.

Glorious sunrises over the Catoctin Mts and a great 360 vista of the surrounding Farmlands and Orchards. Close to the Appalachian trail and several State Parks, great biking . Awesome area. We DO have Wifi in all buildings                                                                              THIS IS REAL FARM COUNTRY (sights, sounds and smells)

Fresh local produce available either on our Farm or at innumerable Orchard stands throughout the year. This includes milk and ice cream  :) , Apples, Peaches, Plums, Cherries, Strawberries, and all types of veggies and meats.

The summer kitchen and its loft are outfitted as they would have been in the Victorian times, with implements for cooking, canning, candle making, herb and plant processing, braided rug making. etc.  Object being to perk your curiosity and to reflect on another time in history, when practically every farm and homestead were self sufficient.

Also, part of the stable is set up as a eating area, and the barn and hayloft as a hands on Farm museum to explore. Old fashioned games and rope swings and Arts and Crafts for additional fun. The Barn is available for a glamping spot as well (see other listings)

Our Mennonite neighbors milk 120 cows twice a day, and in the summertime, the cows come up to our back fence.  This area is still very much Agrarian, with hundreds of Farms still being worked, it is a wonderful thing to see, experience and appreciate.

I took my mom here for Mother’s Day weekend and we both loved it! Staying at Tam’s was like staying at an old friend’s place. She’s incredibly welcoming and friendly. Tam’s only been at this property for about a year and a half and has already poured so much love into restoring and caring for the place. Her passion for American history, especially agrarian culture, is evident in her hospitality, her desire to keep the space & decorations original and authentic, and her knowledge about tools, arts & crafts, gardening, etc.

The summer kitchen is an original late 1800’s building. There are still a few things that are not restored yet, but no big deal. It’s not meant to be a modern tiny house or anything, so there’s dust and patina. As long as you go in with the expectation that it’s an experience like going back in time, then you won’t be disappointed. However, if you are a bigger/taller person, you might have some trouble climbing the stairs into the loft as the stairs are also original and the people back then were much smaller. The lofted space is also open with no guard rails, so not recommended for young kids that run around. She’ll have other listings that are better for families.

Tam’s property and the orchards behind it are great places to go for a nice half-mile walk through apple & pear trees. There’s also nice places to sit around a fire. Her dog Willow, the sweetest, smartest German Shepard, can keep you company. There’s also a ton to do around the area including wineries, orchards, and creameries.

We can’t wait for Tam to expand her Hip Camp experiences and come back for one of her workshops or canning or rug-braiding in the future!

Per Polina's helpful suggestion, I am putting up a guard rail in the loft. The Summer Kitchen has movable mattresses, so it is not necessary to sleep in the loft, ppl can sleep on the ground level if they prefer. The object is to keep things original, so you can see things as they were in 1890. This was the kitchen for cooking in summer, to avoid heating up the main house, and to reduce the risk of fire in the main house.

Tam has a lovely property, and she is a lovely host. Her property is ideally situated among rolling farmland, and her kitchen cottage is a romantic throwback to the days of yore. Tam has carefully maintained her property in keeping with the era of its construction. She has outfitted her kitchen cottage into a living museum full of period furnishings and kitchen items. She has stocked the cottage with books about the life and times of her property, and she provides thoughtful touches for her guests, including a powerful pair of binoculars with which to see the many colorful birds on her property. (She'll be happy to identify them for you too!) While visiting Tam with my husband and 9-year-old boy, she took time to show us her garden, give my son a ride on her tractor, and even whip us up a yummy breakfast over her fire pit on our last day. There is plenty to do in the area, for both adults and kids. While there, we rented a kayak for some exploring, visited a neighborhood dairy farm for ice cream, and hiked to the gorgeous Catoctin Falls. Antietam Battlefield is also a short drive away, In Smithsville, we ate at the Dixie Café and Wolfe Inn -- both very affordable and full of local flavor. I highly recommend a stay at Tam's farm. We'll be coming back for sure.

The moment I booked I imprinted on Tamara. We kept in frequent contact and she included the best way finding techniques and local knowledge of the grounds and the area. Often you see something and it doesn’t exceed your expectations and memory palace of what your weekend should be. It felt as though I had arrived at a place in another century was home. We spent the night sitting around the fire talking and baring our souls. You may find time to stroll the grounds by yourself or try to explore the small bedroom town but what’s the point when you have an incredibly worldly and thoughtful host with the most gentle giant dog that paces outside your window. It’s a fairytale. Next day we walked around and every place unearthed had a story.

I brought my two daughters for an overnight and we were charmed by the Summer Kitchen. Tamara was a wonderful host, so full of knowledge about farm life and the local area. We loved cooking over the fire, hanging out in the yard and house with Tamara and her wonderful dog and going to the local creamery. Luckily it’s not far for us, so we will be back.

Lovely gardens. View of the house from cooking over the fire. View from the fire pit.Flowers in a window box.

Tam is a very welcoming host and we spent our time here learning about all the things she is growing in her garden, feeding chickens and sitting by the fire watching the lightening bugs come out. Accommodation is rustic but definitely one of a kind.

The property was even nicer than expected. Both the exterior and interior of each part - barn, cabin, house are all tastefully decorated. I simply enjoyed walking around the property and relaxing at each little corner, from the tree swing to the garden. We were a bit worried about the heat initially, but massive trees provide nice cover in a number of spots around the property. As for the tools and plants you see, Tam is a wealth of knowledge.
